what makes people join social sites?

human beings get lonely inspite of having relations and friends

they look for a forum where they can express themselves freely and without inhibitions

they feel recognised when when their posts are appreciated. many in this forum missed the like feature at tamil brahmins.com when it was removed

at the same time many would like to ..retain their anonymity for various reasons.

sharing views and opinions make many discover friends from various walks of life one can relate to.

after a few months at a site we get to know how the persons who frequently post respond to various events

we gel only with a few and ignore others.

there is a process of selection depending on what people stand for.

at times we start missing some if they do not post for a few days.

sometimes I amaze at the info ,, knowledge ,scholarship, talents of many in this forum

I have gained more than I have contributed in terms of post.

whenever I have posed any issue , the opinions that emerge give the different points of view and I emerge a little wiser.

when I have tried spreading some negative views on some subjects, I see interesting reactions. yet there is a certain dignity and reproach in the posts pulling up errant members

topics like religion , rituals , politics are red rags likely to raise violent reactions. humour and joke are excellent. borderline sometimes.

all in all interesting experience .What do you think?

I used to be on Facebook but I closed that account cos I felt I did not want to reconnect with everyone I knew in the past cos and also I somehow attract weirdos!LOL

TB forum is interesting cos its like a good masala movie...talk about caste, religion and God and everyone is up in arms fighting Tamil Movie Ishtyle!LOL

Then we can write even some nonsense and the thread can actually drag on and on.

Some comic relief is also there.

Relationships also change in forum..some friends become frenemies and then enemies too...

then we also get many friends invite from people who never posted in Forum even 1 post..but for fun sake I accept every friends invite!

Then you can check who visited your profile page too.

Throw in some unconventional posts and opinions and some members start wishing the Kalki Avatar would descend soon!LOL

When I want to get in touch with my 'thinking side" I visit Vikrama Ji's Rigveda thread..when I want to cause trouble I try to make PJ sir angry and he will respond! ha ha ha.

So Forum is a fun filled place where we can exchange many opinions just for fun sake.

Best is not to ignore anyone...we can learn something from anyone.

What is the purpose and logic of ending a sentence with LOL? It is like loud background music on most scenes in TV.

When I was in search of some sloka, I came across this Forum.

It is interesting from day one. I observe a lot by going through the postings of seniors.

I found this Forum as a ‘Kadambam’ or ‘Aviyal’ with variety. You have music, religion, spirituality, politics, Tamil Kavithaigal, etc

It used to be very exciting to learn lot of new things every day and to go through postings on serious debates on sensitive subjects. I love the exchange of thoughts, lively debate and sharing of information, etc

I do admire at the contributions of some of the veterans. But every revered Member is unique and has his/her own style of presentation and there is something to learn from each IMO.

Have attended two get-togethers, earned few friends and well-wishers.

Since I believe ‘Life is a process of learning’, I keep learning every day.

Pranams to all.

as regards facebook , I come across too many of my friends ad relations. it is embarrassing sometimes when children read

our loose and flippant remarks. now I am a silent spectator on facebook.only I keep track of what my relations are upto.

I stopped posting photos.

I never was a private person to this extent earlier .

I did not know caste was such a serious issue in south .the extreme feelings that religion and God worship evoke in this

forum sometimes amaze me. I was forced to become sensitive to extreme feelings of people on these issues. the other

day ,I found a person I thought was a liberal was hurt by a comment on hindu swami. Politics has also the same effect

on members. Now The minute somebody feels hurt I immediately withdraw the post.

we are slowly losing our capacity to laugh at ourself.

I find the academics in this forum are the most sensitive and engage strongly those who do not buy their views . they

also lodge complaints if they are lampooned. for them , others have only the right to agree with them. I promptly

disengage from them.

what surprises me most that out of thousands of members only a few post regularly. others are like the indian voter

. once in blue moon make an appearance

most join the forum with express interest in slokas and rituals. later that becomes least of ther concerns.

the forum has many members who are senior in age and when that not recognised hell breaks loose

one thing that I do not understand . why do senior citizen pose that they are the most deprived section of society and

lament about their status or ungrateful kids or economic or health issues. they seem to have written themselves off and

would like others to take care of them. if when they are engaged in this forum , they feel happy and relieved that there

are others facing similar issues and are happy

VB

The enlightenment derived out of the contributions made by senior members has made me strong in my mind particularly certain fields such as religion, sociology etc. If time permits, I used to go through some common interesting postings by members. Gradually it became a war of words and thoughts some time leads to cold-war. Frankly speaking I am not familiar with lot of words. This made me to learn more though not required at this stage but I feel learning keeps me in good stead at all times and feel me younger irrespective of the topics. Actually I don’t have all round knowledge hence I may not post a reply whether I accept it or not. The scintillating experience while reading the topics presented by veterans like PJ, Tbs, Marbus,Prasad1, Sarang, Renuka, Rajiram, Krish44, VB and the spreading the service of Mahaswami of Kanchi to the human society by Mr.Nannilam Balasubramanian, really a special, would stand for ever in the minds of the members. Kudos to every contributor.

Krish Sir

Nice OP

I was an active member in Yahoo answers before joining here.

Trolls had their say in most of the debates especially in Religious matter, spoiling the learning process.
A member using many ID is very common in Yahoo.

Here also some members used many ID and the Administrator took a strong step too weed them out.

After joining here, I have leant many things, got friendship with many, even though I did not see any of them personally.

All my contributions here are based on some source, and I try to put only Positive threads.

There were members like London Swaminathan who had contributed many interesting articles which enriched this site.

Krish Sir, you are one of the Best in this Site, you are doing extremely well.

Like you there are very many great members whose interactions with me is very useful.

May be a caution to say 'This is NOT serious'!

For a change, Naina Sir posted the actual LOL noise, once! :)
