REALLY!!!!!!!

With women being allowed to worship in the inner sanctum of the Shani Shingnapur temple in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district, the Shankaracharya of Dwaraka-Sharda Peeth Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati on Monday said that this would result in increase of rape incidents. “Women entered Shani temple’s inner sanctum. The women are worshipping Shani in the temple. By doing so, Shani’s eyes would fall on women and this would result in increase of rape incidents,” Swaroopanand Saraswati told ANI. Bowing to the Bombay High Court order, the temple trust had last week broke the 400 years tradition and announced that both men and women will henceforth be allowed to enter the inner sanctum and offer their prayers. The Bhumata Brigade cadres led by Trupti Desai offered prayers at the sanctum sanctorum of the temple following the decision.

As one who do not know much about the tradition or practices of this temple I do not want to ecpress my opinion on the issue. But the insensitive comments by a learnered person is surprising.
No God will punish its own devotee for worshiping.

BTW Shani is Planet Saturn.

Shani Bhagawan is up in space and surely as planet it does exert some effect in the Universe cos everything exists for a purpose.

So how come the eyes of Saturn only falls on a woman if she enters a temple and not while she is walking around outside anywhere else.

Are the eyes of Saturn only actively activated in a temple and Saturn does not have a cosmic effect from space?

If the entry of woman into a Shani temple would cause increase in the incidence of rape....would that mean Saturn increases the sex drive of males in the world each time a woman enters a Shani temple?

This would make most Pharma companies shut down..Viagra not needed!

May be for this, you have to see the conjunction of Mars with Saturn.

Hey, but is there a separate Mars temple?

Sir, punishment comes, only from the middleman.

The person in question has angered not only women but also Sai devotees...Let us leave him alone..We have nothing to do with him!

He is a leader of a Mutt. There are crores of Hindus following him. No other Hindu leader has condemned it. Some of the leaders are tacitly supporting this stand. It should be condemned or ridiculed.

Ignorant must taught a lesson.

Rahiman karue mukh ko chahiyat eehi sazaye

"To cure a bitter cucumber,we cut its head off and rub in salt. Says Rahim to cure a bitter mouth we should apply the same remedy"

It is quite hard to fathom the logic used by the religious leader that by worshipping Shani in the temple, it will bring them ill-luck. Shouldn’t we use the same logic for men as well? As if women have had it so good in the past that this advice was needed.

According to available data, crime against women has more than doubled in the past decade with a crime being reported every two minutes in the country. Majority of them are done by husbands and relatives at the rate of 10 every hour. Going by the Shankaracharya’s valued statement, this could mean that women should brace themselves for crimes to quadruple against them in the years to come.
This is not the first time that the Shankaracharya has made such a controversial remark. He has been critical of Sai Baba at Shirdi as well saying he is not worthy of being worshipped, and zeroed on it as the real reason for drought in the Maharashtra. Anyone who can bring his attention to the weak monsoon for the past two years would be doing a good deed for the nation. The religious leader was also in the limelight for slapping a journalist who asked him a question on Narendra Modi’s prospects of becoming Prime Minister in the run up to the 2014 general election. So much for preaching peace and harmony to others!
Just last year, Sunni cleric Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musliar had said that women are only, “fit only to deliver children”. With his latest remarks, the Shankaracharya has joined a select league of religious leaders who will be remembered more for their warped sense of gender equality rather than religious beliefs.

Statements like Rape will increase if women enter a Shani Bhagawan temple would be fodder to Non Hindu entities who will further degrade Hindu deities by saying that Hindu Gods condone rape.

I can understand now how over the years so many sans logic superstition came into existence...its merely word of Man and NOT word of God.

Does stupidity have party affiliations, or does it have exclusivity. I have seen stupid comments made by BJP, RSS, JD, AAM, Congress and others. Similarly it is nor exclusive to Hindus, I have seen stupid comment made by Muslims, Christians, Sikhs and others. Where ever we see stupidity we must correct it.

Swami Swaroopananda Saraswathi is a freedom fighter, went to jail in 1942.
He was the President of Ram Rajya Parishad after its founder Swami Karapatri Maharaj.
He is the Sankaracharya of two Sankar Mutts, Joshi Mutt and Dwaraka Peetam in Gujarat. He has a good following in North India.
His statements had drawn criticism in the past also.

