Hindi has been taken as the national language, because of circumstances prevailed sooner after Independence. Though freedom fighters from South did their part & contributed to the freedom of the country. yet majority were from northern states as of even to-day due to geographical advantage, We should not forget--- Even the Great Gandhi, spoke in Hindi only & rarely in English. But Mr Nehru talked in both languages as occasions demanded. In short, It is the natural spread of Hindi that has emboldened all the so-called All India Leaders , including MODI of To-day. It is in their Blood ( like our Karunanidhi /Tamil in his Blood ) Nehru gave the Assurance to Karunanidhi/ ANNA in 1964 saying that Hindi will not be Imposed on Non-speaking Hindi. Same assurance holds Good even after 50 years. M.K lived with the Assurance for Half Century & he can pull on like that.But as he usually does, one more SALVO to firm his position , though even the support of T.N. Govt is an EYE-WASH ?
Kamraj spoke about 3 language formula, but it fizzled out, because of the simple reason that Hindi speaking population do not need a third language/ not even a Second language. Modi cannot be expected to be different.
One should also remember an equivalent situation prevailed when Madras Province was formed with 4 southern states speaking 4 different languages,.Madras was the Capital. , with a PRIME minister In that period Tamilians were having a position, equivalent to North Hindi speaking people.
We never learnt Telugu/ malayalam/ Kannada & by default these 3 states spoke Tamil & we enjoyed SUPERIORITY then. Once again I stress that no other state opposes Hindi, including vociforous Bengal, WHY ?
Tamilians are , including present generation of Dravidian Party.They always try to circumvent & progress without Hindi coming on their way. Manage with English & Broken Hindi which is good enough to manage any practical difficulties..
