In a sarcastic take on Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's claim that there would be an earthquake if he speaks on "personal corruption" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi+ , NCP president Sharad Pawar on Saturday said the MPs were worried what would be their fate in case that happened.

"Members of Parliament were scared and worried how they would get out of the Parliament building after the quake. But, since there was no earthquake, there is a feeling that we can sleep peacefully," the veteran politician said when asked what he thought of Rahul Gandhi's claim.

It all started with his golden remarks that he has some information about Modi's personal corruption and MODI IS TERRIFIED. Then it was followed on the first day by a statement that he is going to cause earthquake, the next day, it was the balloon getting busted. The third day it was firebombing and today, it is Modi made disaster. He is thus making a joker of himself amidst his own party men and allies. He thinks that making such tall and unsound talks will qualify him to be the unquestioned leaders of congress.

THIRUPATHI LADDUS

The Tirupati management said its kitchen is an auspicious place where outsiders cannot be admitted, and hence getting a food safety licence was out of the question and unnecessary for the laddus prepared there. News

With more than 3 lakh laddus being churned out every day and reports that the kitchen has been modernised with conveyor belts to deliver the laddus from the kitchen to the counter and so forth, what harm would a public health scrutiny possibly do? The Tirupati laddu got a Geographical Indication tag in 2009, and is thus protected from misuse of name or recipe. I don't find any reason why these laddus should be exempted from public health scrutiny. I remember having read the news last year that a keychain was found in one of the laddus. To me cleanliness is Godliness and to question any move that will ensure cleanliness and safety is Ungodliness. We are very poor in keeping our temple premises very unclean. Those who have seen Hindu temples abroad will agree with me. There is a dire necessity to keep our temples clean. We don't know whether the holy water ( Theertham) offered in our temples are unpolluted and safe. Because only a few drops are given as Theertham, because most of us Indians have immunity (and equally ignorant of cleanliness), we do not worry about these things. ( the way in which we practice cleanliness-மடி- is dubious and does not confer cleanliness)

If you say Ganges is heavily polluted and dirty, people will blame you for being profane, but they won't blame people who pollute it. This is our attitude. This should change and everyone of us should strive hard to keep our divine environment, the temples and other holy places clean. The prasadams offered also form part of this cleanliness. They should be clean and safe as per international standards. Thiruppathi laddus cannot be an exception and subjecting the laddus to scrutiny and check is not an anti god measure but a purely pro god measure. And I think the authorities and the Brahmins who prepare these laddus should welcome the move instead of criticising it. When it has accepted science and technology in its kitchen by modernising it, why hesitate to accept the

Public health scrutiny which is part of that science and technology. If you call me atheist for my view, I would like to say all those who disagree with me are practising atheism directly or indirectly.

Facebook post: Writer Kamal C Chavara detained on charges of insulting national anthem. ...... The custody of this man has raised criticism from human rights activists and others. News

The fellow deserves to be arrested. Even if it is posted out of context, he deserves prosecution. I think there is something fundamentally wrong with the human rights activists, because they always seem to take the cause of the wrong people and argue for them at the cost of the victims. Who are the others who joined this HRO? Book all these fellows so that other such fellows can learn a lesson.

The lower your education, the more likely you are to have a heart attack or a stroke -- that's the disturbing but clear finding from our research," said lead researcher Dr Rosemary Korda from the Australian National University. News

Over qualification leads to heart attacks, according to me. If you have acquired the qualification by your sincere studies or efforts, that stress is likely to cause heart attack in you and if not in you, in others. e.g., MM SINGH. If you are less qualified, the very complex may cause some heart burn. But qualification by itself is not responsible for heart attacks. I have seen many with less qualifications living for long and those with higher qualification dying of heart attack much younger.

UK to make spitting a criminal offence. News

What is a national hobby in India is made a criminal offence in UK , indirectly preventing Indians from migrating to England. I think there must be a rally held in India in protest against the British discrimination against Indians, the one field, namely, spitting competition, in which I am sure Indians can win a Gold Medal in Olympics (if distance spitting is included as one of the sport items!)

Many years ago in Scotland , a new game was invented.

It was ruled 'Gentlemen Only...Ladies Forbidden'.. ....

And thus, the word GOLF entered into the English language.

The less said about the civic sense of our people, the better. Be it spitting or throwing rubbish, we have scant regard for civic sense. But what is the modus operandi of catching hold of the guilty and penalise the person? Which agency will be responsible for such an act? Will there be a mobile court to punish the guilty then and there? I suspect that there will be a big hue and cry from some of the political parties that such a move is anti poor. Will this rule also be obse...

Justice delayed is justice denied. In the present case, justice has been meted out within about three years, which is reasonable. But the criminals will be getting lot of opportunities by way of appeals after appeals and finally a presidential clemency, which will defeat the very purpose of justice. In such serious and gruesome cases, swift action should be taken to punish the guilty and not prolong the case until most of the criminals die a natural death. There must be some provision to finish such cases within a period of less than five years. Only then real justice would have been rendered.

