Folks, Glad to note that this exists.I am a physician settled in the US and trying to collect facts for an article.ie Scientific basis of Brahminical traditions as applied to modern medciine. For example early morning Sun worship is still being done in many Brahmin households.Science today has confirmed that exposure to Early morning sun helps in the synthesis of Vitamin D.
If you have any information similar to the above let us know.Thanks.

I am Sachith Ananadan..

I am 73 yrs old Thanjavur smartha-born & after trying to escape from'myself' for about 25 years in science, I thought I had permanently walked away from Physics about 30 yrs ago, when I turned to spirituality along the lines of Sri Ramana Maharshi.

Recently I have joined the Physics faculty of a very fine University as an Adjunct Professor, fortunately with much freedom to lecture on what I want to, within the realm of modern & classical Physics.

But I am gone far too deep into meditation etc. that the constant conflict between the intellect-based ways of Physics & the supramental efforts needed in spirituality does not pose any serious problem. Fortunately my distaste for the world & its dynamics is far too strong for Physics to distract me from spirituality!

I am now here in the midst of young and bright faculty members who are coming to grips with their own version of the Existential problem as to who they really are. From my vantage point of view I am glad to be of assistance to them.

If there are folks in the TamilBrahmins group interested in discussing ideas in the spiritual (not religious!) arena, I would be delighted to do so.

Love & regards,
Sachith Anandan:happy:

Hello

Hi ,

Welcome to this wonderful forum. It takes a lot of efforts to bring together the scattered Tamil Brahmin community. I am fromHassan, but settled in Karkala for over 2 years.

introduction

I've just now joined after finding this site link in a google search engine when I was searching something else. Once into this site I find lot of interesting informations about our practices etc.,.
Hi, everyone. As an introduction I want to say hello.

I also want a clear answer to know why God created us

scientific basis for brahminical practices.

Tomr masalaDear sir
It is said that aachamanam should be done only in the sitting posture. otherwise it yields no result.(sitting in a particular way.) Other things are done in in standing posture. Japam involves rising of hands etc
This is a kind of compulsory physical exercise in the morning.
minimum it involves 5 buskies to do sandhya vandhanam
in vadagalai 4 times one should prostrate after the sandhya vandhanam it is a kind of dandal exercise
About pranayamam it involves resagam pooragam nd kumbakam inhaling stopping and exhaling. The stoppage duration is for about 30 seconds for a healthy snadhyavandhanam this is arrived by chanting om bhur bhuva suvaha etc three times before exhaling.
This clear the lungs and strengthensit
digdevadha vandhanam etc invoves revolving round oneself which again is a physical exercise.
parishesanam one sprinkles water around the plate. This will prevent very small insects from coming near the eating plate.
Soorya namaskaram during madhyanigam (Viewing partially with folded fingers) helps to get the benefit of suns rays ina proper measure without spoiling the eyesight.

I might be partially correct. those who know better may enlighten or correct.
thank you
