But nothing beats this story about how a person never forgot a face he once loved.

Once when I was newly graduated..I was not feeling well and went to a clinic near my parents house which belonged to a doctor they knew quite well.

This doctor used to like one of my father's sister when he was young.

But at that time this doctor was in still in high school and he was too playful types..so no one thought that he will even make it out of high school!LOL

So my father's sister did not reciprocate his love.

Then he went on and became a doc and got married to someone else but he was still on good terms with my mum and dad.

Ok the last time he had seen me was when I was very young cos at that time my family was staying in a different state from his work place.

Then we got transferred to the same place where he was staying and everyone became close family friends.

So he had not seen me for a long long time.

When I went to his clinic and told him that I am not feeling well..to my surprise he was not interested to check me but he kept saying..."you resemble someone I once knew..who are you?"

I resemble my father's sister and this doctor was some 55 years old or more at that time was asking me "Can you tell me who you are?"

Then I said I am so and so's daughter and he was "OMG you must be her niece!"

Then he was so happy to meet me and asked how is everyone at home.

Then after a few days he calls up my parents and said he wanted to propose his brother in law who is a lawyer to marry me.

But I declined the proposal cos that lawyer guy was not my types.

Lawyers tend to drink at parties when they entertain their clients...so I was not keen to marry a lawyer.

But I was thinking no matter what...that doctor never forgot the face of the person he once loved.

renukaji

nice read

There was one interesting statement made by a Brahmin girl

brahmin guys are not love/marriage material.

She also gives reasoning for that:
"Brahmin guys are not love/marriage material", Says Brahmin girl « Rising Sun

Probably this is the reason many Brahmin boys still remain unmarried!!!

From your story probably Lawyer Guys also falls in this category?

amazing, how the concept of lawyers has changed.

for the first part of the twentieth century, even upto the 60s, lawyer's profession was the most sought after and respectable.

they commanded the highest prestige and dowry..and slowly their reputation started sinking..till we see renu's post here.

incidentally, it is not too different in the west. in canada, lawyers are considered crooks and not trusted. so what happens?

the law society, ie the lawyer's organization, with a fat budget, are going to start a publicity campaign. its aim is to present lawyers as good people (!). :)

Kunjuppu Sir

I have seen many Lawyers sitting in their office in the evenings only because they go to Court during day time.
Naturally They will never be at home in the evening ;They will be discussing case matters with their clients only.

So i agree with renikaji 100%
Now Brahmin material and Lawyer material both are rejected!!!

Software professionals nowadays work 25 hours out of 24..

Then who is best?

Dear P J Sir,

The 'kAdhal' about which you want the members to writeis different from the other forms of love (anbu) that

you have given in the definitions above!

Here is one poem on 'anbu'...

Dear P J sir,

Working hours are not really a problem...even engineers work long hours..when my husband has some tender to finish at his office..sometimes his whole office stays back even till 12 midnight.

As a doctor when I was in the government service I used to have weekends on call where I would have to work non stop for 48 hours and stay in the hospital.

Even now I work longer hours than my husband..I work around 13 hours a day on weekdays.

But with lawyers they have an active social life to entertain clients.

So most of them bring clients home for Diwali or any special occasions.

And when this happens..alcohol is consumed non stop.

I am quite a "homely" person even though I might have unconventional thoughts.

I do not like to have parties at home or attend functions or call anyone for dinner etc.

Even for Diwali I don't call anyone to my house.

I do not like to play host for a party..the only person so far who has stayed at my house as a guest was a priest who had come to conduct some prayer for my husband relatives.

That priest was happy that he was treated so well..he said he was treated like a God!

You see..priests don't drink!LOL.. so it was ok to have them in the house and further more me and my husband spent some time having discussions with him on religion..so it was time well spent.

Further more when I was young..my father used to know a couple of ISKCON monks who used to stay at our house whenever they were in town.

So I was already quite used helping out my mother preparing special food for monks and we used to have a special set of plates just for them to use.

ISCKON monks love butter. They can consume one bar of butter during one meal itself.

So for a person like me I made sure I married a person who does not drink...when a person does not drink he/she has less friends.

Out here lawyers drink like fish..so I would have never agreed to marry a lawyer.

But otherwise here lawyers are sought for by most girls cos lawyers are rich and drive flashy cars.

Dear Renu,

What is this?

I do not like to have parties at home or attend functions or call anyone for dinner etc.
I wanted to come for a dinner to your house when I visit my brother next time!

