pambu means snake (don't think i'm calling you snake)..it is said that only snake knows snake legs..like that a criminal will be able to identify a criminal...a pisasu can only identify a pisasu (MAY BE I'm ALSO PISASU...:target:r.vaithehi

LOL!

I must seriously improve my Tamil..I thought that line meant Snake somewhere in legs or something and was wondering what???..so I wanted to make sure what it really meant.

now that couple of ghosts are busy transacting with each other in this thread , others can escape to the topic- is dictatorship better than democracy ?
I hope sincerely an autocrat promising good governance does not win and we end up losing our democratic rights.
we have tolerated a lot and put up with corruption and bad governance in order that we remain free and breath the fresh air and express freely our views on any subject. we do not want the singaporean model of autocracy with good governance to be thrust on us.lot of people have sacrificed their lives for
freedom of this country . the least we can do is to ensure that it is not taken away by a tinpot dictator in the making.

singapore china taiwan hong kong all have a common confucius ethic and values. southkorea is a single ethnic tightknit buddhist society.

india, with its thousand and one castes languages religions regions has no other option but democracy, if it is to remain united. this is the biggest legacy that nehru has handed over to us, and for this we should all be grateful to jawaharlal.

pakistan founded at the same time went from a country built on idealism to one of corruption by the army and today a theocracy bent mass misrule. we too could have gone like that. but sanity prevailed.

democracy has been the constant safety valve. frustrations built up over milleniums have been provided outlets. yesterdays have nots have atleast have the feeling that they can change the society. and yes, the society has changed. not as fast as some would like. and too fast for others. not everyone's aspirations have been satisfied.

but without democracy, there would not be a united india. we would go the way of the old ussr. this is what i think.

yesterday on TV one youngster from arunachal pradesh, said that he knows that voting will not change the status of his state which is backward . however ,voting is his democratic right and he would like to exercise it. It poured in his state on day of polling . still he stood in line and voted.
democracy as you say is a safety valve. you have a choice to vote out someone who does not fulfill your expectations.also let out your frustrations when things are really bad.

I may look foolish, but I strongly feel India is what it is due to its Dharma and will be held together as long there is still some Dharma in the minds of the people. Why didnt India go the Egyptian or Iranian way and fall to other Abrahamic religions despite thousands of Invasion and threats ? Its not Jawaharlal ( Nehru Mama) who gave us the legacy of democracy, the Hindu society has always been democratic for centuries . Earlier we had better rulers, now we dont , thats the difference.

USSR was bound by communism, but India is bound by the spirit of Hinduism, which is eternal. And Hindus will fight .

If nothing works out, we have Rajnikanth. Even if not, we have Vijayakanth :)

hi

i think cinema ppl rules our democracy....both parties fielded cinema celebraties....just for charshma...not for ruling...

Reply to Mr. Assault.

Dictators may be good at leading people, but if they are paranoid dictators they lead them to their doom. Note how Hitler led Germany to a crushing defeat and then committed suicide like a coward. Similarly Stalin committed genocide.

I had mentioned benevolent dictatorship. I was thinking, would I be a benevolent dictator myself? I think the problem is the loss of the feedback loop. Sooner or later, the dictator becomes divorced from reality.
Benovolent and Dictatorship is like Pakistan and Democracy. They cant go together. If you are benevolent, you have people waiting for your heads. Dictatorship becomes self centered and the leaders become far fetched from reality, but it is definitely needed to establish an order. Of course the leader should nt be dumb or self centred like we had in Africa or Pak. Some one who is proud and who loves the country. I am sure Hitler, Putin and Modi loves their country and ideology.

is really thought provoking, we all realize. Let us discuss calmly & seriously. No deviations from this Very Important Topic. After Independence 67 years. Long back, Mr T.N. Seshan the powerful , Bureaucrat
who was touring almost all universities in the country years back I was one to ask a specific question as to whether Democracy is good for the all
lround development of India or Dictatorship would help for some years to bring faster reforms. His answer was , that Democracy is the choice, with some serious changes in the Constitution, a National Govt will be the answer. The emergency clamped by Mrs Indira Gandhi was timely, in that law abiding citizens felt extremely free in mind & moved around to literally feel that, everywhere there was courtesy, & law offenders were hiding & the lesson was learnt that, The Common Indians are too good people who would get scared of stringent enforcement of Law at all levels created FEAR & I was more than convinced , not only then but even to-day that majority of people except the law abiding , need to realize that there is a Pistol behind me & he will behave/ appear to behave wounderfully , more than the Law abiding minority. made them appesr with thMy judgement is that majority of Indians need a feeling that some one is holding a weapon on his back .
Proposal of forming a National Govt. was mooted by some patriots & a few supported. The idea was picked up by Mrs Gandhi but ALAS, she changed her mind or else India could have set an Example to the world
Can we again think of the idea? Can any one suggest & even go to Court with Public interest?
Sincerely,
Rishikesan

after a few years of bad governance with corruption scaling new peaks, politicians participating in criminal acts and getting away due to a non
functional judicial system and media interested only in sensationalism and TRP ratings, the indian citizen was at his wits end
many are now yearning for good governance and some are prepared to vote for someone with dubious past selling dreams of good governance.
objectively there is not much of a difference between the two national parties as far as the reform agenda is concerned. they can very well form a national govt. with reforms as the agenda. voters can elect only the persons with a non criminal past to the lok sabha without giving both parties more than 140-150 seats so that they are forced to get together to give a decent govt.it is not a far fetched scenario.
this talk of one party sweeping is a hype built by the party and a irresponsible media. may 16 will show , there would be a last mile problem for
largest party which will lead to instabilty. I personally would not be surprised if strange political alignments take place for india to get a govt.
A new political order will emerge in course of time to give india a new direction . it will be brought about by the youth, women and the dispossessed..

Dear Krish44, I am happy that the analysis made by you first & I tried to expand the thoughts & suggested that a National Govt could be the best to ensure curbing small/ very small regional parties trying to raise its head for Central Govt. Your last 2 lines indicate that , we can hope for some unexpected happenings for the good of the country. We can pray to the Almighty to bring in patriotism in the minds of contenders & by some miracle ,all right thinking youngsters could take the lead/ even about 100 of them can create History ?
