in a previous era, usa was so open, that a visitor could walk into the plane to say 'good bye'. now they are paranoidly fearful of terrorism. and american flag carriers are the prime targets. it is unfortunate that many innocent muslims get tagged for extra security. incidently yours truly too, when i print out my boarding pass, gets the SSSS mark on the document - meaning i get special treatment. i just grin and bear it, and give myself extra 15 minutes, and am glad, in a way, that hopefully by this method, the real culprits are prevented too.

one has to agree, with all these security measures, we have not heard of any airline hijacking for the past several years. flying is now a privilege, and not a right, as it used to be previously

re everyone wanting to live in the usa: i live in canada, a fairly prosperous country. but even we used to be amazed at how easy a material life in the usa is. life, if you have a job, is indeed easy to procur. that country is going through rough times now, and not sure, how long it will be before it pulls itself through. it eventually will.

but appears to lack the political will at this moment. all because, வரவு எட்டணா செலவு பத்தணா being followed.

the usa has several hundreds of universities and many of them have post graduate departments. most americans, shun higher studies, as it is easier to get a job, and make money. the attitude in the usa re universities, afaik, is one goes to university only out of interest. otherwise ordinary folks can make a decent living working with their hands - plumber, electrician, carpentery - all are well paying professions.

indian & chinese students form the bulk of the post graduate students, because somehow or the other, they manage to get tuition waiver and work some part time work, and get a post graduate degree, and find a job in the usa. for most indian students, usa is an adventure, to be enjoyed, and also a period of growing up, away from their parents and restrictions. they mature, become self responsible and above all learn to wean themselves away from the parental money bag.

hope this explains, somewhat, why usa is such an attraction for indian students.

also, starting a business is very easy in the usa. the banks usually give money without bribes, and governments welcome businesses, because they provide jobs. profits is encouraged. unfortunately, some people took too much liberty and caused today's problems. but then that is another looooooooong story.

Of course in recent years the global countries could not prevent the terms of terrorism or may find hardship to prevent, which has taken in for various reasons. Here, I am not going to denunciation to an individual nor the entire countries in the global. The terrorism now- a- days seems in all countries and right to say that no country would not exempt its horror dance. We cannot trace out the terrorism where when and how it would be occurred. It said how this is not easy to find out the period ultimately hard to give definitions to these horrible activities.

However, whenever go through the history there is reason to assume the main causes that would be held either by the religions or supremacy of the countries.

Heavenlier Mohammed cannot deny raising the sword against the tort. In addition to that he raised his own sword against the injustice Ghazis and Ulama.

Swami Vivekananda have advised to our youngsters whenever the situation arises to take the beef to develop the body for chase away the English from our country it would not be a wrongful one.

This is common to see that every Hindu God and Goddesses have their own weapons in their hands.
Can you define all these things will be right things? You won’t.

So the thoughts desires and even the rules and adjudicate might be varied from country to country people to people.

Here, Adolf Hitler’s steps to massacres against the Jews would be righteous to the German. But this seems in the eye of the World as great vandalism and inhuman nature.

Are you going to justified the atom blasted on innocent people in Nagasaki and Hiroshima by this genocide country?

We have to see that all this conflicts as now prevailing is for crude oil.

To say that this super power USA associated with the Western powers and cornered the Gulf countries for the petroleum.

Because of this reason these countries uplifted some Gulf countries and on the other side encouraging some militants where the countries would not obey their orders. Because of the dual policy system it is easy to supervise the other countries for USA.

When, the USSR in competitive to the USA it could find hardship to show the supremacy to the others until USSR’S break-up.

Paradoxically events took place in our former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s visiting. The USA security officials would not take any interest to avoid this savageness. From this, they made the constant blur in view of the World.

Between, 1947 and 1965 only 6,000 Indians entered the USA. But 1968 and 1976 over 100,000 Indians entered the USA and another 50,000 immigrated in the next four years. This kind of exodus is described as brain drain. Here, we have seen that the migrations were to the USA, took part in the year, between 1947 to 1965 were only 6000.

During that period, the students were not aware of the higher education, because the country were in under developed. When compared to the year 1968 and 1976 the year 1947 and 1965 the migratory was only 6000. Because, the year 1947 to 1965 England was much attractive one to our people.


After, the independence Indian government drew foreign policy under the leadership of our Prime Minister. Jawaharlal Nehru. The country adopted the policy of non-interference and neutrality. India advocating socialism. But, sooner or later India felt the difficulties of standing its own. This had learnt from the setback in the China war. So India, shouldered by Russia and this brought many fortunate to India.

