Woman CAN keep a secret!

In the epic Mahabharat, after the death of Karna, Kunthi revealed the secret of his birth to the

Pandavas. Yudhisthira was very much upset and so he cursed all women that henceforth they

would not be able to keep a secret!

It is true that most of the women are interested in gossips and can not keep a secret. But imho,

a woman CAN keep a secret, if it is something about herself or her dear ones. Please share your

views, dear friends! :)

my mom could hold secrets and respect those that were told her. so she ended up as the confidant of perhaps a hundred or more people in her lifetime.

but for my in - laws, large family themselvs, also descendents of family, there are no secrets. you tell one something about another sibling, and enough to create furore, as words get distorted and misrepresented as it passes over each mouth.

i have found, generally, that smaller the family, less the gossip and sibling fights. atleast i think so.

Dear Srimathi RR Ji,

IMHO, of course a woman CAN keep a secret - from men!

Women are more social than men, in my observation. This leads, in my opinion, self validating deep friendships with other like minded women. It is my observation too that all thoughts under the Sun, without any filters are shared among these!

Men are a bit different. 'All men live in quiet desperation' said Thoreau, the great American poet. And I can personally attest to this to be true. :)

So, what Yudishtra said was the Truth and stated the obvious. Not a curse, in my opinion.

Raji Madam

The life of a woman seems synonymous with the life of a secret. What goes on inside a girl's mind usually fails to agree with her heart, leading her to hide a few things, not because she's afraid, but because she loves those things in her personal space.

Read more here:5 Things women always hide from men - Times Of India

Always women are a mystery and they can hold their personal secrets till last!!

Facts become secrets ONLY
when they are withheld from others.

A secret automatically means something
kept away from prying eyes and ears.

Otherwise it is renamed as gossip.

Do you know who keeps a secret best???

Surprisingly it is the children...!!!

Threatened or coaxed to keep silent.
It becomes very useful for molesters.

Thanks for your views Kunjuppu Sir.

1. I am also a similar lady in our family and if something is NOT to be broadcast I keep :tape: .

2. But sometimes the secret will be 'oorarindha ragasiyam'!!

3. I think it is the mind set of a person and not the size of the family! :)

........ IMHO, of course a woman CAN keep a secret - from men! ..
Dear K R S Sir,

You have missed the main point.

My observation is: Women can keep secrets IFF they are about themselves or their dear ones.

P.S: IFF = if and only if. :)

Dear Sis,

Suppose a woman or her dear one has some serious illness she would try to keep it a secret.

When there is financial crisis in the family, the lady would keep it a secret, as far as possible!

Generally children keep secrets from the scolding / beating parents! Even if some harm is done

to them, they do not confide in parents, because of fear! :whip:

In the Tamil movies, there are women characters who keep secrets. A similar one to the story of Karna is shown in

the super hit movie 'ThaLapathi'. I saw one more yesterday - '
Charulatha', in which a Siamese twin sister acts like

the one who dies when separated by an operation at the age of 20 and marries the dead sister's lover!

Woman can keep secrets if that secret is about themselves or about the person they love or have high regard for or even about close friends...so it's not true that women can not keep secrets.

Dear Renu,

Thanks for agreeing to my OP! :)
Now I am waiting for Dr. Narayani to give her views. :ranger:

Yudhishtra's curse is true at least for one woman - me!

My life is an open book as anyone can see in the forum.

Secrets are dead weights and are best avoided

so as to remain lighthearted but not light headed! :)

Double standards everywhere...!!!

one's very own secrets...:tape:.........:spy:

other people's secrets....:director:.....:gossip:

Oh, Sorry Srimathi RR Ji.

Did not realize that this was a Quiz, with the right answer already given in the question.

I thought this was to elicit opinions :).

Sorry, won't do it again!

Does THIS imply that in every quiz

the right answer / the expected answer

lies concealed in the question???

Poor Yudhisthira!! His curse does not have 100% effect!! :(

Exactly!

When I read Mahabharat that is what I thought..poor Yudhisthira...he has no idea how much we women can keep secrets.

Some women are so good at keeping secrets that if they had a multiple personality disorder even Ms Jekyl wont tell Ms Hyde!LOL

By NOW Dr. C.N will be knowing what answer is expected of her.
I could read her mind by the likes she has given me! :becky:

P.S: It is easy to find out who has clicked the like, though it is not visible in the threads! :spy:

So I can't keep it a secret!

Dear K R S Sir,

Of course, I want my friends to share their views. I put a light bulb along with the title of the thread

to show that I give my statement!

I like the way you have described my Quiz! :D
