Each and Every single practise of the Vedas has a hidden meaning. That is the beauty of it all.
Many have attempted to interpret the Vedas to suit their convenience.
But, all of have miserably failed.
The True Meaning of the Vedas is hidden and is understandable only to the sadhaka by experience. Few such ones exist today.So, most of it is a ritualistic affair. Yet, the power remains so, in it's full form.

*** If a person yells at you for following rules, it is his/her personal problem and lack of maturity...I know of North Karnataka women from the backward castes, who do not tread into Temples.
I asked one woman entrepreneur running a small garment-manufacturing unit that exports their producst and she replied in kannada " for us, it is our village deity that we are supposed to worship. she gives us whatever is needed for our life. we are happy with this. this is how our religious habits have been defined by our in-laws and this is what i am supposed to follow.
we should not enter that territory where many things are not known to us and land in trouble "
Even in Tirupathi, Kasi, Kanchipuram,...etc holy places, there are many who do not visit the sacred temples daily.
There are many, in these very places, who visit daily.
So...nett-nett, i guess, non-controversially, we may sum it up as
" God permits near himself the ones he decides to, irrespective of caste, creed and colour. The rest have to wait for the permit license from God "
