Food is food...we need to give it respect...whether its from an Udupi Hotel or a Muniyandi Vilas.

Some prefer veg and some prefer non veg...that is the only difference.

BTW the term Military Hotel is only used in India and most of us visiting India for the first time thought it was a Hotel for Army personnel only!LOL

There is a change in profiles of people visiting eating places.

NB communities have become upwardly mobile.and their eating habits cover non veg also.

So many hotels have a non veg sections also.

During my recent trip to madurai in interior tamilnadu. I was finding it difficult to get veg only hotel..

hi renu,

military is famous for non veg......in tamil nadu particular vegetarian hotels are famous and most of them running by brahmins...

so they need to show that MILITARY HOTELS MEANT FOR PURE NON VEG..NOT FOR MILITARY PERSONAL...

Google search gives an article with the image in OP.

The link is:
Chennai's disappearing military hotels

Wonder how this article could be interesting to brahms!!

OH!! Those images make me get nausea!

dear raji, good lady,

if i might comment on this post... dear lady, you are talking about other people's food. what they eat. equivalent to our own thatchi mumum and puliyodharai.

i once had two chinese sharing a house. one day they fried some stuff. it looked very much like our vadaams. except it was pig's rind. to them to it was a delightful treat, along with their rice and stir fried stuff. had it not been told me, about the origins, i would have grabbed the rinds. for they looked so delectable.

our own palates, to those not familiar with our food, smells strange, surprising it may be. how many of us, can look without atleast a iota of disgust, at the site of the ecchil elai either at a wedding or shraddham?

all i am trying to say, ... is to avoid statements like 'Those images make me get nausea '. to me, it smacks of self righteousness, superiority and failure to acknowledge other humans as equals.

further more, it breeds, immense feelings of hurt escalating to hostilities and misunderstandings.

hope you dont mind these feedback. thank you.

For people who do not view animal flesh as food, it is a natural reaction. It was not a reaction shared with any air of superiority.

If such a reaction is made in front of non-veg eaters that would be inappropriate. In this forum many are vegetarians and do not like to celebrate eating meat.

My suggestion to Smt Raji is to ignore this feedback!

Dear Kunjs,

I feel its normal human behavior to view something that is not 'Kosher" to us an unpleasant and enough to warrant a gag reflex.

I have seen certain Abrahamic religion members close their nose and gag at the sight of any non Kosher dish consisting of Porcine DNA.

Same with some Hindu Non Vegetarians would do not like the sight of beef dishes and feel uneasy gag reflex and all.

I really do not think this has anything to do with a sense of superiority of any kind but generally we humans tend to feel our personal preferences are the best and the rest might be viewed differently.

To be frank some countries even have a fried cockroach dish...this can make anyone uneasy and even gag cos chewing on a crunchy critter needs to be an acquired taste.

Also I read a recipe once..about porcine brains set in an egg custard.

Now that recipe hardly had much spices and surely the smell might not be appealing keeping in mind the gel consistency of a brain...a dead brain is cool and gel like.

Gag anyone?LOL

To be frank its not easy to view all food as the same unless we just see every type of food as Annam(Food) and understand and respect that each person has their personal preference.

It comes easy for me cos after having the experience of handling decomposing humans with maggots and all...no other flesh makes me gag!LOL

Dear Kunjuppu Sir,

Somehow I am unable to view animal flesh! Shows my intolerance! :)

I need to grow up!! :D

Dear TKS Sir,

Thanks for your feed back.

I have to reply to Kunjuppu Sir because I have met him in person and he is a very friendly person. :)

Dear Renu,

In some five star restaurants in Sing. Chennai, they make the veggie dishes appear like non.veg!

Brinjals like well- fed-leaches;cauliflower like some animal product, with lot of tomato sauce spread over it and so on.

I avoid eating them, though they are veggie stuff.

dear raji, good lady,

thank you for your kind reply. as always classy!! ;)

in japan, i have heard, they have taken this form of deception to the extreme. cheap fish are flavoured and shaped to look like the more expensive types.

here in toronto, there are veggie burgers (i am quite sure these are available in boston too). the ingredients are all vegetarian, but you grill them, just like the meat ones, and add on all those condiments.

wonder, what would happen, if they produced synthetic or vegetarian based food, that looked like KFC. :).. looks like meat, smells like meat ... but not really meat. eh eh!

nowadays, the best place for a vegetarian, i think, is north america. folks like us, brought up on thachchi mumum, can broaden our palate with so many cousines right from mexican, to italian, chinese, thai or organic.. all 100% pucca vegetarian and healdhy too.

and extremely affordable. if you have not already done so, please visit the whole food store in boston.

Dear Kunjuppu Sir,

I have tasted Mexican food and learnt that 'Christmas' means both green chilli and red chilli sauces!

Food was more Indian-ish but lacked the color of turmeric and appeared somewhat dull. :)

And, I still remember the taste of Thai ice tea in which coconut milk replaced milk, which I tasted in 2011,

in Boston downtown. Yummy!
