I am interested in knowing the details of
annual rituals done for the departed relations like father, in terms of all the
minute requirements .If some body from the Forum can provide this by way
of a document,I shall be highly obliged.
Heartiest welcome to Mr Sampath Kumarji.
As you desire, it can be supplied in the form of a document, but then a book is readily
available with Giri Trading Company Mylapore mentioning all the details of Srardham.
The Srardham, a ritual, is performed every year on a particular Thithi (Sukla or Krishna)
for the dead ancestors including father and mother. The ancestors bless those who
perform rituals regularly. It is a belief that our ancestors who have departed will come
once in a year on the day of the Thithi to quench their thirst, i.e. water and sesame
seeds are offered. Elders normally used to say that they bless us for remembering them
on their Thiti day and recommend for our wellness to the God. Pitru Tharpan (just like
Amavasya Tharpan) has to be performed on the day following the day on which Srardham
is performed. If you are unable to get the information, it can be downloaded from
the website, which can also be used.
