...and there are many more.

Many years ago, in MIT, the Jews were a severe competition for me in presenting thesis on a particular program of study.

In India Brahmins score above others on the same subject. The identity of the subject is immaterial here.

But in MIT, my reaction to the Jews was, 'How dare you outbetter me? After all you guys are not Brahmins!'.

But years have passed. I have travelled a long journey on time. I have matured somewhat.

When I look back, I wonder why I reacted so. Not only I, my fellow brahmin friends and relatives, in other universities also reacted so.

Is this any complex with us?

Why is it everything about us is supreme, superior? If it is not ours, why is it sub-standard in all probability?

Is supremacy claims are true, justifiable or are our minds conditioned and programmed to conceive so?

We have a zeal, passion, to shine, to sparkle and to excel in anything and everything. We are all most welcome to have such zeal. But is it our property? Is it our belonging?

Are we possessive about greatness, greatest and other superlatives?

Whenever our tenets are challenged, why is it we hasten to clench our fists for an ego combat?

Why do we assume the role 'Champions of Sanatana Dharma'?

This same Vivekananda also said, 'Had I lived during the times of Jesus, I would have torn my heart and washed His legs with my blood"

Though I am not a Brahmin, I would like to say that the feeling of superiorty depends on what a person or community identifies themselves with.

For eg for a Brahmin, knowledge is their domain.
So they view someone else who is intelligent as a potential competition.

A person from a bussiness community and super rich will not envy a gold medalist in a university because he is not there to get a gold medal but to gain the required knowledge to continue his legacy and money earning capacity.
He will view another bussiness magnet as his competition.

So it all depends what we identify with.

"For our own motherland a junction of the two great systems, Hinduism and Islam —Vedanta brain and Islam body — is the only hope".

You have not been to U. P. in India of today or any other bastion of Hindutwa. There is nothing other than Hindutva and bling faith.

I thought it was about a Real estate Complex. Not a psychological issue.

Having never lived in Tamil Nadu, I never had this complex. I never felt persecuted or felt like a victim. I never felt I was superior to anyone else just because I was born into a TB family, or that I am vegetarian. So I have very little baggage to carry.
Having been in this forum I can understand some of the things you are talking about.
I have never compared myself with American Jews. Yes, there are some things common to both Brahmins and Jews, but that is coincidental. We find we have many things in common with Tamil-speaking Indian Muslims

Why isolate a caste name and create a complex after that ?

I have not seen any jewish people ever exhibit any complex. Within a religions some may claim they are special .. But all religions claim some greatness.

OP borders on casteism which is as horrible as racism.

Swami Vivekananda called an end to all this in his Chicago address.

Why cant we simply take each other as human beings with human strengths and weaknesses?

Jesus Christ is a Mahatma for he taught the world the meaning of unconditional Love.

Buddha called an end to such a thinking. But the hatred in human mind is not easy to get rid of. It rears its ugly head in some or the other to put down some group of people.

This forum itself is founded on high ideals . Look at the words of the forum owner in the posts about civility

We are not here to talk about any community and that includes whoever calls themselves as Brahmans. I do not take myself as TB or non-TB. The nick name used could mean a person of TB culture or the letter a could be taken as opposite. It is purposely ambiguous because I would like to see all as human beings first including the OP poster who loves to dole out personal attacks instead of sticking with a topic. But I just wanted to speak against the hate message in making up such topics.

I have not known anyone claiming to be Brahmin with any special complex than what is seen in any other human being.

These caste labels are our imaginations superimposed on just plain human beings.

Let us be respectful and not start topics about any caste having a complex, please. Debating points is welcome but hate of the heart is not. Let us remember Jesus Christ - even while being crucified he said only that they do not know what they are doing
