Dear TBS Sir,

Only all the crew in the air craft were women!

Here is the news:

Flight AI 187 will be the first of the 13 all-woman crew flights scheduled for operation by Air India on March 8, 2011,

across its domestic and international network, to mark International Women’s Day. In this file photo, the all-woman

crew in the Chennai-Colombo-Chennai sector pose for photograph as part of the International Women's Day celebrations

I have seem passenger become mesmerized when the pretty air-hostesses come near.

Think of all these lovely and talented women in a small enclosed space.

The mesmerizing effect will be even more pronounced. :loco:

Points which rose in my mind after seeing the live music...

1. Why did the ladies have to change their dress during the music recital.

It is customary to change the dress during a dance recital but during a vocal music concert...

2. If young women in the prime of their youth find it so difficult to reach the swaras in higher octave

how did M.S.S. Amma sing with so much ease and grace even in her ripe old age???

3. Some of the girls had a difference of opinion with their sruti. In a program of this importance it can't be overlooked.

4. May be if these girls had paid as much attention in reproducing the musical magic of Smt. M.S.S.

instead of paying attention to their dress, hair style and accessories, they could have given a better performance.

5. The secret of M.S.S.'s music is her bhakti bhaavam which sadly lacked very badly in this concert.

ORIGINAL is /was always ORIGINAL...

But nothing wrong in some people making attempt to re-produce..what MS did...

visa,

at the beginning of this season, in the hindu, there was an interview with sudha raghunathan or bombay jayashree. or someone at the top of the pyramid...

the gist of it all, according to this female was..that women had to take care not only on the talent front but also on the sari front too.

just as carefully they plan their entire season's selection, taking care not to repeat the songs from one concert to another, as sometimes they have the same or bulk of the same audience, who soon show displeasure at being forced to hear a second time.

Same too goes for the saris. These are noted, and if there are repeats, then this becomes a matter of mischievous kisu kisus. No kidding.

Ranjani and gayathri have gone on record, that they coordinate their saris. If one wears a blue with yellow border, the other one mirrors it, ie yellow sari with blue border

Atleast this is another area, where by default, men get a break.ha haa.

Seriously visa, we may not be far away, when at the end of a concert, the female singer, may have to spend a few minutes to praise the saree designer – sabayasachi or satya paul or ritu kumar. Stranger things indeed have happened. Eh!

Dear Mr. Kunjuppu,

You are right. During the time of M.S.S. and M.L.V they were called music concerts or recitals.

Now they are called musical shows which need to give feast for the eyes in addition to the ears.

I think I have to adapt to the 21 st century as soon as possible. :decision:

Ranjani and Gayatri use the same color combination without making it look like a uniform.

In fact I like that concept a lot. :)

Dear Kunjuppu Sir,

Thanks for the link! I enjoyed it well. Special appreciation to the tabla player in the Krishna Gana sabha program. :yo:

Dear Sis,

1. You are supposed to be good in :spy: work! How did you miss the two different sabha banners?

2. M S Amma was a 'gandharva sthree'!

3. They are good enough for group singing imho. :grouphug:

4. They all know 'aaL paadhi; aadai paadhi'!

5. Advancement in age only will bring more bhakthi bhAvam. Have you heard M S Amma's 'maragatha vadivu' song

which was her very first one recorded?

Dear Raji,

May be I overlooked the two different banners.

I will withdraw my comment about their change of dress.

Was Smt. M.S.S born as a ghandahrva sthree or did she become one?

If group singing is going to ruin the show, then each one can sing one song solo.

"AAL paathi AADAI paathi" is old fashioned now.

"Paatu paathi dance meethi" is the in-thing now!!!

I never knew that bhakti is related to age

Sringara rasam may be related to age ...but bhakti???

How many child bhaktas we have heard about!!!

I am sure they get enough practice at home!!! :)
No one is going to like me or call me a good lady ever ...but I have to tell the truth.
The naadham of an instrument played by a male artist - be it a mrudungam, gatam, kanjira,
is completely different. They seem to have undertones and under-undertones that create a magic which I do not find in the female artists.

My replies:

1. Dear Sis! Not may be... You have! :D

2. Thank you!

3. M S Amma is said to be born as a 'gandharva sthree'.

4. I don't think it ruined the show! It sounds much better than the 'pancha rathna' rendition!!

5. Singing with straight face will be too boring! Little action adds 'pep' to the show! Right?

6. Bhakthi might come in young age to a 'born bhakthA' only. For normal human beings like us, it develops with age.

For example a few songs which I sang with ease during younger days, gives a choking feeling, as I grow old! It is my

experience. Also, I am unable to sing a few touchy songs now!

good lady visa,

the women, are they not used to giving it good to the menfolk at home (mrs K is pretty handy with the rolling pin..ouch!!).

i would have thought they would have developed a good handle and a strong wrist, all key ingredients for sound sharp percussion. n'est pas?
