Widows are not immigrants. The responsibility of supporting them, and rehabilitating them must be shared by the family, community, state government and the centre.
1. If a member of the family, say, a parent is thrown out after appropriating property, legal redressal is available, but time consuming and costly. Widows are in a more vulnerable position. Sending them to vrundavan is not a solution and no sane individual will buy it.
2. All states have private and govt controlled homes for destitute and abandoned women, but many are hell on earth, and ngos are the real beneficiaries.
3. There are many temple towns and temple villages, which can accommodate widows who specifically want to live near temples and engage in temple related services - singing, bhajans and cleaning/kolam decoration etc. The temples are under govt control, and only a small part of the revenue collected from temples is utilised for temple related activities. NCW's (National commission for women} activities are sporadic and selective - visiting rape victims and shouting for reforms and action for sometime, and then going silent. They have shown no interest on force begging-prostitution or such cases of vrundavan widows and physically abused women.
Gurumurthy has rightly said - dharma prevents crime, laws only punish crime. A dharmic village panchayat can quickly decide and render justice in such cases because the whole village knows who is the culprit.
