In my post I did say that what others do does not really matter too.

I am not looking for justification here. We cant say others do it so its ok if we do it too.

Since when did others become a yardstick for Indians?

Then why on earth did Adi Shankara put an end to the human sacrifice of the Bhairava cult?

So Adi S did not appreciate local culture I guess.

Lord Rama need not have gone after Ravan for kidnapping Seeta..He should have respected Ravan's appetite for females.

So you see we HAVE to respect Local Culture!

Sit back and enjoy!

Why complain that Culture is on the decline..we have to respect the new invading western culture!

Dont complain about intercaste marriage..if people can marry dogs at least be happy our children married a human!....respect the new culture!LOL

Now what about Gotra change in a non human and human marriage?

I really wonder??LOL

Dear Renu,

Your imagination runs riot! This girl will not bear a 'hybrid child' by this stupid marriage with a real dog!
She will marry a man later on, in her life. So relax! :couch2:

dear RR ji,

So you feel that its a stupid marriage!LOL

Well ..I felt the marriage was an act of being misinformed!

Its not my imagination running wild but gotra of a female is supposed to change during the act of marriage and not after giving birth to an offspring..so here 1st she has Canine Gotra..then it has to be changed to a human gotra after she marries a human male...I guess someone will then ask her to do some pariharams for that.

BTW if the dog dies..does she become a widow?

You see RR ji..all these are important becos its a marriage..we have to respect Local Culture..We cant say its stupid!LOL

Dear Renu,

1. I never said it was a good marriage. In fact I did not use the word wedding because of the reason I had already written

in our forum. Hope you remember that!

2. Nothing misinformed. It is a belief of some uncivilized people!

3. Gotra is only for a few castes, I guess! Does that female have a gotra for herself? :noidea:

OK! Even if she becomes 'canine gotra', she will automatically take her human husband's gotra later on!

I remember someone was trying to change the gotra of a widowed lady he married and it was told by members that she will

take the new husband's gotra automatically, after the wedding!

4. I think so! But widow remarriages DO happen! :D

5. Unless some Guru (from our forum?!!) is respected (!!) by those set of people who got the girl married to a dog, it is not

possible to change their custom and tradition! So better :tape:

A female has a Gotra, Renu! Till her wedding her father's and after the wedding her husband's! So...She HAS!! :)

3. yes...someone might actually start a thread here asking about it in the future!LOL

You have already asked in this thread itself!

4. BTW how did the dog go around the fire or did the dog tie the mangalsutra(if this community had the mangalsutra)
We don't have any idea of the rituals during such a wedding. We actually need one upload of this event on youtube! :ranger:

5. The priest of the area should educate the community.

May be, the priest of that area told this parihAram! :dizzy:

Dear RR ji,

Black are my answers.

Oh! You want to be polite to such people?

Why use the term such people? They are also Hindus and humans. We dont lose anything being polite..if it works! If we want to help someone we first need to be polite to them.If we are hostile they too will be hostile.
BTW by calling them "such people" that shows that one feels they are lesser than others..this could explain the apathy as 'we bother'

Ever spoken to a Christian Preacher..they maintain politeness till the end even though they have an ulterior motive.

A female has a Gotra, Renu! Till her wedding her father's and after the wedding her husband's! So...She HAS!! :)

If something that is subject to change does not pass the test of time..that shows it was false to start with..false is the same as absent.

May be, the priest of that area told this parihAram! :dizzy:

Then the priest too needs to be educated!LOL

Dear Renu,

I have tried a few times to be polite to such people right from my childhood.

And........ never did they respond in a polite manner. It is my experience.

I think I wrote earlier in forum but worth repeating for the sake of new members.

I was coming home for a holiday travelling by bus when I was a teenager. I sat near some sc / st female who might not have

had a bath for weeks. Since my parents had taught about toleration, I did so. Then one old lady, equally stinking, boarded the

bus and then I politely offered my seat to her. She almost pounced at me saying, 'nee pAppAththip puLLa. kaNdava kitteyum

ukkaruva. nAn appadi illa!' She could find the caste of the female just by a glance! How is that?

This is just a sample.

P.S: In most of the cases, 'kulaththaLavE Agum guNam' (Quote from avvaiyAr's 'moodhurai') is very true!

Dear RR ji,

You see in the story above you identified 2 people:

1)"Such people"

2)A ST/SC

The woman who did not want to sit near the other lady also identified 2 people:

1) A TB

2) A ST/SC

So both of you were gifted to identify anyone at one glance!LOL

........ So both of you were gifted to identify anyone at one glance!LOL
Dear Renu,

My wits should be at least equal to that old female, right? :boink:

But, I can't say equal because she could identify the subsect in that ST/SC and knew that

she was in a higher level whereas, I could not find it out! :(

Dear Renu,

Sometimes I get whatever I wish, very soon! :)

This evening a TV channel telecast the dog-girl wedding.

