Somebody was shouting from the roof top that the thread starter has no right to impose what is posted in the thread.

Anyway, varsha bhosle is a celebrity, a respected journalist, and a human being. Only a sample of her writings is posted to understand her personality. All my postings have a relation with the topic under discussion. Of course, one who is agitated is free to skip to other sections or start a new thread.

I see your jalara party has not seen this post yet.
If you care to see the original post you will see my name on it. I did not claim that I own the thread, I only told you to stick to the topic or start your own rant, instead of trolling.

Law has not prevented any crime and it has only produced more laws. Somebody said "All laws are useless, for the good people do not need them and bad are not made any better of them. Of course the abettors can be booked but there is a chance the lawyers or the presiding judge may become depressed. If the mind is sick, there is no force on earth which can help the depressed to come out strongly. But one thing is clear we have been creating a fast and furious environment to out do one another wherein the frenzied either succeed or give up. Diversion to practical life or spiritual or religious thoughts or sermons might help some. This again is no guarantee. One thing the Society can do is to help and be sympathetic to those unknown minds.

Attempt to suicide must be decriminalized: Supreme Court
Dhananjay Mahapatra, TNN Mar 8, 2011, 12.43am IST

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday observed that time has come to decriminalize attempt to suicide by erasing the punishment provided in Indian Penal Code and asked Parliament to examine it.

"We are of the opinion that although Section 309 of IPC (attempt to suicide) has been held to be constitutionally valid in Gian Kaur's case by Supreme Court, the time has come when it should be deleted by Parliament as it has become anachronistic," said a bench of Justices Markandey Katju and Gyan Sudha Misra while dealing with the issues relating to euthanasia. "A person attempts to suicide in a depression, and hence he needs help, rather than punishment. We therefore recommend to Parliament to consider the feasibility of deleting Section 309 from the Indian Penal Code," said Justice Katju while writing the judgment for the bench.

Suicide is a Global Phenemenon and has to be dealt with compassion...and councelling.. In todsays BBC news the follwing appeared:
South Korea suicide rates prompt web scrutiny

South Korea has appointed a team of people to scan the internet for suicide-related material as part of a move to cut suicide rates. The 100-strong group of watchdogs is made up of a cross-section of society, including students, housewives and mental health specialists.
South Korea has one of the highest suicide rates in the world, with 40 people taking their own lives each day.The government says a rise in harmful web material is a contributing factor.
The watchdogs will monitor blogs and social media sites for any material that helps or encourages people to plan their own deaths.
It is thought young people often trawl the internet for companions with whom to make pacts.
A Seoul city government spokesman told the South Korean news agency Yonhap that suicide "is no longer an individual problem but rather a social issue that we must all take part in to resolve".
Pressure
There are five times as many suicides in South Korea as there were a generation ago, according to the government.
Many blame the rise on the country's high-pressure education system, as many of those who commit suicide are students, says the BBC's Lucy Williamson in Seoul.
Others believe the rise is a result of the country's rapid economic growth, which has led to some of the longest working hours in the developed world, she says.
Over the last year, various schemes have been introduced to try to reduce the figures.
Phones linked to emergency helplines have been installed on Seoul's major bridges, and a team of rescue workers patrol the Han River.

10/10 is world mental health day:

A paragraph from todays NEWSPAPER:

There seems little doubt in my mind that depression, in particular at the severe end of the experience of this condition, is as real a disorder as diabetes is at the severe end of blood glucose levels.
...not only that the core features of this condition can be identified in all cultures, but also that the condition is very common and disabling.

depression (albeit with different names and different explanations) has existed as long as mankind itself, and certainly well before psychiatry or antidepressant medication came into being.

We need to move firmly beyond the misinformed views that depression is a “psychiatric invention” to investing more on understanding its nature, finding more accurate ways of distinguishing when a person with the condition may benefit from medical care, and improving access to the full range of treatments (medicines and psychosocial) for such persons.

The conclusion is drawn that there is an association between religious
commitment and good mental health, but that it can be masked by the inverse
dependencies of religion and mental health on economic, health and demographic
factors.

QUOTE FROM :

The purpose of the present study was to examine the question of whether or
not commitment to religious beliefs is associated with better mental health in
typical community members. A household interview survey was conducted in a
stratified, clustered sample of 3% of the adults that resided in a largely
religious and rural mountain community. The Duke Health Profile was used to
assess mental and physical health, and the nature and depth of religious
devotion or commitment was based on the response to an interview item. Of the
respondents in the sample, the mean age was 48.7 years, 55% were women, and the
average annual family income was $14 300 (US). In a simple unadjusted analysis,
religiosity was significantly correlated with physical health (the ill were more
religious) and gender (women were more religious), but not with mental health,
age, income, education level, or geographic mobility. Mental health was
correlated with gender (women scored lower), physical health (the ill scored
lower), and income (the wealthy scored higher); but the correlations with these
variables were largely in the opposite direction than religiosity. When the
correlation between religiosity and mental health were adjusted for the
economic, health, and demographic characteristics with the multiple partial
correlation method, a definite correlation was found (r = 0.11 to 0.14, p =
0.005 to 0.032). The conclusion is drawn that there is an association between
religious commitment and good mental health, but that it can be masked by the
inverse dependencies of religion and mental health on economic, health and
demographic factors. These results suggest that further investigation should be
undertaken in order to elucidate the clinical utility of incorporating religious
beliefs and practice into patient therapy.

Relationship of Mental Health to Religiosity [MJM 1997 3: 86-92]

simple 20 questions, 10 of them positive questions, 10 of them negative questions. just to give an idea if some one is really depressed to warrant medical attention.

PS: cultural differences may affect this score to some extent but not to a major extent
