Will decision to make Sasikala party chief be made unanimously?

On Thursday, Tamil Nadu will be keenly watching a meeting at the Srivaru Kalyana Mandapam in Vanagaram, in the outskirts of Chennai city.

The General Council and Executive Committee meeting of TN's ruling party AIADMK will be held for the first time after the death of late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on December 5, 2016.

About 2,770 AIADMK members are part of the General Council which includes MPs, MLAs, district secretaries and other members.

Will Sasikala attend the General Council meeting?

It is unlikely that she will attend the meeting. Though Sasikala is a member of the party's Executive Committee, sources in the AIADMK told The News Minute that it is unlikely that she will attend the meeting. She has been advised not to go for the party meeting till the party passes a resolution declaring her as the General Secretary.

However, some leaders believe that she may attend the meeting if things get volatile and 'emotionally charged' members demand her presence.

What will transpire in the meeting?

The party will first pay tribute to their leader Jayalalithaa and pass a resolution mentioning their condolences. The resolution may seek a Bharat Ratna for Jayalalithaa.

They might also pay tribute to Cuba’s revolutionary leader and former president Fidel Castro.

[h=1]Sasikala vs Sasikala in AIADMK turns violent, MP's husband and lawyer bashed up at HQ[/h]

The incident comes a day before AIADMK's general council meeting in Chennai, where Sasikala Natarajan is expected to be made general secretary.

AIADMK cadres thrashed expelled AIADMK MP Sasikala Pushpa's husband Lingeswaran Thilagan and their legal representatives on Wednesday when they visited the party headquarters in Chennai.

Some reports suggest that Lingeswaran and his legal representatives had arrived at the Royapettah AIADMK office to file nomination for the post of General Secretary.

Thanthi TV reports that they were accosted by AIADMK cadres before they presented the letter. Around 100 AIADMK cadres were present at the office when the incident took place. Chennai police had to intervene to help rescue Lingeswaran and others from the angry mob.

அதிமுக பொதுச் செயலாளராக வி.கே.சசிகலா நியமிக்கப்பட்டிருப்பதாக, தமிழக முதல்வரும் அதிமுக பொருளாளருமான ஓ.பன்னீர்செல்வம் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

சென்னை வானகரத்தில் உள்ள ஸ்ரீவாரு மண்டபத்தில் இன்று (வியாழக்கிழமை) காலை 9.30 மணியளவில் அதிமுக பொதுக்குழு கூட்டம் தொடங்கியது. அவைத்தலைவர் மதுசூதனன் தலைமையில் கூடிய இக்கூட்டத்தில் 14 தீர்மானங்கள் நிறைவேற்றப்பட்டன.

பின்னர் செய்தியாளர்களை சந்தித்த தமிழக முதல்வரும் அதிமுக பொருளாளருமான ஓ.பன்னீர்செல்வம், "கழக சட்டதிட்ட விதிகளுக்கு உட்பட்டு கழக பொதுச் செயலாளராக சசிகலா நியமிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறார். அதற்கான தீர்மானம் பொதுக்குழுவில் ஏகமனதாக நிறைவேற்றப்பட்டிருக்கிறது.

இந்தத் தீர்மானத்தை சசிகலாவிடம் தெரிவித்து அவரது சம்மதத்தை பெறுவதற்காக செல்கிறோம்" என்றார் ஓபிஎஸ்.
இதையடுத்து, முதல்வர் ஓ.பன்னீர்செல்வத்துடன் அமைச்சர் எடப்பாடி பழனிச்சாமி, மக்களவை துணை சபாநாயகர் தம்பிதுரை ஆகியோர் போயஸ் கார்டன் சென்றனர்.

CM in tears at AIADMK general council meet

Chennai: The first general council meeting of the AIADMK after the death of party supremo J Jayalalithaa had a few emotional moments today. The usual crowd and josh which mark the GC and executive committee meetings were missing and overall it was a silent affair.

Only those with invites were allowed inside the premises - Sri Varu Thirumana Mandapam at Vanagaram. The 'Amma vaazhga', 'Puratchi thalaivi vaalga' slogans and songs praising Jayalalithaa which would give aura to the general council meetings were missing.

[h=1]Making of Chief Chinnamma: How Sasikala’s anointment was stage-managed at every step[/h]
A blow-by-blow account of the events which led to Sasikala becoming the leader of Tamil Nadu’s ruling party.

In all likelihood, the preparation for Sasikala to take over the AIADMK began in the immediate aftermath of Jayalalithaa’s death, with her standing by the body all day on December 6, and occupying the forefront till Jayalalithaa was laid to rest.

But it wasn’t until December 29, when the General Council of the AIADMK met to take a decision on who should be the next General Secretary of the party, that her central standing received its formal stamp.

The day went past like a bland screenplay, no twists and no turns. Every single aspect seemed to have been stage-managed, right from the timing of announcements to ‘calls’ for Sasikala to take over the party, to even the banners and posters adorning public corners.
The meeting was scheduled to begin at 9.30am, but leaders started rolling in as early as 8am. On the way to the venue of the meeting at a huge hall in Vanagaram on the outskirts of Chennai, Jayalalithaa’s posters dotted the Maduravayol Road. There was not a single poster of Sasikala to be seen.
