It is not equivalent to an MD(general medicine) or MS.

Heartiest welcome to Saptharishi. The name itself has a very important significance.
Some say it is a mystical number. A constellation of rishis, according to our Indian
Astronomy, where a number of Saints appear. There is a Sloka/Mantra for each Rishi.
According to Vedic Astronomy, which is found in our ancient history, some basic research
work has been done. In fact, some probable dates too have been arrived at giving the significance.
Saptarishi commenced sometime on 21.11.8576 BCE, birth of Lord Shri Rama 10.1.4439 BCE,
Birth of Lord Shri Krishna 27.7.3112 BCE and the present Kaliyuga supposed to have
commenced from 10.1.3104 BCE. The above is purely only a collated information from a paper
published by an author on the Saptharishi related topic.

hi.
i need one clarification. my father was a great astrologer and also a person who knew about vedas and shastras etc. so, he had said that as per our hindu calender when star birthday comes twice one is supposed take the second one to celebrate the birthdays and in case for shradas we have to go with the first one. but some say we have to take the first for everything. can you please clarify my confusion because my father is no more and i do not know who to rely on.
thanking you,
chitra vishwanathan

Your father's version is correct as a similar doubt was raised by my friend and he was
clarified by a Sastrigal.

This is S THEJHAS from Coimbatore ,Tamil Nadu.
Having done my B.Tech Mech in Amrita School Of Engg. I am into my CSE preparation.
My main intention of joining this forum being a Brahmin is to know what this concept means. I see a lot of things happening around me which causes intense pain, an urge to know and inquire . I felt this could be indeed the platform for my uplift and expression.
Let pragmatism , non discriminatory pride in culture and qualified liberalism prevail !

I am Ramesh Jayaraman,Safety Advisor based in Saudi Arabia.I like to know more people and try to be in touch and learn our traditional way followed by our elders.Due to many reasons we have missed out our cultural values. Now that we can get and share more information through the internet it is a right place to learn and practice more of our culture.
