Pazakkam - Ozukkam-Vazakkam
It is being portrayed as if we are at the end of the road no woman is trust worthy. If that's the case i differ on a whole. It is the negative message passed by few saddists deepens the hole in this society.let us rather promote the positiveness in all the good practices that cherished in this country.Needless to say transformation comes from within & with a start...so it should not be a question btw a guy or a girl rather at society at large...
i knew few caste in TN have a practice of wearing metti fr MEN as well..but the question is if the gentlemen /women are carefree of it..what is the purpose..?
It is the thought of schooling one needs to learn from the good role models.I am sure atleast we will have few in our own families....

Request people to attempt promoting good things rather sigh of on the conventional system as no one completely knows the real purpose. It is just different interpretations...

Dear sir,

Do not get disheartened.
Some of us females might not wear Thali and Pottu but our mind is always focused on God and well being of husband and children.

Some of us even kept fast 2 x a year for husband that is on Vara Lakshmi Vrat and also on Karva Chaut.
We teach children all mantras and religion too.
We never spend husbands money cos we use our own money..so he is not burdened with all expenses.

So no one is care free..some might want to be fashionable and not want to wear Thali and Pottu but we are as faithful as Rohini who follows Chandra!LOL

.....
Since the brahmin guys have started wondering why to wear the poonal, viboothi / nAmam on the forehead etc,

women (all Hindus) have gone one step forward, wondering why to wear the 'thAli', 'pottu' etc!

/QUOTE]

Pretty soon it may be difficult to tell the female gender apart from the male gender, the way the women wear their bobbed hair, and pants and shirts. A joke comes to mind>
Two middle age people were standing in a bus stop in Chennai. There was another young person a few yards apart. The first middle age person told the second, "look at that young person over there, you can't tell whether it is a boy or a girl". The second person said, "that is my daughter". The first person said, "I am awfully sorry, I didn't know you were her father". The second person retorted, "I beg your pardon, I am her mother".:cheer2:

P.S: In tennis language we call it a double fault!

This joke reminds me one of my poems:

பின்னிருந்து மட்டுமல்ல
முன்னிருந்து நோக்கினும்
எப்பாலரென தெரியாது
சரிநிகர் சமானமாய்....

There are good Ms and bad Ms; what ratan tata said at the inauguration of the tata nano project in gujarat. (for the uninformed good M is modi and bad M is mamta)

In this situation too we have good and bad Ms!

But in which Indian Language the letter M is written as M?

म् ம ??????

BTW Mamiyar and Mamanar and Mui money also starts with M!!

See what I mean..it's obedience only for woman.
What about guys yaar?
They are always escaping.
That's why I feel some practices are man made to keep control on women.

The Ozhukkam for men should come out of wearing the yagnopavit (poonool)...It is a key instrument for inculcating and imparting discipline , values of life and would guide us on the right conduct.

The key to all this, man or woman is righteous character for which one has to cultivate the right thoughts.

But that is not for every caste isn't it?

BTW what is the guarantee that a person who has all the outward sign and symptoms of being Ozhukkam is not doing the reverse behind everyone's back?

That is why it is better we DO NOT judge the book by its cover.

Fees for the medical course are now fixed at 2.8 lakhs. I do not know whether per semeste or year or the for the whole course.

We had a reddy boy in our engineering class. He said - dowry will go up by several lakhs for every year he completes (not passes).

How to recover the fees on medical courses?

Why are the fees so high?

Why start marriage by making each other spend so much?
Moderation is the key.

That's the Kartavyam of the parents to bear the expenses of the child's education.

We cannot be thinking make a child a doctor and get back the money from the DIL or anyone else.

Like once a man told my father that "you are spending so much money on your daughter to make her a doctor..you are not ever going to get it back..so why waste it on a girl child."

That time in Manipal it was some US $ 30,000 for capitation in 1990.
Now it's much higher.

So my father replied that "its my duty to educate my daughter and its none of my business or your business to think of the fruits of my action!"

Thank God in Malaysia no one practices dowry system.

Mangalsutra starts with a "M"!
icon3.png

May be that is why it is made in the shape of a "M!"

Man or Male who ties it also starts with "M"

The lady Mangai who receive it also starts with "M"

Marriage also starts with "M"

Mandapam the veneu of the event also starts with"M"

Mitra who attend the function also starts with "M"
dear VR !
your M list made me to think of other Ms
muhurtham also starts with M
mantram ..do...
marriyathai..do..
after marriage you get machunan, matchini,Mamiyar or Mamanaar or bothor all
somebody get murukku (eatable )or mappillai murukku(adviced not to have )
marriage is union of two M(manasu of male &mangai)
it requires blessings from good hearts (manasu )
the marriage should continue even after becoming mootharignar &moothati
somebody expects moi(gift ) in marriage
when tieing the knot known as Muditchu
many parents get the feeling of Mandai kanchu pochu

Dear Sri. Sarang, Greetings,

Leave alone the studying..... I know one boy who has a top job at the country levl in Australia.... he or his parents didn't ask for anything towards dowry... in fact they didn't even ask for anything....