If there is a pattern in obama-thinking, I feel US will plan that India provoke China, or, if China provokes India, assure all arms suuply and back-up logistics to India so that China will be humbled and India obliterated; two birds in one arrow and US will continue as hegemon of the world.

India with sonia hoping to settle down in US as a billionairess and poor MMS with upper storey vacant, will obey obama to the dot. But the chinese are inscrutable and astrology favours china as the only superpower (and most powerful militarily) in the decades to come.

However, India realized its serious weakness in the army.

While writing this, I have recalled my college memories that what have said my Pro Jothimani, (Nehru Memorial College. Puthanampatti. Trichy District) a veteran Congress man, who has with his favorite Kadhar shirt. He said that our soldiers wore an ordinary canvases in the Himalayas also with lake of military equipment and fought against the Chinese. These things are happened because we have to intrude a war with in the short span of sixteen years after getting the freedom.

Being realized the serious weakness of the army and have the coercion to strengthen its power India accepted the USSR helps to accelerative the army. Not only had this had it asked the various technical knowledge in the agriculture, industries and so on.

Even, though India has discomfiture in this war, according to statesmen, there are some benefits in this.

With these discomfiture experiences India has adopted the new logistic and has doubled the military power in the next two years. This is an open secret that the India have achieved all these goodness with the grace of the USSR.

In definite that our India have gained all the prosperities as from the Pokhran to Koodangulam only with the help of the USSR.

While, studying the Stone Age we have to see that the human beings are not stayed permanently in place.
Even though in the Neolithic were settled in the permanent place and engaged in the agricultural activities
for their living they have to compulsion to an ambulant for various reasons like famine, natural calamities and for the better amenities.

This is an indisputable fact that from the beginning of the Stone Age even still the human beings are moving place to place.

They have migrated to the many places, in the Continentals and in particular they have to select abundant places where they in the Western countries,
USA and in Eastern countries like Malaysia, Singapore. Some of them have to send for an indenture laborers.

In this session we have to see about Fiji is situated on the east of Australia in the South Pacific Ocean with more than 300 scattered islands.

More than 100 islands are inhabitants. Its total area is 7,056 square miles. The main inhabitants of this land are Indians and Fijians.

According to Mrs.Thulasi Gopal a famous writer, who has dwelled in Fiji for more than seven years writes in her travelogue
that the major industry of that island is farming the sugar cane plantations.
The British East India Company needs more and more laborers to build their colonies where they hold two third of the world.
It would be learnt that the Sun never sets in the British Empire.

In the beginning of the seventeen and nineteenth centuries there found new place, islands were to live and govern.
Fiji became a British colony in 1874.

Fiji an island were contained more than 300 islands in it. Along with only 100s have an evidence that to trace the habitants for living.
According to Thulasi Gopal a famous travelogue writer , who dwelled in Fiji for more than seven years writes in her book that the major industry of that
island is farming sugar cane plantations.

This clearly shows that the large number of the Indians were used in to this island as an indenture workers in to this sugar cane plantations.
We have enough evidence about the migration of Tamils from the South.

This will help to the readers to understand that why the British have deployed Indians to Fiji?

Governor Sir Arthur Gordon served in Mauritius and Trinidad. He had a lot of experiences in this lands. He transferred to Fiji as Governor.
He said that he not like to interfere the customs of the native. He also served in Fiji.
He further added that Indian labors are hardworking people and they do not demand more wages.
Therefore, in his view, in a highly populated country like India, where there was unemployment and poverty and which was under
British rule it was easy to get cheap labour.

I am told all facilities are available and temples are maintained in a highly holy atmosphere,
they do have not any problem to celebrate the festivals as we do here and also
meet our people at frequent intervals to interact with them and exchange their views
leading a homely atmosphere, except for the feeling that they are on a different soil.

We can celebrate any festival by pooja at home and preparing and sharing traditional 'bakshaNam's with friends. In temples

situated in cold places, the poojAris wear woolen cloths and socks to guard them from the cold weather! All the temple

premises are spic and span. Our people adopt well to the new environment and maintain our traditions as far as they can.

Many ladies wearing pants and Tshirts instead of sarees. But their 'bakthi' is pure. Hats off to them!