I liked Sri S. Gurumurthy's comments on this!

S Gurumurthy ‏@sgurumurthy Hindus accept most unacceptable ways of worship. One a right to worship God as one pleases. A true Hindu cannot criticise another's worship

Vganeji,
There is a difference in PUBLIC and PRIVATE worship. What Gurumurthy said was foe private worship. One can worship God in the privacy of their house in NUDE, but decorum requires cloths (Except for Nagas). There are multiple things we do in private that is not acceptable in public.

True. But if you make an impartial observations of the clippings or articles you reproduced in this forum, one would find that there is an overwhelming reportage of stupid utterances by BJP and RSS almost to the exclusion of other political parties as also the stupidity exhibited by Hindus while ignoring the same by other religionists.

I think our limited human knowledge cannot be made the basis of judging some of the practices related to our religion. For example, before the Paravur firecrackers tragedy which has killed more than 100 people in seconds, it is reported that a "Devaprasnam" was conducted by the temple management and the astrologer who conducted it (from a place near Kollam) had observed that the Devi (Bhadrakaali) of the temple is highly dissatisfied on various grounds such as bad management, building houses very near to the temple, and so on and since the Devi has become an "Ugramoorthi" it does not forebode anything good for the temple management or even the area of influence of the temple. The astrologer suggested several propitiatory measures for bringing the Devi back into her "sowmya" nature. The temple management, however, decided to conduct the fireworks event, even before completing all those parihaarams and checking up whether everything was OK by means of a new Devaprasnam, etc.

Another instance I know well is of a small temple managed by Tabras only. A Devaprasnam held some ten years or so ago brought out many negatives, of which one was that the whole temple has been polluted by the constant and ever-increasing visits of women with menstrual untouchability, that the godhead is finding it difficult to be present in the temple itself and that if this is not put a stop to, then every month there should be a "Shuddhi Kalasa" (which meant a good amount of expenditure). The temple management did perform the Shuddhi Kalasa for a few months diligently, but discontinued it later on. The President of the Temple Committee was afflicted by a number of tragedies, became a pauper practically and had to flee to another city to spend his last few days with his son who had no love lost for him.

I, therefore, feel that what the Shankaracharya said may be correct, in some ways.

By the way, the visible planet saturn has no identicality with the Shani (Shani Bhagavaan) concept in astrology, just as Rahu & Kethu have no visible planets in the solar system, nor is the planet Surya of astrology, a planet as per astronomy.

With all due respects sir, I think the prasnams are kind of a impartial train of thoughts that come involuntarily from a frenzied state. It is a probability game. I too have heard about the infalliability of such prasnams from friends and colleagues but in practice none worked when it came to our family. I have a long experience of seeing various astrologers, mystics and maandhrigargal (accompanied my father) and while all of them had great fame, none could move a splinter in our matters.

does it not seem strange for a God to be concerned with crowded streets, pollution etc when she could have willed it to be otherwise?

It is okay to give lectures on equality of genders, to make fun of some Godman who, with foot in mouth, speaks without restraint, to turn upside down every established religious practice, apply the modern political logic to every religious practice etc., etc.,

But these raise the following fundamental questions:

1. Can the judiciary of the country interpret vedas? Are they qualified to do that? This question is important because tomorrow someone may file a PIL suit questioning the practice of man tying the thali/mangal sutra around a woman's neck and may demand that it should be the other way round. Because of centuries of oppression in the form of making women carry this hanging contraption around their neck like a dog carries its collar, womanhood has been done great injustice. So by way of compensation women should tie the thali around men's neck.

And the judiciary sitting in judgment will have to agree because logically and factually what is said is true.

2. If judiciary is goind to write bhashyams for the vedas, they may be expected to first quickly pass a judgment as to whether the tripple talaq is valid or not. And that will open a pandora's box. There are several other questions that will follow which will need an answer and a judgment from the judiciary. Are they equipped to do this?

