Majority of Hindus would agree with you.
But have you heard of Vaishnavites? Particularly the Southern Variety.

I have few friends from Madurai, strict Iyyangars. They live 5 minutes from the temple and have not been to Meenakshi Temple as it is not a Vaishnav Temple.

Even in USA, The regular patrons of Ranganatha Temple, in NY refused to have Ganesh in the Temple.
There are many more instances like this. I am sure there are Vaisnavites in this forum who will vouch for this practice.

Let Hindus worship their own Gods, Goddess and Devathas...Why should we bring uniformity in that..Hinduism means diversity..When we go to temples there is much of positive energy created by worshiping our Gods which are energized by the mantras, bhajans and sthothras...So let us not be worried about diversity..In fact that is the strength of Hinduism!!

There was a conversation started by Indainassualji in post#19. I was trying to show that Hinduism is a wast ocean. There is diversity and Hinduism allows diversity and choice. No one is forcing any uniformity, and it will never happen.
Let us get back to topic.

Excerpts from the book How to Become a Hindu By Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami.
Are You a Hindu?Belief is the keynote of religious conviction, and beliefs vary greatly among the different religions of the world. Psychologicallyspeaking, what we believe forms our attitudes, shapes our lives, defines our culture and molds our destiny. To choose our beliefs is to choose our religion. Compare our beliefs to the beliefs of Sanâtana Dharma. If you find yourself at home with Hindu beliefs, the attitudes they produce and the culture that is lived by a billion-plus souls, then obviously you are a Hindu. It is that easy.

Inspite of his assertion, they have very strict process of conversion. They are staunch Shivaties and can not tolerate other sects in their clan.

Who is this another Subramuniya Swami?? Not only Smarthas, anyone can worship anything in HInduism..of not worship if you do not want to..
This doesn't deserve any reply

Maha Periyavar worships Kamakshi and he is a Smartha..and Kamakshi is a consort of the Lord Siva - the supreme of the Saivites...

Whats your actual opinion?? Either you are a devotee of Subramuniya Swami or a mean devotee worshiping only specific gods..

My thinking goes like this - A devotee of any religion is better, since he atleast recognizes there is some form of supreme and bows down to him/her..
