Dear Saamy

Heartiest welcome. Which period your grand father was in the Mutt at

Dear Saami,
Marriages are not fun nor the functions and rituals nonsense. All the rituals though seem to be be funny have some meanings. Strictly these rituals were intended for a time the boy and Girl were not aged enough to be husband and wife and hence were indented to induct them into this arrangement.
Marriages are ARRANGEMENTS of COMPROMISES UNLIMITED. All the best to you. Your would be should also like it the way you want it to be . There are enough people who shall arrange the functions the traditional way. The customs vary from place to place. Consult your elders.

Marriage according to Hindu Customs is one of the most precious and pure
bond that binds two unfamiliar human beings and it is rather a sacred bond
shared by two individuals It is a commitment of life time. The occasion
symbolizes a religious duty and a social necessity.

Dear Saamy

Welcome on board the forum. It is heartening to note that you have keen interest in our Religion
and our culture. As Sri T.S. Gopalakrishnan Ji says, the rituals may seem funny / awkward - but each
one has its own significance.

In reality, 'marriage' in its real sense is the set of vows, promises and commitments a couple makes
after invoking all the Gods with Fire [Agni Bhagwan] as the witness. All other frills such as lavish feasts,
expensive clothes / jewels, drinks, honey-moon, dancing, partying etc are only add-ons with the passage
of time and changing social trends.

Nothing wrong in looking forward to best of everything is life. You are bound to get the best of everything
in life, if you will it, as stated in the "Theory of Attraction".

Welcome again and wish you the very best.

Looking forward to your valuable contributions and active participation.

Brahmin Motto : May the whole world be happy
May all the people be happy
May all beings be happy

When a person says : Kashyapa Gotra - he means that he traces his descent
from the ancient sage Kashyapa by unbroken male descent. The Sutras that
deal with social, moral and legal precepts are called Dharma Sastras. All
these are strictly followed in a Hindu Brahmin Wedding. While Kanya Dhanam
is done, Father, Grand Father, Great Grand Father Sharmas are chanted from
both sides in the presence of all elders and well wishers. It has many other
important events followed while performing a marriage unlike in other castes.
There is a lot of significance in Hindu Brahmin Marriage.
