uperfast trains levied and collected Rs 11.27 crores from passengers as 'superfast' surcharges
Superfast trains were delayed more than 95% times. News
In my college days, if a student comes late to the class, he used to be fined. So too the superfast trains fine their passengers for its running late. Superfast surcharge is a "late" surcharge levied on the passengers to pay it in advance even before the train departs. It is a superfast fine.

Nuclear families, cause for depression
“Physical contact, sensory stimulation and social interactions help to enhance the spatial recognition and learning process. Neurotic degeneration is also found to be less in the rats which were given the social cage. Now-a-days we have the trend of nuclear families and this could also be one of the reasons for the increased anxiety levels. With more communication and family connections, the chronic stress-induced problems could be reduced,” explains Dr. Venkanna Rao Bhagya, Department of Neurophysiology, NIMHANS, first author of the paper.

NEET exemption: 5 ministers rush to Delhi. News
Why all this halloballo? Exempt Tamil students from all exams right from first standard to the PostGraduate level. There should be no competitive exams of any sort in Tamil Nadu that will discriminate person to person and that will increase disparities between the rural and the urban sectors. That will result in an ideal egalitarian society for which our dravidian parties strive. Schools and colleges are responsible for creating disparities and inequalities between students. Do away with all those bloody things. THAT IS SOCIAL JUSTICE. ANY OTHER THING IS SOCIAL INJUSTICE.

Jet airways dumps its waste in Chennai lake. News
Do they think that airways wastes are superior and a by dumping them in Chennai lake, they are rendering a superior service?
The airways should stop doing it ( and not dump it unhygienically elsewhere transferring the problem) and BEAR THE ENTIRE COST OF CLEANING THE LAKE AND PUTTING IT BACK INTO PROPER USE.

What is the sudden urge for Kamalahasan of late to talk politics so seriously.
Is he going to release any new picture?
HE IS A SELF PROCLAIMED ( HALF BAKED) GENIUS TO BE AVOIDED AND SHOULD BE TAUGHT A FITTING LESSON BY ALL.
By replying to him and taking sides with him, they are only making him a hero in real life, which he does not deserve.
As somebody suggested, as a result of some financial loss he suffered recently, he has nothing to worry about Income Tax now and to make up for the loss, he wants to join politics. What he is now doing is a preparation for the same.

A 36-year-old woman biker from Bandra was killed after she lost control of her Bullet on a pothole-ridden road from Dahanu to Jawahar Road, fell down and came under the rear tyre of a truck on Sunday morning. Police said Jagruti Hogale, a homemaker, died on the spot due to severe injuries.
IN THE PREVAILING ROAD CONDITIONS OF MOST OF OUR TOWNS AND CITIES, it is a great wonder that the casualty is much LESS than what is possible ,thanks to the extra care that most of the two-wheelers take.

India will not allow driverless cars to ply on its roads, Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari said on Monday.
The minister added that focus of the government is to create more jobs to arrest unemployment. "How can we allow such vehicles when we already have huge number of unemployed people?" Gadkari asked while interacting with reporters at his residence in the national capital.
Many cars, trucks and lorries in our country seem to be already driverless. But coming to the point:
IS THIS A RIGHT APPROACH? THEN EVERY MECHANISATION, INDUSTRIALISATION AND COMPUTERISATION WOULD HAVE TO BE STOPPED TO PROVIDE MORE EMPLOYMENT. THIS WILL BE DETRIMENTAL TO ALL PROGRESS. If this logic is stretced, by introducing trains and buses, we have replaced thousands and thousands of carts, coaches and so on, causing unemployment to millions of people. SO WILL YOU GO BACK AND STOP ALL THOSE MODES OF TRANSPORT?
You must think of alternatives that will generate more jobs and not kill progress and development, unless the development is destructive of the environment.

My mother died at Madurai in the year 1988 and I had the horrific experience of cremating her at Thathaneri burial cum burning ghat. ( I do not how it is now, nor a need or necessity to know about it) The condition at the burial ground was so horrible, I decided not to die! That is what made me think of the conditions prevailing in burial cum burning ghats in our country.
Death management is a very neglected issue in our country. We keep the environs of our crematoria in such a horrid state that one feels more scared of the conditions there than the death of the near and dear departed soul itself. Many of our large towns in the country need a clean and hygienic environ that will add dignity and honour to the departed soul. The existing ones need proper maintenance and better management.
'Govinda Dhamam', the state-of-the-art crematorium developed on a one-acre site at Thimminaidupalem on the city outskirts (Thirupathi) is almost a case study on managing death, funeral ceremony and memorial services.
THE SERVICE OF MAINTAINING THE CREMATORIA AND PROVIDING FACILITIES FOR THE BEREAVED TO CONDUCT THE LAST RITES IS ONE OF THE NOBLEST.