The Arkatis the British company’s agents painted rosy pictures about Fiji to the poor laborers who lived in the British colonies and enticed to take them to the Fiji islands. In this way they have succeeded to bring the cheap laborer to their sugar cane fields.
Notably these laborers who moved to these unknown islands from their kith and kin have crushed in the unknown soils with harsh and cheap wages.

Mr.Bala Ganapathy Tamil Advisor to Fiji government gives the following data.

Fiji total population is 6,78000. In this Madrassis 1,16000. About 70000 or 80000 Tamils. This is an approximate figure in 1995.The request of the Tamilnadu government has refused, by the Fiji and it does not give any original figure of the total population of Tamils.

An interesting notes while seeing about the Tamil teaching in Suva the capital of Fiji.
At the earlier time, say during the beginning of the indenture there were no schools for Indian laborers children. Of course, some Christian missionaries started schools for the children but this has taught only in English. At this time some Hindu missionaries and many interested social organizers come forward to teach Tamil languages to the children.

Sri Swami Manoharanandha head of the Arya Samaj propagated the religion including the Indian education.
Mr. K.S. Raman built a Tamil school in Rakki Rakki district. Sadhu Kuppusamy worked in the year 1921 for four years .His first student were Doraisamy,Kuppan,Perumal Chetty,Raj Gounder and Ramasami Nidu. Mr. Sanjeevi Reddy in 1921 donated 5 acres land to construct a school buildings. In this school Srimaan. Manikka Reddy father kanna Kanniappa Reddy and Singiri Naidu worked as teacher. Tamil and Telugu languages taught in this school.

At least in all western countries there is freedom of Religion. We can follow what ever we choose. It may cost more. LOL.

in toronto, only thanks to our sri lankan cousins, tamil is a credited language in the school system.

the classes are held in the weekends, and is considered part of the curriculum, for which the student gets a credit.

the fact is, it is 100% attended only by sri lankans, even though the text books are all imported from india. none of the tambram kids, attended it.

afaik, tambrams constitute more than 50% of the indian based tamil population here. once upon a time we were close to 100%, but now we see many other communities here. but we do not mix. we have the association called MAACA, and the others which includes all the other groups (castes and religions) have thier own club. the sri lankans have their own several associations.

the only time we all get together is the variuous templs, the srilankan grocery store, video store or the music/dance classes.

Tambrams from Tamil Nadu seem to be different. Some how the cultural, and language keeps them apart from other Indians. After being in this site I also feels that "guilt" or superiority makes them isolate themselves from others.
IMO, for people other than from Tamil nadu this is not a problem.
We are so adapt at mixing that we feel privileged to have friends from all walks of life, may it be PIO from various part of world, or American from all races and ethnic spectrum.

The 14th March 1927 gets the importance of the Fiji Tamil education history. Because, this was the day where the T.I.S.I. Sangam have started the first Tamil school where inside the compound of the Subramaniyam temple in Nandi.

Swami Avinashananda’s role in Tamil language education:

Need to say the tireless efforts of the Swamiji’s to proliferate the Tamil medium in to the South Indian schools and this would insist the government to pass an ordinance about the Tamil language. The government in compulsion to carry out the Mathews committee recommendations because the tireless efforts given by the Swamiji and the T.I.S.I. Sangam.

According to the Mathews report in those schools where a majority of students were Non-Hindi speaks English should be the medium of educational and the second language education could be in any Indian languages. The government accepts the recommendations of Mathews educational committee and introduced ordinance NO 48 of 1937.

T.I.S.I. Sangam (India Sanmarga Ikya Sangam) role in Tamil language education:

This is not an exaggeration that T.I.S.I. Sangam played the major role in the developments to the Tamil education and the Tamil culture in Fiji.
The Sangam has rendered its service to the Tamil education till on this date where from the year 1926, 12 January where Sadhu Swami founded the organization at then.

I have given glimpses of the style of living in the US. I am sure you can read Tamil!
Tamils can live happily there but have to work hard. Life is not easy in the US as many of us think. :ballchain:

I do not mean about the work culture. I am pretty sure that Indians have to work wherever they are
and they are capable of delivering the goods because of their inborn talent to many any situation and
also the work pattern because of their abundant knowledge. I only meant that if they have settled
with all the facilities, they would be able to live happily by interacting with our people in States as
if they are in their motherland. But I am aware of the distant factor between work places where
Tamilians work. But in some areas, where Tamilians are housed in a colony like area, they would be
able to have exchange of information and I am told that all our food articles are sold, perhaps at a
higher rate. My relatives are California, Buffalo and New York.
