. There is another Aanamalai near Pollachi why it got that name I wonder ! ...
The shape of the mountain viewed from the balcony of my dad's village house resembles a huge elephant lying down.
My dad was a very revered physician in Anaimalai village for nearly four decades. :hail:

We siblings had school education in that village! :)

My sister VR ji has written about an international essay competition held for medical students, in Think or sink thread.

The prizes will be distributed in a function to be held on April 3rd, this year (Centenary year of my dear dad) at Puducherry.

Behold a rock that naturally looks like an Elephant’s face!? The collection elephant rock formations you see above is found on the island of

Heimaey which means Home Island (in Iceland). In a town named “Vestmannaeyjar Archipelago” with around 4,500 residents. Even though

they have a population of 4,500, they’re considered the most populated island of the Vestmannaeyjar chain. Heimaey is also home to Eldfell

(Mountain of Fire) which is 660 feet high Active volcano which is the main cause for Elephant rock’s face formation. The active volcano, Eldfell

would occasionally erupt without warning and the residence would have to use a tactic of collecting sea water to cool down the running lava.

Hence, weird rock formations can be found across the island. Maybe we can find a Tiger faced rock pretty soon.

We have a Yanai placed on the banks of river vaigai and this area is Yanai Kal There is a bus stop Yanai Kozha (Pipe) because of its huge size! The inclined path where the strechers are rolled instead of being carried in Hosiptals is called Yani Pathai!! I remember there used to be place called Yanai Gowni or elephant Gate near Mint in Madras!

I have spent a few days with my Mama who started his caarrier in Cinchona Estate as a chemist in Anamalais!

Training / domesticating wild animals must be stopped;

Concept of vegetarianism and thought of self content must spread among masses

As Kanchi Mahapaeriava says frequently "Adakkama irukkanum Kanakka irukkanum"

If we lead lives of self sufficiency without giving room to luxury / modern consumerism most of the present day to day problems can be solved easily. Will be able to save better for a better tomorrow.

Unnecessary natural resource exploitation is the prime factor which precipitated the inflation. Havent heard of cancer in india but now prevalent apart from life style diseases. Air, Water, Food everything is poisoned. A decade back water is free and now paying Rs. 30 for a can of 20 L for drinking. In immediate future we may have to pay money for breathing good air if the present so called technology based industries continue to sprout within India.

By gods grace agriculture (without fertilizer) should flourish; Interlinking of rivers within india should be made the prime objective of the govt. More rivers and lakes mush be created. Air and Water pollution must be curtailed. No need for industries or infrastructure; Agrarian economy should be give importance. This should be the foremost goal which will give happy, healthy and better life for the present and future generation of India.

May Siva opens the thought process among the masses; Loka Samastha Sukino Bhavanthu; Shreyo Bhooya Sakala Jananam; Yella Uyirgalum Inbutru Vazhga; Vazhga Valamudan Vazhga Vaiyagam;

Of temple elephants and a Mail Online story riddled with errors and lies

By Prem Panicker

“At the entrance to the temple is Devi. She has been chained to this spot for 35 years. As a female, she is never taken to festivals, so has never, ever moved. Not one inch. Prof Nameer has asked the temple leaders (politicians, businessmen) to allow the animals to be walked for one hour a day; they refused.”

This is just so sad.

No, it is beyond sad – it is horrific. It is inhuman. And the fact that this scene plays out at the entrance to Guruvayur, one of India’s richest, most famous temples, multiplies the horror manifold.

Or it would if the passage from an article by Liz Jones for the Daily Mail were true. It is not.

Guruvayur temple has two entrances. The main entrance faces east; the only other gate opens to the west. At neither of these two entrances is an elephant – of whatever sex – chained. Ever. For any length of time, let alone for decades at a stretch.
The passage also nods at another trope — of the pervasive Indian misogyny that extends even to its interactions with animals. Devi, we learn, is doomed to spend her life tied outside a temple she, being female, cannot enter.
