Blue Bell Tunicate ...a very rare and beautiful flower.

Temples and thunderstorms.

In olden days, no building would be taller than the local temple. The kalasam kept on the top of the temple acted as the lightning conductor.

Our ancients used the same word 'bijli' to denote current and lightning. So long befo
re Benjamin Franklin proved-risking his life-that lightnings were electrical in nature, our ancestors knew that fact but made no great fuss about it.

There is an old adage which says
"Do not live in a place which has no temple".

With no temple kalasam to arrest the lightning, it can land anywhere on the village / town.

The palm leaves are spiked and face skywards. The trees are very tall.

Small wonder that lightnings more often than not lands on palm trees - leaving them partly or fully charred!

STRANGE BUT TRUE.

Jewel made by air and water!

Billions of snow crystals fall from the sky. Each of them has a flawless hexagonal

design - resembling a pretty piece of platinum and diamond jewelry!

But no two are identical! Hard to believe? But it is true!

Due to the crystallization of water vapor in the air into geometric forms, the shape

of the crystal formed depends on the temperature of the air.

Crystals in the shape of needles and rods are formed in the cooler and higher

altitudes where the water vapor is scarce. Complex and beautiful hexagonal

crystals are formed in the warmer and lower altitudes, where water vapor is

abundant.

Snow flakes are formed when these crystals fall into warm lower atmosphere -

melt partly and bunch together.
dear VR !

we have experinced it duringour present at UK during the snow(during feb/mar) and the rain in apr2012.

Strange but true

Laws of limits of size ( part # 1 )

In Science Fiction we come across giant ants, spiders and many other

insects and animals.

The are pictured as the products of genetic mutations and modifications.

But mercifully the size of every living creature on earth is limited by

immutable laws!

Producing an ant the size of a horse or a man the size of mouse will

create new problems for these weird creatures by altering the ratio of

their body mass and surface area.

This example will make it clear!

When the side of a cube is doubled, its volume and mass increase

eightfold.

(Original volume was a x a x a and the new volume is 2a x 2a x 2a)

But its surface area increases only four times.

(original surface area was 6 x a x a; the new surface area is 6 x 2a x 2a )

So the rate of heat lost through the skin will be halved (4/8 = 1/2)!

Such a change will result in overheating of the body.

Conversely if the size is halved, the body heat will be lost twice as fast!

The tiny birds have very little body mass compared to the body surface

area. They do not freeze in the cold mainly because they have a warm

coat of feathers and spend their entire lives eating high energy food!

very nice explanation mathsillustration

We are supposed to "say it with flowers"!

But do we know that each flower stands for some emotion or feeling?

With a little background knowledge, we say say what we wanted to say

perfectly with the flowers without uttering a word.

So now to the flowers and their significances...

The goodness of flowers gave rise to this therapy!!!

Aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy is the art of healing using the aromatic oils of the plants. This art was known to the ancient Egyptians, Romans and Greeks. Skilled men and women used these oils to cure a number of ailments and also in the day to day beauty treatments.

Romans smeared sweet smelling oils lavishly on their body before an elaborate bath.

Greeks believed that the oil of each plant gave them the virtue of the God associated with that plant. Poppy gave them courage in a war while the violet had a calming effect on the mind.

Aromatherapists believe that mind plays a major role in many of the body ailments. So with the powerful fragrance, we can alter the emotional state of the mind–thus opening the way for a beneficial cure.

Aromatherapy is said to be very effective in the stress- related ailments such as asthma, head-aches and depression. Patients with skin ailments, respiratory diseases ,digestive problems and even back-aches respond well to aromatherapy.

The oil extracted from the plants are administered in carefully measured quantities. They are either inhaled or gently rubbed into the skin.

The Medical Fraternity has not endorsed aromatherapy. But common folks are practicing the Aromatherapy. We take a bouquet of fragrant flowers to cheer up a person who is ill.
