An excellent post with worldly wisdom for the young and the old
!.As events happen, responses have to be finely tuned for good results based on experience which comes with age
2. contentment and acceptance of self and enjoying this beautiful life is a good philosophy
3. time -it passes so fast . if we can contribute to society good in some way in our short life span ,we can leave a good legacy behind for our our children to emulate
4health - we can do what we can to remain healthy . what happens who knows?
5mind cannot all the time be kept occupied with positive thoughts. have you not seen many elderly talking to themselves ?. some require guardian angels to protect them as I have said in another thread
6. you have referred to ravana regarding importance of time . one good way is to act if there is a choice between action and no action . even sometimes action sometimes lead to not so good results overall a man of action is preferable to status quo ist
Dear Sri "Krish",
I appreciate your well thought out followup post.
Yes I have observed some old friends talking to themselves. All human beings yearn for company to share their thoughts and experiences. We are basically social animals. But when we become old, we become invisible to others around us ! Rather respectfully avoided. The reason is that most of us of older generation live in the past, like the good old "one rupee" coin which has no value today. Fortunately we have a wonderful medium called information technology, which has openedup a new world for humanity. Older generation should update their basic knowledge of using this medium and engage themselves to enjoy this treasure trove of knowledge available to us.
All said, we should understand there is no text book solution for leading a happy life. Each one has to find his/her own path to lead a happier life with in the given parameters to them.

Dear Brahmanyan Ji,
Yesterday when I was at the gym I overheard a conversation between a old man(in his 60's) and a young man(in his late 20's).
The old man was talking about latest gadgets etc and the young man was saying that he still uses his old type of handphone cos he does not need a latest gadget as for now.
Then the old man said 'For a young man like you..surprisingly you are not tech Savvy and do not keep up with trends..you seem to think like an old man and not like a young person"
I almost started laughing cos the young man is a good 6 feet 2 tall with a well built muscular body and the old man is a medium height, balding, poor muscle tone with a bulging abdomen and the young man was surprised to hear what that old man said so loudly in the gym!LOL
I was wondering instead of admiring that a young man did not desire what he did not need this old man was calling him not tech savvy!LOL
So not all oldies live in the past..some are actually living in the future!
Dear Renu,......... So not all oldies live in the past..some are actually living in the future!
you are absolutely correct . many oldies are keeping pace with technology and are far more tech savvy than many youngsters.Dear Brahmanyan Ji,