Please change your views about number of friends for teetotallars. They too have huge circle of friends. My son and D I L

attend at least one party every week end and call friends for lunch , dinner twice a month. When my sister and B I L visited

the U S of A, her first son took them for about two weeks on a tour by road. Except one night's stay in a motel, he had a friend

in each city to accommodate them in his house. He has a real wide network! Ram and I too have a very huge circle of friends.

So, we do not have to 'drink' to attract friends! :grouphug:

LOL!

You know cos my work involves so much human contact daily..when I am at home I become a very private person! Ha Ha Ha.

Thank God I married a person who does not like to socialize..otherwise I don't know what I will do?

You see for next few days I wont be online cos its Chinese New Year here and it's a Public Holiday till the 12th of Feb.

So tomorrow I am going jungle trekking with my son and husband at a hill resort.

You see RR ji..when I was in college..I never missed any party we had in college.

So I had already enjoyed the young days of dance and party ..when I am older now..I like to unwind and read and study in my room.
I sometimes get scared if I can finish all my books at home in this life itself.

So when I get free time..all I do is read and read and read.

Free time I use to learn new Bhajans also..so no time for anything else.

I work almost 13 hours from Monday to Friday from 8.30am till 9.00pm.

Saturdays I work from 8.30am till 1 PM.

Sundays and Public Holidays I am closed..and that time I use to clean and do housework..so where is the time to socialize?

Don't worry when you come I will take you to my parents house.

We can all have dinner there.

So my mum can play host along with me!LOL

Raji Madam

Jana gana mana padina mathiri irukku!!!

When janaganamana was made compulsory in theatres, because people left without waiting when played at the end, the anthem was shifted to the start of the movie.

So this is not the end, but beginning.

அப்படின்னா, thread முடிஞ்சு போச்சா?

OK!!

Happy trekking!! :high5:

Dear RR ji,

The hill resort(Berjaya Hill resort Bukit Tinggi Malaysia) was nice..there was a Thai style temple of the 4 faced Buddha.

But when I saw the statue..it was not a 4 faced Buddha but a combination of Brahma,Vishnu,Shiva and Lakshmi.

This is the first time I am seeing a statue of Trimurti and Lakshmi combination.

The temple has a care taker from Nepal who also told that this statue is Brahma,Vishnu,Shiva and Lakshmi.

I managed to find a pic on Google image.

The face you see in the front is Shiva..holding a staff and a Kamandalu and has a snake at the waist.
The face on the left you see is Vishnu,..holding a Sudarshana Chakra(not visible in the pic).
The face at the back is Brahma..has a beard and holding Vedas.(not visible in pic..only the hand holding the vedas is visible in this pic)
The face facing the right had side back to back with Vishnu is Lakshmi...holding a lotus.(seen partially in this pic)

Valentine Day February 14

Valentine's Day (Saint Valentine's Day) is an occasion celebrated on February 14. It is the traditional day on which people express their love for each other by sending Valentine's cards, presenting flowers, or offering confectionery.
When did February first appear on a calendar?
February, along with January, was introduced onto the Roman calendar by Numa Pompilous when the calendar was extended from ten to twelve. The word February comes from the word 'februa' - which means cleansing or purification, and reflects the rituals undertaken before Spring.
Other names for February
The Anglo Saxons called February 'Sol-monath' (cake-month), because cakes were offered to the gods during that month. February was also known to the Saxons as 'sprout-kale' from the sprouting of cabbage or kale.
Having only 28 days in non-leap years, February was known in Welsh as 'y mis bach' - the little month.
In Shakespeare's time about 400 years ago, the second month of the year was called 'Feverell'. In Isaac Newton's time one hundred years later it had become 'Februeer'. The modern name, February, is only about a hundred years old.

Who is St. Valentine?
There were many Christians names Valentine. According to the Catholic Encyclopaedia, at least three Saint Valentines are mentioned who are associated with 14 February. One is described as a priest at Rome, another as a Bishop of Interamna (now Terni in Italy) and the other lived and died in Africa.
The Valentine that most experts believe is the actual one remembered on St. Valentine's Day was a Roman who was martyred for refusing to give up Christianity.

Valentine day has many Myths, one reads like this
The first man an unmarried woman saw on 14th February would be her future husband.
Another Funny one
if the names of all a girl's suitors were written on paper and wrapped in clay and the clay put into water, the piece that rose to the surface first would contain the name of her husband-to-be.
