Can we buy second hand dolls

Hi , in our home there is no tradition of keeping Golu. I checked with Grandma and she told it used to be there but for the last few generation because of poverty we didn't do and it simply continued that way. We are not that rich and all now , but I want to follow the tradition and keep golu and paati also told nanna vaingo..

Now , coming to the question.. the dolls are sema costly now.. I also see a post on olx , that PPL are selling golu dolls .. is it ok to buy used dolls and keep ?? My idea is to buy few dolls new and rest buy used.. apdi panlama .

Please periyava sollungo

Hey, this might be a bit redundant now, but hopefully, it helps you for the next Navratri.

Though the dolls are not idols and not energized per se, it still would be good to wash them (if they are not wood) with Perumal theertham or Ganga jalam (or any Bhagwan theertham tbh) and dilute it with normal water. You can also chant or play some mantras in the background if you want.

Also, just a tip: start small and build your Golu collection. Most families have had their dolls passed down for generations, and therefore, they have quite a lot, but since you're just starting out, it would be better, IMHO, to start with a couple of good quality pieces, even if it's just a few. There are many who do this online that you can take inspiration from. Kuttia irundhalumein nanna vekkalam, it's all about how creative you can get.

Hope you are able to revive this tradition this coming Navratri!

All dolls are hand me downs, either from the arcticians, shopkeeper. or previous owners. Some are made in China, mostly made by non-Brahmins, and non-Hindus. So do not go digging into the origins of the dolls.

Golu was established on the occasion of Navratri to foster communal bonds via shared cultural practices.

Honestly, I wont buy a second hand doll of anykind.
Reason is we dont know who the previous owner was and how attached that person was to his or her objects and sometimes the residual energy of the previous owner could still linger in dolls.
Its not a haunting but just residual energy.

I am sorry I am not into Mumbo-Jumbo's. Please do not encourage superstations. WE can scare anyone with half truths and lies. Particularly when comes from a trusted friend.

No energy or no karma is attached to any object. If you really believe it, please prove it. A transplanted body part does not bring the Karma's of the doner.
Just because someone eats egg, they do not become Chicken.

Biomemory and residual energy is different from Karma.

I quite agree with this partially. I feel that at times we as humans like to blame external circumstances and would therefore find comfort in rituals like the above. And, who knows, maybe there might be some merit to it?

I believe this might be a good read, regardless of what side of the spectrum you are a part.

After a point IMO it does not matter whether it is real or not, but rather one's belief. The power that one's mind has to make anything mundane and boring into something far more exciting has been proven by many. Do what makes you happy and gives you peace, and do everything in moderation.
