[h=1]தவப்பயன்?[/h]

காட்டில் தோன்றியது ஒரு யானை;

முதல் முறையாக உணர்ந்தார்;

MIRACULOUS POWERS.

A man did severe tapas and gained several unusual powers. He became very proud of his powers.

One day another man approached him and asked,”Revered sire! Can you perform miracles?”

The tapasvi replied, ” You may test me in any way you deem fit. I can prove my special powers.” The man now asked the tapasvi,” Can you kill the elephant standing over there?”

The tapasvi after the utterance of a mantrA, threw some water on the elephant. It immediately fell down quite dead.

The man now asked the tapasvi,” Can you bring back the elephant to life?”

After the utterance of another mantraa the tapasvi threw some water on the elephant and brought it back to life.

The man asked the tapasvi,” What is the use of killing and bringing back to life an elephant, when you could have used your tapas for gaining mOkshA?”.

The tapasvi felt sheepish for having wasted all his life in such a useless tapas.

A Tapasvi was performing austerities under an Ambali Tree to please the Lord.
One day, Shri Narada was going that way to Vaikunth. He saw the Tapasvi
and approached him. The Tapasvi bowed down to HIM and said, since your are
going to Vaikunth, could you kindly ask the Lord on my behalf as to when he would
give me Darshan. Shri Narada went to Vaikunth and asked the Lord about the
Tapasvi. The Lord replied to Shri Narada and said "Tell the Tapasvi that for getting
the Darshan, he will still have to perform the austerities for as many years as there
are leaves on the Ambali Tree. Shri Narada was having an apprehension as to how to
tell the Lord' words to Tapasvi. Shri Narada was going back over the sky. The Tapasvi
called him and asked HIM to tell him the Lord's reply. Shri Narada was hesitating and was
not willing to tell the actual information. The Tapasvi did not however remain silent and asked
Shri Narada as to what was the actual reply from Lord. The Tapasvi told Shri Narada, not
to hesitate to tell the reply, whether it is negative or positive about the Darshan.
Shri Narada told the the true statement of the Lord to the Tapasvi. The Tapasvi on hearing
the Divine words of the Lord started singing and dancing under the Ambali Tree. On knowing
the determination and the love & Bakthi of the Tapasvi., Lord appeared before the Tapasvi and
gave Darshan. On seeing this, Shri Narada asked the Lord about the reasoning for the Darshan.
Lord Said that HE became happy on seeing the Tapasvi's determination to have a Darshan
despite the hurdles.

And this, our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in stones, and good in everything.
