Vadyaar dakshinai

Unless the vadhyar takes 5 lakhs he will not do it correctly.. Nowadays vadhyars dont take 5 lakhs because they dont do all rituals fully.. But you have to force them to take 5 lakhs.. then they will be forced to do all rituals according to vedas.

for udhaka shanthi for 4 persons 4x3000=12000rs. for nandhi for 9 persons x2000= 18000 Rs, for upanayanam and vadhyar dhakshinai 10000 Rs. total 40,000 Rs. is minimum.

It is a long time, I had done naandi and upanayanam. I used to perform parvana sradham for my parents. Now, due to some old age problems, I am doing only hiranyam. For this, in Thripunithura, one wadhyar used to keep jaggery, coconut, masoor dhal etc apart from rice and banana and 1000 each for each brahmin and 15000 to the priest. Usually, the priest doubles as one of the brahmins. So, he gets 2500. In Bangalore, no such problems. It is 800 x 3 and rice and banana only.
But i have another point on the exorbitant charges for death rites. It runs into 1.5 to 3.0 lakhs as the experience with the recent deaths of my relatives indicated. They know that we need a priest do these rituals and exploit us. For example, though i know and can do all rituals, I am hesitant to do death rituals.

Greetings to all
That was a very unfortunate sentence.
I am surprised, on what basis you said so.
It's 2 edged sword. Both yajamanan and Vadhyar has to be sincere.
There are many a people who don't know to do achamanam. I don't deny that there are Vadhyar who ask high dakshinai but brings 3-4 of his team and part this too.
Here I would like to point one thing.
Not so long ago the dakshinai as well as the respect given to a Vadhyar is almost nil from a larger perspective.
Recently I got to know that a girl of a Vadhyar who is well educted working in reputed company was rejected, saying vadhyar odu ponna, vendaa.
So these kind of attitude there among us.
I have personal experience,
I have a travel& tour agency in India and now a days work abroad. But doing vaideekam as well since I wanted to upheld the family tradition, well to do person giving very meagre dakshinai for doing some pooja.
It's understandable when one is an average income, this mama is a big business owner.

For death, I do agree many Vadhyar does quote a lumpsome and finish things up just like that.
But giving lump-sum amount is where things are out of control.
If we do the rituala from the first day itself and do all of them it will come to about 1-1.25 totak am saying including all the dhanam and a decent dakshinai.
Basically for death, marriage and poonal is the major earning.. so this much dakshinai is what I feel.

Sir
We should look into present day cost of living. The vadhyars do not have pension, have to go through their old age, lead their life, children education etc. Why cringe and feel bad when payment to them Comes. After all, we don't do these functions every day. Pay them happily. Let them live. But ensure that they perform their part correctly.
I'm not a vadhyar and have no vadhyars in my family to side with them. This is my way of sustaining this tradition

I do not understand why, only when it comes to dakshinai for vadyars, we use terms like exorbitant, costly etc. We must remember a few things - inflation and cost of living applies to everyone, vadyars are not exempt. Every product or service's cost has multiplied several times over the last decade itself. Why should Sastrigal remuneration be exempt? Do they have PF, leave encashment, pension and gratuity like most of us have? Do they have medical insurance? They also have families to take care. Moreover, there is also the question of demand and supply. Vadyars, especially qualified, good vadyars are in short supply. Fewer the number of vadyars, more will be the cost of their services.
I just lost my father 6 months back. From the death day till the 13th day, I spent about 2 lacs. I thought it was worth it considering the time and resources the vadyar had to expend on me during that fortnight. Not to speak of dakshinai they have to give to co-vadyars and Danam expenses etc.

Excellent! 2 to 3 lks for the entire karya of 13 days appears very reasonable. We didn't bring anything, and take anything back when we come and go from this janma. I appreciate you, young man. Best wishes [I'm 70+, think you are in your 40s or so] For your good attitude towards others, God Almighty will bless you. Thank you. I am not a Sastrigal nor do any of my relatives.

Mr Gopalan had given specific information to the question.

All religions are based on faith and beliefs. While Hinduism is not a founded religion people of the religion treat the priests very poorly.

In organized religions people pay upwards of 15 percent or more of their total income every month. Be it a pastor or imam or rabbi , all are well taken care of.

Worth thinking about this

I think prices are reasonable in the USA. Even if you have to give the priest the same price as the temple charges.
Some of the moonlighting priests accept less.