Many also have a modern mind shedding their traditional prejudices and also have a liberal mindset .which children find difficult to accept .
these are a danger for the younger lot who do not know how to cope with them . they defeat the youngsters in their own games and set terms and exacting standards which many youngsters are not able to meet.
many times as a senior citizen , I out think and out operate so that I am far ahead in my actions.
so slowly youngsters hide from me because I can take over their work, adopt hobbies which are of interest to them and also go to pubs ,discos and have a wild night out.
Last new year eve ,only I got high ,my children were teetotallers.during diwali , I light crackers and besides illuminating my flat a week in advance. my children say no to crackers sleep upto 8 am on diwali. They are unable to match my zeal for good life as I percieve it.
sometimes they fear they might run into me -a wild senior citizen painting the town red. They ask in advance when I will be in town so that they can take some precautionary measures. lol
we refuse to be cowed down by threats of RIPDear Renu,
Some want to 'enjoy life to the fullest' (the words in ' ' found in many of the profiles in Tamil matrimony site ) before they :rip: !
Good :decision: , right??
shed your inhibitions
madam ,we never can feel that way . a few last flings while we oldies are burning our candle at both ends and living it up .Promise we shall redouble our efforts also to find GAs to cover our risks . we will also tape our mouth so that nobody finds out we are talking to ourself when we go for walks. still if we end up at kilpauk ,take care .lol. I am going to a movie 'two states' now.. will tell you about TBs falling for punjabi boy.byeI am not threatening anyone! :nono:
All oldies are entitled to enjoy anything, get into any sort of problem,
end up talking to themselves and finally go in search of a G A!! :fish2:
sarang jiand that punjabi boy opined recently that any intelligent girl turns him on. poor tambram wife is in for trouble. hope the punjabi boy stays clear of this forum for obvious reasons.
a little bit of gossip about amarindar singh and his opponent jatley.
singh taunted jaitely that he is an outsider in amritsar and is trying to become a local by buying a house. jaitley retorted - i have bought a house in amritsar, but you are buying houses in neighbouring country.
(amarindar has a girl friend from pakistan who visits him frequently; he is separated from his wife because of this affair).
I think the old lady is paying a reasonable price for companionship . you are probably not aware of the huge amounts the well off people are paying at their homes for assisted living .even with that many cannot get good care givers . some disadvantaged ladies complain that while helping to bathe soap is often goes into their eyes while being given bath. many care givers harshly push food down the throats of these oldies to save on time instead of helping to eat on their own in plates and with spoons. which is time consuming. there is some callousness in behaviour of these care givers . they lack simple concern for the oldies.have you seen the rates of home nursing care. it is 600 to 800 rupees a day. those who end up in wheel chairs ,it is only sufferingA lonely lady known to us had an angel guardian (lady) who asked for a monthly salary of Rs. 6,000/ + food.
She was just giving company to the lonely lady who had to cook food for both of them! So the  was just in :couch2:
it is election fever in chennai .voting is scheduled for tomorrow . suddenly Ash and kunjuppu ji have dropped out .They are apparently practising mouna vratham. Even you have become conciliatory . you refuse to raise to any bait . Sravs thinks probably his is a hopeless cause .It refuses to snow in chennai.BTW it suddenly snowed in kedarnath Delhi is getting unexpected rains in summer .or everyone is growing older losing the capacity to fight.lolForum has become unusually quiet these days..cant someone start some controversial thread and let everyone become active again?
General Discussion has become inactive..only Chit Chat section seems active.
Lets hope it snows in Chennai today..then forum will be active again cos we know who prayed for a cooler weather!LOL

when we were in school , our teacher would identify some as trouble makers and make them sit in the first bench near them so that they can keep an eye on them . if anything untoward happens, they would be the first suspects to be grilled .If I want to start controversy I still can but since elections fever is on..let everyone vote before reading any controversial stuff otherwise some might get nightmares!LOL

in this forum , I do not know the approach followed . lol
OK RRjiDear Renu,
How did you forget the words like 'God' or 'brahmin' in the title of the thread?
Such threads are sure to get five star status quickly!!
There was a thread 'Is Lord Shiva a non-brahmin?'
Your son has to invite. Whom to call depends on his budget. Ram and I invited our siblings and also the relatives living in Sing. Chennai
during the pooja time (year 1985!!!). We presented sarees and dhotis to them. Then gave a dinner party to friends in the evening,
in the terrace covered with shamiana - food ordered form Saravana bhavan!
Thanks for your replyMy answers in blue. :typing:
1. for gruhapravesam ritual for which you have posted a link ,
Oh is it? I don't remember when and where!
2. the ritual specified -are they the same for all Tamil brahmins. Are rituals for iyengar sect different
from iyer sect .
They are different for Iyers and Iyengars.
3. Do iyengars do ganapathy homam.?
Sorry, I don't think so! Actually :noidea:
4. I need this info for a grihapravesam for my sons flat . He is an iyengar married to vadama iyer.
what should he do . ?. I am personally not very ritualistic
Your son should consult a sAsthrigaL and arrange for the function, if he wants rituals. What else?
5. The invitation should be in whose name -mine ,my sons or my sambandhi.
Obviously in your son's name because the flat is his!
6. who should invite whom for the function.? very ticklish .

prasad jiYou can include us anytime. I am just kidding.
We invite our friends and do serve food, nothing elaborate.
It should be upto the person buying the flat, both sets of parents are guests.
You can't invite people because you are a GUEST!........... most welcome to join my function
I promptly took your suggestion and decided to be guest .
all of you in TB forum are my friends and we keep a open house for all.
the function is in bangalore
