This is one paragraph from one of my poems written in 1984.
புதுமைக் கவிதை வளர்ச்சியைப் பற்றி ...
புதுமை செய்ய எண்ணிய பலரும்
புனைந்த ததனிற் கவிதை என்பது
தினைநிறை கூட இல்லை யாமே.
கருத்து மட்டும் கவிதை ஆகாது;
உருவமும் வேண்டும் உயிரினை உணர்த்த.
இன்னும் ஒன்றை இங்கே சொல்வேன்.
மன்னரைப் பாடிய கால மொழிந்து,
மக்களைப் பாடும் தருணம் இதனில்,
மக்களைக் கவிதை எட்டுவ தில்லை.
மரபுக் கவிதைகள் மருட்டிய தாலும்,
மெருகுச் சொற்கள் அலுத்தத னாலும்,
புதிய முறையில் எழுத நினைத்தவர்
விதியின் நீங்கிக் குழம்பி நிற்பதே,
இன்றைய நமது கவிதையின் நிலையாம்.
சென்றதை மறந்து எழுதிய கவிதை,
வென்றதா? இல்லையே! மக்களின் மனதில்
நின்றதா? இல்லையே? பின்னெது புதுமை?
My point is those who hate grammar and those who could not grasp fine grammar only blame the well structured verses of yester-years. If at all a writer who is good at free verses learns grammar and becomes proficient too, he will be more successful than he was once. You ask any popular poet, he/she will readily agree with me.
One must know thoroughly what is already in existence, before embarking upon something new.
