Thank you very much sir.I am very glad to be a part of our community. I will definitely spend time to share my views.
I have some questions in myself. who i am?what is my exact destination? like this.
I realized that "God's feet is the exact point i(my soul) need to reach". I am trying slowly to depart from this "Maayaa world" . But i know, living in THIS world and trying to reach 'Bhagavat bhaadhaa' is not a easy task. But i will keep on trying.

Thank you very much for your transparent opinion. Hope you are aware that we are all sailing in a boat against swirling winds. When the sea is rough, the only way is to keep our boat to a safe point moving forward without being hit by a tidal wave or from an uprising waves. A person who has the courage to face any crisis goes farthest and is willing to reach the shore with safety. If one dreams like living on a boat, one's life will always be safe. I feel indeed really happy to see that you are proud of overcoming from the waves. No doubt waves keep on coming but the waves too would guide us through some other way. Hence, the boat of one's life is to be light, packed with only what is absolutely needed.

Wish you a happy day.

Dear jaya sri,

You should join the thread about Brahma Sutras to get an idea about Brahman,Maya etc..actually after hearing lots of stuff on religion one might decide not to depart from "Maya world" after all.
I think the world we know is always better than the world we do not know.

Dear All,

■ I am Srikumar. Currently residing in Chennai and working as a Software Professional.
■ My native is Kerela, and my ancestors are palghat brahmins.
■ My aim in joining this forum is to know more about our culture and follow as much as possible. In this busy world & modern lifestyle it is increasingly becoming difficult to practice our religious rites & rituals (even the basic practices).
■ But it is very encouraging (& inspiring) to see so many people taking time off their busy lifestyle to accommodate brahmin rites & rituals wherever possible.
■ My upanayanam happened very late in my life, infact couple of years before my marriage, and I have never found it necessary to perform 'Sandhya' after that.
■ Since last 1 month, I have started performing 'Sandhya' ritual ("Prataha Sandhya" & "Saayam Sandhya") on a daily basis.
■ I have been performing 'Sandhyaa' without fail for the past 1 month, which has led to lot of changes in my life already.
■ I wish to thank all those people who have inspired me to continue this ritual and I am looking forward to more inspiration from the forum too for continuing this affair ALAP.

Thank You,
Srikumar Krishna Iyer.

Mr Srikumar Krishna Iyer

Heartiest Welcome to you. Since you have started Sandhya
Vandanam, you are performing one of the significant tasks
enabling you eligible to perform any type of activities relating to
Karma. Secondly, if time permits, please do practice oblations to the
Kula Deivam daily and you can also perform Gayatri-Japam.
Gayathri is the essence of Vedas. Vedas are the gifts to us
and it is a Vidya to us, followed by ancestors for many thousands of
years or rather millennia. Learning Vedas and chanting them
may take a little time, but you can get loaded the Vedas in your Mobile
and listen to it whenever you get free time, without disturbing
your leisure and comfortable hours. The music of Vedas will refresh
your mind and heart over a period of time. If time permits, you can
also listen slokas/stotras through mobile phone.

Thank You Bala, I need this encouragement to keep moving forward.
I ll definitely try to practice the things that you have mentioned.
For now, during Sandhya, I am chanting Gayathri Mantra 108/ 64 times in the morning/ eve.

My aim is to continue doing Sandhya no matter where I am, How busy I am?.....In whatever situation I am.

So far so good....... :):plane::plane:

I am a native of MADURAI settled in Chennai after working in Punjab National Bank from 1983 to 2012. I have two daughters who are both married off. I used to play cricket AND table tennis. I still have a keen interest in playing chess. Interested in Carnatic music. Trying to learn RUDRAM. Joined PNB aas personnel officer and ended up doing defence for needy persons (labour).

My name is Sridhara. I am a tamil Iyengar from Hassan< Karnataka. Our Ancestors migrated to Karnataka alongwith Ramanujachariar nine hundred years ego. There are about 20 agraharams in hassan district. proud to say, even after 900 years you can here Tiruppavai during Marhazhi masam in our village temples. We still speak Tamil at hme but Tamil we speak may sound very different. But personally I know Tamil well and I can also read Tamil well.

