Mr. PJ,
So there is no bar in Women becoming a Purohit or Vaitheega provided they also undergo the training under a competent Guru after they also undergo Upanayanam.

Is this sacrosanct? Is this GOD made rule or man made rule?
If man made it can be changed. We used to have this kind of bar for people entering the temple too. It is basically an arbitrary rule to protect a profession.

Some of our members are acutely conscious of the challenges faced by the tabra male youth today in studies, scholarships, jobs and so on. If girls from all castes start posing a challenge even in the vedapathasalas, what will happen to our young boys? That is my worry.

Shri Sangom,

I can understand your worry.

Unfortunately some people from our own community want those vedapatshala going poor guys of our community to quit from such practices and take up a secular job like barber, cobbler, scavenger, loader etc and let the vedic profession be lead by the "poor girls" from all the caste. At the same time, these Brahmin born poor guys who all became barbers, cobblers, scavengers, loaders etc..have no rights to look for these "poor" lady purohits as their wives. And if they expect this from lady purohits, it would be showing their cheap mentality, shamelessness and male chauvinism.

RAVI SIR

Yes, very well written, Thanks

Those who think they are Rationalist, can have these type of Purohits for their Home functions.

Nobody is stopping them

Wrong; some want to do that peace in the home and in the community or for social reasons. They also need a mukut.

Karuna claims to be a rationalist, but most of his kith and kin are irrationalists. They do visit temples and hire brahmin priests.

His latest grumble is, hindu temples are destroyed and tamil hindus are eliminated in srilanka.

PJ,

I think rationalists won't need a purohit, right?

Once you get your kids (boys and girls) out of the archaic mentality that confirms to traditional gender roles and so-called age differences, everything will become clearer. Today, there is an evil practice of women being encouraged to seek out rich men. This needs to be stopped before any kind of reasonable equality between the sexes can be reached :)