To me it appears that it would be better if we set up special courts for the various religions in India to adjudicate on religious matters and they can call for in camera private hearings from the knowledgeable/respected heads of religious institutions before deliberating and coming to a decision about a judgment.

In the Shani temple entry and Sabarimala temple entry issue what I hear is a jarring, overwhelming clutter of enthusiasts drowling every protest. Those who are atheists, those who are arm chair intellectuals of the leftist inclination, those who are just shallow have all usurped the stage. These are matters which are to be discussed in a different atmos. We need to listen to the silent majority of women among the hindus who have not expressed their views yet. Make no mistake I am not a ultra conservative MCP. I support feminists but on merit.

Indian democracy is considered an anarchy of majoritarianism. Now we have to perhaps review that and call it an anarchy of upstarts too.

What sort of honesty our learned judges display when they cannot bring in gender equality amongst themselves and yet publicly cry hoarse about gender equality...It is a facade and shows a depraved mind!!

Dear Shri auh,

I also used to think, for quite some time, in the same way in which our Supreme Court judges now voice their judgements in cases of gender equality. But when the pollution of the Tabra-managed temple due to women coming inside the temple with menstrual pollution, was a test case for me. One of the learned astrologers who formed the panel for the Devaprasnam was my college mate and is a very well-respected astrologer. When I asked him whether menstruation of women made them "polluting" his answer was that he has no scientific proof to provide but, after many years of astrological experience, he now firmly believed that what is written down in the hoary astrological treatises are not wrong and that he has been witness to many "prasnams" in which such kind of pollution had made parihaarams of no effect.

That said, in my limited experience, Prasnam is not connected to any impartialor frenzied state of mind and all the predictions are based on clearly laid down aphorisms and, usually, there is a panel of experienced astrologers in Devaprasnams and this panel discussed each and every observation threadbare before the final comments are committed to paper by the main astrologer.

That is why I believe that "our limited human knowledge cannot be made the basis of judging some of the practices related to our religion".

Regarding your last point, is it not possible that between the Ultimate Godhead or Reality or Parabrahma and us humans, there are many levels of "godhead" each having its own circumscribed powers? Do we have any logical proof that beyond Man, it is only the Parabrahmam and nothing else?

Our limited knowledge is the base of our life, living everyday.
We have limited knowledge and we have to decide on the basis of our knowledge. That is not going to change. If we postpone all our action when we have limitless knowledge, it will be too late. Or even better as we will never have ultimate knowledge, we better stop living.
We need to get better and more knowledge, that is the only solution.

Auvaiyar says "Katrathu Kai Mann Alavu, Kallathathu Ulagalavu" has been translated as "What you have learned is a mere handful; What you haven't learned is the size of the world". That is true at all time.

If I knew the outcome of every action that I undertake, I will not have to guess. But that is not the case, we have to decide like should i go out, should i buy this product? Everything is based on partial knowledge.

The diver who is willing to bet on partial knowledge is the one who finds the pearl, the person who wants guarantees in life is still sitting on the shore and poor.

Dear Sangom ji,

I do not know how to respond..tragedy happens anywhere when there is mismanagement and total lack of safety..this is just human behavior.
An incident happening right in a temple shows that one is not save anywhere and we need to use our sense and sensibility to have safety in mind.

BTW going by the logic that Bhadrakali was Ugra becos she was not happy with what was going on in the temple hence this tragedy happened...so which Kali got Ugra for the recent spree of bombings in airports and public places in Europe..remember the recent Brussels airport attack? Brussels Kali got Ugra?

What about 9/11..the twin towers in USA incident?USA Kali was Ugra?

What about the recent collapse of a fly over in Bengal? Calcutta Kali was Ugra?

Coming to the other reasoning that Godhead is finding it hard to stay in a impure temple becos of females who have their menses come there..that shows God is afraid of His own creation.

Is such a God worthy of worship who is afraid of even Hemoglobin?

Also the President of the temple committee who faced difficulty etc surely had his own Karma running its course. So technically another persons Hemoglobin can not rewrite his Karma.

I feel we humans should stop giving God a bad name when we have no answers for anything.

I hear Guns N Roses in my mind now!LOL

Shot through the heart..and you're too blame..Darling..you give God a bad name!
