The surest and fail proof way to generate love is not expect anything back in a relationship, not even love.

It is very easy to talk of love:
Poets have written, movies are made, and people kill for it.
According to wiki:

The English word "love" can refer to a variety of different feelings, states, and attitudes that ranges from interpersonal affection ("I love my mother") to pleasure ("I loved that meal"). It can refer to an emotion of a strong attraction and personal attachment. It can also be a virtue representing human kindness, compassion, and affection—"the unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another". It may also describe compassionate and affectionate actions towards other humans, one's self or animals.

Ancient Greeks identified four forms of love: kinship or familiarity (in Greek, storge), friendship (philia), sexual and/or romantic desire (eros), and self-emptying or divine love (agape). Modern authors have distinguished further varieties of romantic love. Non-Western traditions have also distinguished variants or symbioses of these states. This diversity of uses and meanings combined with the complexity of the feelings involved makes love unusually difficult to consistently define, compared to other emotional states.

Love in its various forms acts as a major facilitator of interpersonal relationships and, owing to its central psychological importance, is one of the most common themes in the creative arts. Love may be understood as a function to keep human beings together against menaces and to facilitate the continuation of the species.

So what is this love that the op wants to discuss (or generate).
It is overrated and misused word at best.

Dear Sravna,

This is the ideal type of Love that hardly exists among humans.

I have only seen this type of Selfless not expecting any Love in return in our canine friends.

Dear Renuka,

It is extremely difficult but possible. If you indeed try to practice it there is no better solution to all the problems.

Even Canine love is expecting returns. It is easy to adopt a dog, and for the dog to accept the new master. You must have seen so many episodes of Cesar Millan's Leader of the Pack.
And here’s the bad news for all those dog lovers who are just certain that Fluffy loves them back. There was no correlation between the “perceived emotional closeness” subscale of the MDORS questionnaire and the dogs’ behavior in the strange situation. The researchers put it bluntly, writing, “there was no evidence to support the view that because a person has a strong emotional bond to their dog, their dog is similarly attached to them.”

Jacob loved Bella, but Bella chose Edward. As with paranormal teenage romance novels, so too with life. You can not simply love a dog so much that it will be forced to love you back.
Does Your Dog Love You Back? | The Thoughtful Animal, Scientific American Blog Network

In religion, unconditional love is thought to be part of The Four Loves; affection, friendship, romance, and unconditional. In ethology, or the study of animal behavior, unconditional love would refer to altruism which in turn refers to the behavior by individuals that increases the fitness of another while decreasing the fitness of the individual committing the act. In psychology, unconditional love refers to a state of mind in which one has the goal of increasing the welfare of another, despite any evidence of benefit for oneself.

True. The main purpose of all activies of living beings is only to facilitate the continuation of the species. Each specie adopt a particular method to achieve this goal.

Due to inherent limitation, the English term "Love" is inadequate to express the real meaning of the word. How ever, as per my understanding, in human specie, love is the basic emotional instinct kindled by desire."Real Love" knows no bounds and does not insist on conditions, otherwise it becomes infatuation carried away by unreasoned passion. In addition love is also deep commitment,a binding factor in running a family.

Love is "not having to say I love you ' :-)

That is real cop out. Yes I agree that it is quoted by older folks, but it also means you are talking it for granted. In earlier times it was acceptable or the norm but it is not valid in the present days.

Love must be expressed, and often. It can not be empty words you must be really heartfelt.

very intelligent quotes!!

I like the word FACILITATE. u facilitate the dog ( for example ) to eat, survive and clean itself in your home, it will reciprocate by hugging its owner.

but if let us say u facilitate your lover ( a GF / WIFE/ BF/HUSBAND ) during her bad times, there is a very high chance that she/he will stick to you for the next season.

Love is "not having to say I love you ' :-)

Thats like being taken for granted. If we love someone say it.

I dont feel taking others for granted is right by saying "Love is not having to say I love you"

Love is meant to be expressed in Thought,Word and Deed.

After all even religion advocates coordination of Thought,Word and Deeds.

So Think "I Love You", Say "I Love You" and Do "I Love You".

The problem is we Indians tend to keep verbally silent when it comes to love..

and end up singing:

Hamein Tumse Mohabbat Hai, Bataana Bhi Nahi Aata
I am in love with you... but I can't even tell you...

Define love. The sincerity of the phrase is strengthened by knowing what love is, and what loving someone means to you. Determine the difference between love, infatuation and lust, and make sure it's genuine love that you feel for this person.

Feel it. There will come a point when you know what you feel for your boyfriend or girlfriend had moved from friendship, to like, through infatuation, and into romantic love. When you're sure you've crossed that threshold, that's the time to express your feelings. If you say it because you think you should, or because it's expected—and you're not there yet—it will come across as insincere.

Make eye contact. Making eye contact not only shows sincerity and communicates trust, it's a delight to look into your partner's eyes when you first say "I love you." It will be a moment you will both always remember. Even though there are probably a few inches between your faces, it should feel like there is nothing between yourselves, not even air.
Holding hands as you tell them you love them can also communicate sincerity and trust.

Say it at an appropriate time. Time the statement in a way that will make both you and the recipient most comfortable.
If you're in a private place and there's not much background noise, keep your volume low; don't whisper unless you bring your lips to his or her ear, which can also be a very intimate way to express your love.

If you want to tell your partner how you feel when you're in a public place, it's up to you whether you want to pull the person aside, or say it in front of friends or even strangers. It depends on your loved one's personality, and your own personality. Some will find it terribly romantic to be told they're loved across a room full of people; others may find it mortifying.

Say it without expecting anything in return. It is nerve-wracking to tell someone that you love them if you're going to wait anxiously for their response. If you truly feel it, then say it with no expectations of a response. Your intention can be to tell the person how you feel, with the hope of making them happy and showing them that they are valued. So say what you feel, and if they love you, too, they'll let you know in their own way and in their own time.

Be creative. Say "I love you" in another language. Write it into a poem or even a haiku. If you want to be romantic, spell it out with rose petals on the bedroom floor. Write it in code, like a Vigènere cipher. Say it in little ways, like post-it notes in unexpected places, and express it in every way you can.

Back up your words. Don't just say it, show them that you really do love them. Saying "I love you" without showing it is, in a way, a lie. Express your love in action as well as in words.

one way to generate love is avoiding hate. people might at least like and even love you in extreme conditions . Most are uptight about expressing emotion such as love and take it for granted from parents , spouse or children. as for others put you hands in your pockets and think of uncle sam as advised by Gen Manekshaw to his troops marching into bangladesh

Somehow the best type of love a female can experience is where there is a slight borderline dependence and obsession shown by the male who is a "child man"..the types that are grown man but still having a child in them which need attention and love to give attention.

These types of males never take the person they love for granted but at the same time its their biggest "weakness" if they fall in the hands of a manipulative female..but with the right female who can love him the way he wants..this union of hearts is heaven.

There is child in every man and who would not like attention from ladies . Only some cannot reciprocate to the dismay of some
Man comes as a package with positive traits and many failings. It is upto to the ladies to find love or hate. It is upto a person to find love and union of hearts or hate and spit on the sidewalk on seeing the man