Class VII student dies, sister, 11 others inured after van overturns. HeadlineNews
Very often we come across such news and take it as a part of our life. But I was just wondering when I read "11 students were INURED" and I could not understand that. What is there for 11 people to get inured as the van overturns. When I went through the news proper, I found that 11 people were INJURED, not INURED. This is just a spelling mistake. But such mistakes have become very common now in most of our well recognised and popular newspapers and magazines. When you and I make a mistake, it is just a mistake which we can ignore, but when reputed papers commit such mistakes, they are blunders that cannot be ignored. They have to do better proof reading.

Man kills wife as her chappatis not round. News
The man has a mind that was unsound. Otherwise would he have dared to murder his wife who has all the appliances necessary to retaliate, including knives and other solid vessels which could have been used as a missile to attack? That is one of the reasons why many men are afraid of their wives.

Vande Mataram compulsary
Madras HC makes Vande Mataram mandatory in schools, govt and private offices
If any person/organisation has difficulty in singing or playing the song (?) they shall not be compelled or forced to sing it, provided there are valid reasons for not doing so, the judge ruled
"If people feel it difficult to sing the song in Bengali or in Sanskrit, steps can be taken to translate the song in Tamil," the judge said
This mandate itself is very confusing and seems to be apologetic
In Tamil Nadu, some fringe elements waiting to create trouble wilol now make a mountain of the mole hill.;

pen drain a threat to road users in Hyderabad. News
Not only in Hyderabad. Everywhere they are open, they are threats
Out for a walk, the young man was "out" for ever. The gaping holes of the drains, the sewer lines with open manholes are all invitations for death whether it rains or scorches. Any one goes out for a leisurely walk on our roads, walkways and side paths must ensure that they insure. . Whether people cover themselves with insurance or not , it is essential that these open invitations for death should be covered. The municipalities or corporation responsible for this hazardous situation must be made answerable. But these happenings seem to be repetitive and are treated as a routine occurrence and totally forgotten a few days after the unfortunate deaths. Even arterial and main roads are no exception to this sort of a situation. We treat these things just as "news" and nothing more, until and unless the one involved is one of our kith and kin. We fail to learn even after many loss of life.

MENSTRUAL HOLIDAY
That the world is round has again been proved. In the good old days, it was a practice to keep women free from domestic chores and domestic duties and to keep them undisturbed during those days, ( "out of doors' as it was known).. Later on it turned out to be total ostracisation of the ladies on those three or four days in a month. Scientifically speaking, it was a good practice. These women got complete rest on those days. But in certain cases, they were secluded to such an extent, that their safety and comfort was given a go by. All poojas and temple worship were prevented in their own interest and as any other good , this practice was also put into abuse in due course. But in these modern days, when women are also going to the office besides attending to their routine domestic chores and taking care of children, they definitely need to be free from stress and strain at least during these days in the interest of their health and welfare. Hence giving them leave on those days is a welcome move

A new study shows that the age-old ritual of blowing out the candles on birthday cakes leaves the dessert ridden with bacteria.
In Hindu tradition blowing out a lamp is considered an ILL OMEN.
Probably, we can light a lamp, slice idly or anything which the individual likes the most and sharing it will be more Indian with a native song blessing the individual.

Here’s why you should not blow out birthday candles!
New study shows blowing out birthday candles increases bacteria on the cake's icing exponentially.

Protecting the tigers ( Nothing to do with LTTE)
Why save this ferocious animal at all? Tigers are what conservationists call “umbrella” species. By saving them, we save everything beneath their ecological umbrella - everything connected to them - including the world's last great forests, whose carbon storage mitigates climate change. Vidya Venkat has written more about it in this newspaper of April 17, 2016.
What all does a tiger reserve offer? The 2017 paper above lists the following: (1) employment generation, (2) agriculture (incidentally the famous IR-8 rice was discovered from the wild rice plants found in one such reserve), (3) fishing, (4) fuel wood, (5) fodder and grazing, (6) timber, (7) pollination of plants, (8) kendu leaves, (9) carbon storage and sequestration (vital for climate protection against global warming), (10) water and its purification by filtering organic wastes, (11) soil conservation, (12) nutrient cycling, and (13) moderation of extreme events such as cyclone storms, flash floods. Add to these cultural ones like tourism, education, research and development, and spiritual ones (like visiting temples within some of them).

Tiger reserves: Economic and environmental win-win
The headline in a recent PTI report “Saving 2 tigers gives more value than Mangalyaan”’ was intriguing, since it said that saving two tigers yields a capital benefit of ₹520 crores, while Mangalyaan c

NEW DELHI: A committee, set up to submit an action plan for restoring Yamuna floodplains, today told the National Green Tribunal that there was no compaction of the soil on the site where the Art of Living's (AOL) three-day cultural extravaganza was held last year.
The report assumes significance as its findings are different to those of an earlier seven-member expert panel which had alleged that the Yamuna floodplains were completely destroyed due to the World Cultural Festival of AOL.
So now will a third committee be formed to abide by the majority decisions?
