Organising the community

Dear Renu,

Look at the fee structure in schools! I wonder whether our forum can have a common fund to help such people!

Meanwhile I think of what Rajaji (?) told once: There is no use giving fish to someone who is hungry but teach him to fish!

1. Some senior sAsthrigaL could be requested to give more opportunities for the father.

2. Mother can learn to cook delicious food because the payment for half a days kitchen work for ceremonies is Rs. 1,000/- +.

That will help the family's real progress in the long run. Again, who will do these? :noidea:

Quite positive and practical approach Raji Ram ji, and you deserve a thumbs up for that that's the way it should be worked out without affecting ones self respect. I have forwarded the contents of this post one of my friend in Chennai to explore meeting them personally and work out something in this regard. Unfortunately I have very limited contacts in Chennai.

Dear RR ji and Ganesh ji,

Its not about giving anyone a fish instead of teaching someone to fish as Confucius said.

Its an acute situation...a man has lost his job...that is a real big blow to anyone.

At least some help to pay the school fees for at least one term should be given so that meanwhile someone can help out guiding him and his family.

Organizing the community involves MONEY for acute emergency situations like this.

Not addressing financial problems is no use..I think long long back in forum many years ago I had suggested that priesthood be declared an occupation with a minimum wages and also EPF(Employers Provident Fund) and Social Security and health insurance so that the welfare of priest and his family would be guaranteed...that is frankly left to the politicians and a representative who would be bold enough to push for this.

But at a smaller scale at times financial help is needed...I see the enthusiasm about Organizing the community fading the moment money is needed.

Instead of countless temple donations or money spent for poojas etc..why dont members try to organize a fund for this person.

Firstly someone should meet him..to make sure its a genuine case..in the current era we need to know whose account its going into.

We too do not want to take risk of wiring money into unknown accounts that could be harboring illegal activities.

So someone should call the numbers given..arrange for a meeting..hear the person out..listen to his plans..may be he himself needs some mentoring to cope with his lack of money and a lack of a job.

Action guys...all talk and no action is no use.

Renukaji,

I thought you said you would not become a member. Are you supporting the organization from outside?

Is she qualified? (Sarcasm). Or may be she is like Bernie Sanders and other whites who supported civil rights.:amen:

Ok...today I am not in a very good mood...so you asked for it!

You see...I highlighted the case of a person who needs financial help becos a man who has lost his job goes thru depression..from my professional point of view this person would need help from his community to at least tide over his time of difficulties.

Also by suggesting minimum wages/EPF/Social Security/Insurance in the past for priest ..that was just talking about Labour Laws.

When every other profession has some benefits for retirement etc why should a priest be left out and suffer to live?

Sorry...you got it all wrong...I do not have to be a member of any society to support a good cause cos I might not identify myself with any community but that does not mean I can not suggest beneficial points for any community.

When it comes to charity and help..I am not narrow minded to see others as different from me when I render suggestions and help.

If you read the Geeta properly it clearly states there are 3 types of help or charity.

There is a type of help/charity where the recipient is worthy and the donor has no self interest of any kind when rendering help.

BTW I have the freedom to support any good cause I want without having personal interest..next who knows I might support minimum wages for male strippers too!

When Patels in Gujarat fought for reservation their leader Hardik Patel was jailed and they never got their reservations.

But when Jaats from Haryana fought for their reservation...they had no leader..everyone protested..everyone was their own leader..so the police could not put everyone in jail..and Jaats got their reservation.

Moral of the story:

Be like a Jaat...Do NOT have a leader...no one will land in jail and you will get what you want.

Be your own leader...to enact a new Law you need Disorder.

I started this thread for a purpose and now to wind it up I present what can be done by every one who is a TB member here:

1. Try to read and understand from the books (there are many available in the market) the essentials of our faith and sampradhayam. When you are in doubt ask the elders who are knowledgeable and try to get the clarifications to complete your understanding. This understanding is essential so that you can tell your children when they ask you questions.

2. Try to celebrate as many religious festivals as possible in the family. This is tradition. Traditions act as anchor when the pulls of time make youngsters stray and drift. Drift is dangerous. If you take your children to the temple when there is a utsav, they will make it a point to come to the village from the far off California for celebrating the utsav year after year. The impressions matter.

3. Tell your children about your values, traditions and heritage and explain the importance of them. A kolam in the front yard of your flat should be shown to be an expression of creativity first time in the morning, than as some wasteful effort at drawing funny patterns. There are several such things.

4. For heaven sake, talk a lot with your children. Find time to do that. They will be better because of that effort on your part. Make it a point to spend time discussing several things while taking dinner every day. Involve even reticent children in the discussions. They will benefit. You too will benefit because you would know in time the causes of all stress in your children's mind. You may be able to help them cope with that.

5. Leaving children to mend for themselves may sound a revolutionary theory. It is not. There is nothing wrong in closely watching from the periphery what is happening without being intrusive.

6. Never never encourage by words or deed iC/IR marriages. Children read a lot of meaning into what you say and do. Be carefull. IC/IR marriages are not good for the community. Let us keep our unique identity in tact.

Commun ity can be organized only when the individual members are disciplined. Let us hope members who read these line follow the discipline and then when the organizing efforts begin participate actively.

This is what Sringeri Acharya Sri Chandrasekhara Bharati told a person way back in the 40s when he wanted to start a formal Organization to promote Brahminical values etc . This is what exactly he said : "If we want to infuence anybody else by our teachings. we must scrupulously carry them out ourselves in actual practice. How can one who does not know to swim help others to cross river? Society is nothing but a group of Individuals. If every individual attends carefully to the duties allotted to him, the society will automatically improve. If he begins to engage himself first in the reforming of others, it will not only the be fruitless but will lead only to controversy and hatred. If we lead a good life, some people be inclined to follow our example. If we lead a bad life, they are also likely to go astray. The responsibility of any person who is the head of a family, the principal man of his locality or the “leader” of a country, is necessarily therefore very great. It may be possible in the field of politics or other secular sphere to make a mass appeal to a crowd and to try to move it by rhetoric and influence its thoughts; but it is quite ineffective region of spiritual endeavour. "

hi

nice words...theoritically very good..but in reality ....present day education/freedom of speech makes a lot difference...

And stop not until the viagra wears off. LORL.

Post 1 was like setting off a fire cracker during Diwali season. High expectations set. All are asked to stay away!

Then there is this talk of Viagra, a connection only God knows - so much for organization of this thread LOL

In the end end the cracker does not fire but only emits a lot of gas LOL
Is that where the thread is headed? LOL

Sorry to dampen the spirits!

Most of the members here have crossed the age of advising their 'children'!
