absolutely nothing sir.

if you can get someone on whom you are able to enforce it.

not many want the wise counsel of seniors

hi

i generally prefer DHAAVANI AND MADISAR ...especiallly for tambram families....luckly we use both in USA in our homes regularly..

now a days teen age gals using SALWAR KAMEEZ and mamis are mostly in NIGHTY....i think both EASY AND MORE CONVINIENT...

girls wearing salwar kameez in south look like tamil film extras.

Here are some beautiful looking SI women (Rajashree Warrior and Methil Devika) in Salwar Kameez:

It all takes only a slim figure, and the right haircut and accessories to look good 'in any outfit', including Western clothes!

Even some plump women look good in any dress, given they wear it somewhat loose and the dress is shapely, well-designed.

For example, I've seen even plump Mrs. Rajnikanth looking good in Salwar Kameez! Its a very forgiving dress anyone shouldn't be afraid to try! ;-)

the faces of the ladies look good.
one print red is good for a dressing gown and black dress is like an executioners black cloak
unless you say it is salwar kameez , it is not apparent

Oh my god! Your beauty standards are way too high, Krish Sir!

(If I ever have to visit any TAMBRAM house, especially from this forum by any chance, I'll make sure I'll wear a sari....not even Rajashree and Devika seem to get rave reviews, where am I??).

I was not criticizing their beauty . both are beautiful women

only their dress sense could be better

or they will be offered vamp roles in films

Dear Jayshree,

Not to worry! You are welcome to my sweet home, wearing salwar kameez. :)

I hate to wear the baggie nighties. My evening / night dress is always simple salwar and kameez, stitched by me!

For travel, I have a few good ones but I don't buy the ready made sets. :nono:

Dear Raji Mam,

So sweet of you... I'll be honored to visit your kind self, I will definitely keep it in mind (and bug you :-) ).

You should also come to my house when you visit your family in USA next time. (As I read in your post elsewhere you visited Boston)..

And please wear your homemade Salwar Kameez that time :-). (Or Jeans...)

Dear Krish ji,

Both of them are kind of homely...not really drop dead. They would suitable for homely roles in movies.Like the roles actress Revathi takes..sans glamor.

You are right...there is room from improvement for their dress sense.

BTW we need to realize the each community looks the best in their own traditional garb.

For example only a Chinese female can carry out their traditional Cheongsam cos its needs very narrow hips and a smaller chest line and a small waist.

Also have you noticed when white super models wear sarees..even thought they have perfect figures they still do not carry out a saree as well as an equally perfect body Indian model?

I think the reason is being confident with your own tradition makes you look good.

So may be that is why SI females do not look good in Salwar Kameez cos its not their garment.

Leg stride..when a person walks with a Salwar Kameez..you can walk with bigger strides.

Nighties..its very convenient..free and unrestricted...easy to sleep in and at home its decent cos its full length with sleeves.

There is also another version called the Kaftan..here we have Batik Kaftans that have wings like sleeves and that too is comfortable

But make sure Cotton Nighties/Kaftans are only worn in the house and not outside the house.

I have noticed many women from India who stay in Msia esp those from TN and Kerala have a tendency to wear their nighties for grocery shopping..coming to a clinic etc.

This looks sloppy cos its not a garment meant to be worn outside the house.

OMG RR ji...when guest come to the house..dress up in a nice saree and look sweet and cute so that if the guests decide to take a pic with you and then up-load it on their Facebook at least you will look your very best.

Dear Renu,

If I wear a silk saree and take a pic with a forum friend, you will receive it and you know that too! :D

IMO, when it comes to dressing more than what 'others' feel, what we feel is more important. For example, in a Sari, my broad shoulders and plump upper arms get highlighted, whereas a Salwar Kameez camouflages such flaws. So the end result is that I feel really attractive in a gorgeous Salwar Kameez that has cute Embroidery work than any Sari.

The trick of looking great is covering the flaws and highlighting the assets.

There is no need to cover everything.

Your above sentences are mutually contradictory.

by the way, I can never buy the argument that salwar kameez does not look good on SIs. It can and it does... to many. There is no comparison between a Western woman and her sAri on this one. As all Indians are similarly structured, and thus Salwar Kameez can equally look good on a SI structure as it does to a NI. This is my view on it and I am not changing it.

10 yrs ago, I was slim and I used to sport a Blunt cut and wear Sleeveless tops and jeggings. I used to feel good in those too, not to mention a Salwar Kameez. Now that I have gained weight, I have resorted to loose jeans and long sleeved tops or Salwar kameez which I feel is form fitting and attractive at the same time, hiding all that hideous weight.

And, dressing should be left to personal choice and should never be 'dictated' to others.

I end presenting my views here.

Dear Jayashree,

Not contradictory at all!
Renu advises to cover only the flaws and make the assets showy! :decision:

That is why dhuppattAs are NOT in the place where they are supposed to be!

LOL! But seriously Raji mam, going by Renuka's advice, I shuld be wearing sleeveless now... which is impossible even to think of, given the fatty upperarms I have now!

The guide to elegance is covering the flaws.