Why should the girl pay all those fees back? How is that justified?

Now, if that girl is also qualified well.... very well, would the groom pay dowry to the girl's parents?

I think, the girls should visit the prospective grooms to choose the boys. Those boy's family asked the girls to sing or dance or both; the girls should ask the boys to perform a 'kata'. What is a 'kata'? Google it, please.( By the way, I did perform a 'kata' for her! But, just for her though).

Cheers!

Dear Raghy Ji,

I remember when I was viewed by my husband and his family..my FIL saw the piano and asked me if I played the piano and I said yes.
So I played for them.
I thought it was fun to play.
That's no big deal..if anyone had asked me to sing I would have sang too whatever Bhajans I know.

namaste everyone.

Please refer to my post at the link below for the significance of 'tAli':
http://www.tamilbrahmins.com/philosophy-traditions/5422-mangalyam-kodi.html#post63594

• Whatever the custom in the North, women wearing tAli since their marriage has been in practice in the Tamizh culture, probably since the Sangham times. SIvaka chintAmaNi mentions it:

நாண் உள் இட்டுச் சுடர் வீச
நல் மாணிக்க நகுதாலி
பேணி நல்லார் கழுத்து அணிந்து
பெருங்கண் கருமை விருந்து ஊட்டி

~nAN uL iTTuch chuDar vIsa
~nal mANikka ~nakutAli
pENi ~nallAr kazhuthtu aNi~ndu
peru~gkaN karumai viru~ndu UTTi
--sIvaka chintAmaNi, 2697

• ஐம்படைத்தாலி--aimpaDaithtAli was a protective necklet that a child was made to wear on the fitth day of birth during the Sangham times:

The tAli a marrying woman was made to wear probably originated from this practice.

• Some terms connected with tAli:

Dear RR ji,

Out here in Malaysia I can safely say 99.99% of South Indian woman wear their Pottu and Thali.
Some of us choose not to wear cos Pottu and Thali do not match certain clothes and further more men have no identification of marriage so why should females have?

But its not easy to face the crowd of Thali and Pottu wearers when you have a bare forehead and neck. They never leave you alone and keep asking you why you don't wear and sometimes even pass comments.

I call them THALIBAN!!LOL
In UK and USA the office going married women are wearing only the thali in gold chain and hide it in side their tops.they can not wear mancha kayir as in india. we shoud be happy that they have not hanging their thali in coat stand like some ultra modern folk in india.

The poonool will be inside the clothes.

No one is going to see it unless men walk around topless
like the priests and pundits in public places!!! :)

My father used to say this very often,

"In our place, everyone knows us and so we can be ourselves.
In a new place no one knows us. So we can be ourselves."

So we can just be ourselves all the time
and have a free mind without putting up pretenses
and trying to maintain imaginary images!!!! :drama:
dear VR !
my wife is saying the same always.when somebody ask her why she ia always in normal dress &makeup (for marriage of her son &daughter she has not visited beautician for video ),she will say i am known to every body as wife of so &so as welasdaughter of so and soand the special amke up wil not change my status.like wise it unknown place there is nobody to give special treatment cos the humpak.

You and renukaji have gone into the merits of non giving or not demanding dowry. There is no second opinion on that. I agree with you.

Parents of the boy and the girl will decide what to do when the time comes for marriage. There are many doctor-doctor marriages. I agree in refined families, there is no direct and crude demand; but both sides spend lot of money on the wedding.

2.8 lakhs plus living expenses is a considerable burden on the boy's or girl's parents. I was wondering why the fess is so high?

"Four colleges – the PSG Institute of Medical Sciences, Coimbatore, Sree Moogambika Institute of medical Sciences, Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi Institute of Medical Sciences and Karpaga Vinayaga Institute of Medical Sciences – are allowed to charge Rs. 2.80 lakh as tuition fee. These colleges were charging Rs. 2.50 lakh as tuition fee last year.

Ha Ha Ha..
You know out here in Malaysia people believe in numerology and you will find weird sounding names and weird spelled names so that the letters in the name will add up to some so called lucky number.

Ok here are some names...be ready brace yourself.

Vishnu is spelled as Vishannu
Varun is spelled as Varrunn
Even names like Dukesh are kept cos they are numerically lucky..but what a name? Dukesh(Lord of Sorrow)

Ok Gopal is spelt as Gooppal.
Tarun is spelt as Tharroon.

I was wondering that if we write the name Varun as Varrunn in english alphabets but when we write it in any Indian language it will be spelt as वरुण् only..so all the double RR and NN etc will not occur.

That's why when someone asked me why I do not believe in Numerology for my son's name I told them "Cos I am not an Englishkari. I am a Tamilian and in Tamil I can't write all extra letters here and there"
dear renuka ji !
being tamil there is no place for adding letters
if you add ku with rengan he will become kurengan
if you expand kalavathy as kaalavathy the meaning will different
kothanda raman will come ko thaandaa raman
if you modify kulasekaran by adding l he wil become kull sekaran or kolla sekaran
like wise pichu mani will become peechu mani ,subramani wil become soobra amni etc. LOL !!
