Dear Prof Sir,

I beg to differ even now with your view! Bharathidasan named himself so just because he loved Bharathi's writings

and Bharathi was not a 'practicing brahmin'! If Bharathi had sported a kudumi, I doubt whether he would have done so!! :D

P.S: B Bs never hesitate to take help from brahmins when they are in trouble. I hope you remember what I wrote long back.
The greatest reformer came for treatment to my dad, when he was touring in our village Anaimalai and fell  !! :thumb:

Well dear Mrs RR, you are actually proving my point. can't you see? What you are saying is, with which I agree wholeheartedly, Bharatidasan didn't care whether Bharati was a born a Brahmin or not, the fact he rejected Brahminism endeared him to the extent that he was willing to be forever known as his dasan. So, what is clear is Bhararidasan was only against the vile ideology of varna that is at the root of Brahminism, and not any individual who may have been born a Brahmin. What got his ire was the practice of Brahminism, not the birth identity.

So, where is this முழு பூசிணிக்காய் that you accuse me of concealing with cooked rice!!!!!?

regards ...

You did not get my point right Prof Sir! The 'poosanik kaay' which you are trying to conceal is that Bharathidasan ( B D ) took his name

even though Bharathi was a brahmin. I say that if Bharathi lived like a brahmin, B D would not have named himself so! :)

I beg to differ in this point too, Prof Sir!

Please don't think that ONLY brahminism has 'vile ideology of VarNA'. I have written earlier about my experience in a city bus

when I offered my seat ( I was sitting next to an SC lady) to another similar lady and what answer I got from her!! :blah:

BTW, do you know that the converted Xtians check the 'origin' before fixing arranged weddings??

LOL!

This thread was all about Bharati who lead a life as a person beyond caste and he had Samadarhsinah but now this thread is all about Caste Wars!LOL

Poor Bharati yaar!

I wonder if Bharati will get up now and write a poem "Anbe Anbe Kollathe"!

Mrs. RR. you have taken my point, gave it a different twist and then you are saying I am concealing your point. First of all, what I said is borne by facts, it is a fact B was born a Brahmin and it is a fact BD did take that monicker. What you are saying, on the other hand, is IF...THEN speculation, like IF அத்தைக்கு மீசை மொளச்சா THEN சித்தப்பன். Even this speculation only strengthens my point as it shows he didn't have anything against those who are born as Brahmins, IF they don't live like a Brahmin, THEN he is ready to embrace them even to the extent of being their Dasan.

Leaving all speculations aside, how are you so sure Bharathi didn't live like a Brahmin? He had glowing praise for Varna in கொட்டு முரசு murasu songs. Taken in totality his views seem to be similar to the ones expressed by some Brahmnists here who make the specious argument that all jAti's can live in harmony without harboring superiority or inferiority.

BTW, do you know what was inside that turban on his head? But that is neither here nor there, in those days kudumi was the norm, everyone had it, not just Brahmins.

Your other observations only show how deeply jAti is ingrained in the Indian psyche. It is somewhat understandable that the uneducated and socially backward cling to it, but it is unconscionable that those who should know better also tout the vile varna/jAti ideology. They should be at the vanguard of social change, but they beat the jAti drums just as hard as the uneducated and uncouth.

Nara,

Mrs. RR. you have taken my point, gave it a different twist and then you are saying I am concealing your point.

Using my right to participate in the conversation, I give my views here. Your understanding of brahmins reveals a horrible confusion in thinking and understanding. Your understanding of "living like a brahmin" is the result of a complete misunderstanding of the term brahmin. You gathered everything that is there in a brahmin way of life which does not go well with the current times and trends and gave it a funny name "brahminism". Now you are saying(the highlighted sentence above) that BD also thought like you and so he took the name Bhratidasan when he found Bharati lived unlike other brahmins. And you further try to add to the confusion with your அத்தை, சித்தப்பன் and மீசை.

Now the confusion stands confounded. Bharathi lived like a brahmin with his praise for varna-this is your finding. His views were similar to the views of some members here-this too is your finding from the கொட்டு முரசு. Then how come that BD took the dasya name of that kind of a varna enthusiast. Do you mean to say BD did not understand the true colors of a varna enthusiast or that BD himself was a varna enthusiast?

Your other observations only show how deeply jAti is ingrained in the Indian psyche. It is somewhat understandable that the uneducated and socially backward cling to it, but it is unconscionable that those who should know better also tout the vile varna/jAti ideology. They should be at the vanguard of social change, but they beat the jAti drums just as hard as the uneducated and uncouth.

No jAti drum is beaten by brahmins here. It is those 'intellectuals' who have a misplaced enthusiasm, nay, fervor for a Aviyal making homogenisation who are behaving like the uneducated and uncouth street corner fiery speaker who sells hatred opium liberally. They should know better that variety is the essence of life and no two individuals in this world is created the same way. These modern day Goebbels brand every brahmin who speaks this truth with all kinds of funny names. I repeat there is no superiority or inferiority among jAtis but jAtis do exist because of the heterogeneity in the human masses. There is nothing wrong in accepting this truth and moving ahead without wasting time in tampering with it(with the IC/IR unnatural alliances).

Thanks.
