One piece wonder dhothi!

Finally, it also reveals character, or at least, behaviour. When angered, you roll it up, ready for a fight. (At least, that’s what Kollywood seems to suggest.) But when you meet someone older or of a higher stature — a star, a politician, or your amma/appa — you immediately roll it down in obeisance.

The orthodoxy says brahmachari "need not" wear PK and so, if he does so (wears PK) - except on his marriage day - it is against the sAstra injunctions!

It is a sastric injunction indeed. But it had a context. Those were days when a brahmachari used to go to a gurukul for studying as a young boy. He did not require a 8 cubit long dhoti. It was redundant for a young boy. So he had to wear just a 4 cubit mundu which was more than enough for his purpose. When he left the Gurukul the boys usually got married at the very young age when they started wearing PK.

Now that the times have changed, the marriageable age has changed and the sartorial tastes have changed, the sasteric injunction has to be rewritten to fit the times.