Heartiest Welcome to Mr Sundaram. It is nice to see you in this
forum having interest in learning Rudram, Chamakam, etc. Instead
of learning yourself through the books, you may initially have a CD
and listen to it for a few days keeping the book alongside, so that
you would be able to get an idea of the pronunciation and mathras.
There are books available in Giri Trading too with meaning for each
stanza. That would be more beneficial because you would be clear
in mind as to what does each mantra or sloka that is chanted for.
Otherwise, you may download MP3 version from the net and can listen
to it. For a few days, you may just play it at home, even that would
bring a good vibration at home.

Om Namasivaya

Heartiest welcome to you. Hope you are the followers of Visishtadvaita philosophy propounded by Shri Ramanujariar. You are really a Chamathu boy mentioning everything clearly. Hope you are employed in Karnataka. Wherever you are, the origin traces back to Tamil Nadu. Do not worry
about the present rehabilitation. Customs and Culture remains the same.
You are welcome to participate in the forum and share yours views without

Sridhara's introductin

I am Sridhar from a small Agraharam in Hassan District of Karnataka. My ancestorss migrated there more than 900 years. Even today we have retained Tamil as our mother toungue. We recite Naalayira Prabhandams in our temples and at homes. There are 16-20 such villages dominated by Tamil Iyengars in our district. I am working as 'Logistics manager ' in a company in Bangalore.

Thank you Bala, You are right. We follow Vishistadvaitam. I am excited abut being associated with brahmins of Tamilnadu after a gap of 9 centuries through this forum. I am working in Bangalore as Logistics manager in a software cmpany.

I am Ramakrishnan, usually called as Ramki. Born in Nagerkoil and now settled in Bangalore. Got an MBA and currently working in an MNC. I am 41 years old. Kousika Gothram - Iyer community.. Mainly joined this community to contribute something and also to get more information and ask doubts about certain customs etc,

Heartiest welcome Mr Ramki. Kaushika Gotram comes under Apasthambha
Sutram, i.e. Yajur Vedam. Gayathri is taught to every boy at the time of
Upanayanam by his Father in the role of a Guru. On chanting the Gayathri
at that time along with his Father, the Shastras say the boy gets his second
birth and is called dwija. A brahmin boy who salutes the Lord Surya daily
three times would fetch whatever he wants. Our Vedas say that one who
does not perform Sandhyavandanam is a sinner and is not eligible to do Vedic
duties. Therefore everyone should take a sankalpam that one should do
Sandhyavandanam daily at least two times if not three times owing to official
engagements. It is nice that you have interest in brahmin culture and customs.
Please do participate and share your views.

There is a book called Vaitheekasri, which gives lot of information. It is
a monthly magazine being published by Shri Nannilam Rajagopala Ganapadigal.
It contains very useful information including about all festivals and about
Sankalpams for monthly as well as for Amavasya Tharpanam. There is
mention about the Gayathri in the August month magazine. Wherein Maha
Periyavaa in his discourse has clearly explained the need for Gayatri Japam
necessity for doing Sandhyavandanam. The same is reproduced here for
information.
Quote :

If the Gayatri has not been chanted for three generations in the family
of a Brahmin, its members lose caste (they cease to be Brahmins).
The quarter where such Brahmins live cannot be called an "agrahara".
It is perhaps not yet three generations since Brahmins gave up the Gayatri.
So they still may be called Brahmins.

In the same way if the Brahmin family has not performed sacrifices for
three generations its members will be called "Durbrahmanas", degenerate
Brahmins. Even though degenerate the label "Brahmin" sticks to them.
There are prayascittas (expiatory rites) by means of which the
corrupted Brahmins will be remade true Brahmins. But there is no such
hope for a Brahmin in whose family Gayatri has not been chanted for
three generations. A member of such a family ceases altogether to be
a Brahmin and cannot be made one again. He is just a "Brahmana- bandhu",
a kin or a friend of Brahmins. The same rule applies to Ksatriyas and Vaisyas
with regard to the Gayatri mantra; they become "ksatriya-bandhus" and
"Vaisya-bandhus" respectively.