1. Many men were dancing with swords and drums.

2. The smiling bride came out well dressed and sat on the place of marriage!

3. The decorated dog groom was brought in a car and made to sit near the bride.

4. A priest was doing the rituals with concentration.

5. The thirumAngalyam was kept on the forelegs of the groom and tied around the bride's neck, by a female!

6. The groom, not aware of the happenings, fell asleep!

Watch the video here:

P.S: The girl says that she is not happy by this marriage but believes that the evil spell on her will be transferred to the dog!

Poor creature!! :tsk:

Poor creature is actually very cute ! I dont think anyone seem to mistreat him

Video shows everyone having a fun time and the cute dog taking a nice nap ..

I hope the teen girl ends up getting happily married (I mean to a man of her dreams)- let us offer our mental blessings to the teen girl who had to undergo this ritual.

Should we treat it as a freak show?
I don’t think it speaks particularly well of our culture that we still enjoy staring at the weird, the ugly, the unusual or the disgusting. Freak shows are symptoms of a deep human weakness.

There is another twist to this. The video may be fake or stage managed because - the girl is fair and is quite unlike her parents; her language and diction is more gentile and appears rehearsed; people around her are dressed differently and behave differently; hosted by barcraft-tv which specializes in sensational video.
Will not be surprised if a hindu loather financed the whole deal for own promotion and eventual recognition from channels like ndtv and timesnow.

Interesting observation. The video is well edited from segments each of which are well taken.
It is more likely than not that it is staged. There is a dog fight to come up with sensational stories.

Regardless, I do not understand some of the intolerant comments. In India we have temple for live rats. We have swamis who create things out of thin air . There will always be a good number of followers for any idea for any ritual or for any swamis in India.

The swamis are more dangerous in my view because they can get away with anything. One well known swami is known to indulge in his gay activities with young boys taking advantage of them using his god status in their minds much like some of the priests of Catholics faith that the new Pope has strongly come out against.

Most people tend to respect and even accept other traditions if they are based on harmless beliefs even if they are outlandish.

The most harmful aspect of this story is the notion that a young girl is cursed.

A new sensational story now could be how such stories are routinely manufactured.

Tradition or culture, call it by any other, these sort of practices make us look primitive and stand out in stark contrast to the rest of our "Vedic" beliefs.

I wonder why there is no culture where they marry snakes, lions or lizards... Maybe availability? Or perhaps these animals (dogs, pigs, donkeys, etc) have some mysterious powers that the acharyas - sankara, ramanuja & madhva - overlooked during their analysis of the scriptures?

Ok I get that. I support that we should not support these kind of practice.

Now what are you saying? Are you contradicting your previous paragraph? Are you making fun of our acharyas?

Let us give one message. Let us get out of darkness.

"Aum Asato mā sad gamaya
Tamaso mā jyotir gamaya
Mṛtyormā amṛtam gamaya
Aum śānti śānti śāntiḥ " (Bṛhadāraṇyaka Upaniṣad 1.3.28)

Sri Auh

I usually look forward to reading your comments even if I may or may not agree !

Having said that let me also say that "சும்மா மொட்ட தலைக்கும் மொழங்காலுக்கும் முடிச்சு போடக்கூடாது..." i

When one has genuine freedom of expression all kinds of ideas and rituals will surface in a society . All religions including many under Hinduism umbrella deal with strange beliefs. For the believer they may not seem strange.

But the teachings of Sri Sankara starts only after religious boundaries stop. I assume same may be true for other Acharyas.

There are many emotional slokas 'dripping with Bhakti' attributed to Sri Sankara. It does not matter if that attribution is true or not because those do not contradict any of his commentaries. He never described anything outlandish in his commentaries.

Knowledge parts of Vedic teaching is a total break-away and 180 degrees turn from all the ritualistic aspects of vedas (and for a very good reason - possibly a different topic). However some Hindu rituals are based on Mantras of the vedic vision expounded in the knowledge segments.

But today most people do not know or care to know the connection. Those in the profession of priests do not know as well and often make something up when asked for an explanation.

Snakes are worshipped in pits in certain parts of India. Live rats have a temple (Karni Mata Temple - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
Our system of beliefs do not make us look anymore primitive than the beliefs described in the biblical religions. Many of those beliefs tend to be harmful too.

In short I do not agree with your conclusions.

My take is "let us live and let live" provided someone's beliefs do not cause major harm to others.

Shri tks,

Where does the line gets drawn , and by whom or what? Certainly not people like us but the parties involved. "Live and let live"? Dear sir, you do have a sense of dark humour (no offense intended). The quoted phrase indicates understanding and acceptance, with all parties concerned willing to undergo the act. Not forced rituals, for fear of society, superstition or simply, a case of an iron fisted father.

Since superstition and fear ties up the individual from head to toe, I guess, the mudicchu is right on intentions...

Regards & cheers :-)

Dear RR ji,

I had a feedback from Hindu Jagruti Samaj..they thanked me for my email complaining to them about this Dog Human marriage and they told me they will look into it.

Anyway at least they acknowledged my email.