TURMERIC IN NEW AVATARS
In Tamil Nadu, for years many
restaurants serve thick masala milk with turmeric, badam and nut meg. Kesar-badam milk, Palmgur milk and other variants, which are believed to be good for health are also in use in many places . Restaurants used to have pasum paal (cows milk), panankalkandu milk (palmgur) and masala milk, called hot kesar-badam milk served with saffron.
Masala milk has been one of the favourite bed time drink in several parts of Tamilnadu even to day. It used to be flavoured with badam, pista and kesar. Turmeric milk with sugar, sliced badam, cardamom, a bit of pepper and kesar is a common drink in many households also.
This humble turmeric, a quick and handy remedy for sore throats in many Indian homes and used as a spice in Indian kitchens from time immemorial has now attained a super drink status at cafes from Sydney to San Francisco. The brew has taken a new avatar there and is called Turmeric Latte or Golden Milk. The spice is being mixed with juice from almonds and cashews and is the most popular drink today in the west and has become Choice drink of the year 2016. Since it has its origin in the west, it will be branded as a super drink and marketed by MNCs which we Indians will patronise and purchase with a sense of pride at a prohibitive cost as a status symbol in place of the simple masala milk that we already have. Like coco cola replacing the conventional healthy Indian drinks, this will come with its big brand name and replace our simple, healthy masala milk in due course. Already many traditional Indian drinks have buckled under Coke, Pepsi, Seven up and so on and have disappeared. Now it will be the turn of Indian Masala milk to disappear. Lack of a scientific quality control is the main reason for our native drinks to disappear. It is time that some agencies take up manufacturing of healthy traditional Indian drinks before they are usurped by foreign agencies

Sunshine in a spoon
With turmeric latte the newest beverage fad in the West, its meteoric rise has had Indian restaurants and bars upping the ante with all things turmeric.

70 snakes seized from Pune flat, two arrested

PUNE: Over 70 snakes mostly deadly Russell's vipers and cobras illegally kept for extracting venom have been seized from a residential apartment where a man was living with his wife and children.

Ranjit Kharage, 37, was arrested along with his alleged accomplice, identified as Dhananjay Belkute, 30, for allegedly keeping the snakes in wooden boxes and gunny bags for extracting and selling venom, police said today.

The seizure was made yesterday from the rented apartment of Kharage, where he was living with his family.

"We recovered 41 Russell's vipers and 31 cobras from one of the rooms in the flat and investigations have revealed that the duo allegedly extracted venom from these reptiles and used to sell or smuggle it," said a police inspector, attached to Chakan Police station.

What about the other snakes such as Sonia, Rahul, Kejriwal, Mamatha, Mayavathi and others who are freely roaming in the country with their venomous tongues?

Woman suffers electric shock at Jayalalithaa burial site in Chennai. News

Jayalalitha's death seems to have already caused many deaths due to shock. Her death seems to continue to give shock to her fans. In a place which is visited by thousands of people each day, how can such a thing be allowed to happen? Carelessness on the part of the authorities concerned. Don't allow people to die of electrical shocks and then add it to the list of those who died of Jaya's death shock.

Bride and prejudice

75 percent of non Scheduled Caste respondents in Delhi and 70 per cent in Uttar Pradesh said that they would oppose a child or close relative marrying a Dalit. There was even greater opposition to inter-religious marriages. In Delhi, about 60 per cent of Hindus said they would oppose a child or relative marrying a Muslim; a similar fraction of Muslims would oppose a child or relative marrying a Hindu. In Uttar Pradesh, the opposition was even greater: about 75 per cent of Hindus opposed marriages with Muslims, and only a slightly lower fraction of Muslims, about 70 per cent, opposed marriages with Hindus. this is more or less the case with the entire country.the political parties and the government are more interested in creating hatred and prejudices between castes and regularising the caste divide by treating the castes as their vote bank.
before abolishing caste which is well nigh impossible, the parties and government should help to remove the antagonism between castes. will any party come forward to do that? I have my own doubts.

Talking to children about untouchability. News

It is said that quite a sizeable number of people practice untouchability and are caste conscious. The caste consciousness has increased over the years instead of decreasing with increase in social mobility. Most of our political parties are responsible for this state of affairs. It is politicians all over the country who have REGULARISED castes and promoted caste distinctions. Numerical majority is what matters in our democracy and whichever community is dominant in a locality becomes a vote bank chased by the political parties with that label. This has resulted in the segregation of certain sections of people like the Dalits who out of necessity had to form their own political groups for their survival. The reasonable incentives given to them have led to similar demands by the numerically larger caste groups and today, this has reached a disproportionately higher percent of reservation exceeding 50% permissible under the constitution and irrespective of their social status, the demand for reservation grows day by day only based on their numerical strength, irrespective of whether they are socially and economically sound. There seems to be particular hatred against Dalits because they enjoy enormous advantages over others and some others among them misusing the privileges conferred on them. It is suggested that children should be taught to avoid untouchabilty. This won't help. Children learn better by observing and it is for the elders to inculcate in them the sin of untouchability. So it is necessary for elders not to practice untouchability. The concept of caste should itself be eliminated from the minds of children from their young age. Politicians have a major role to play, but unfortunately they thrive on caste differences and therefore, I din't see any redemption in this respect in the near future.
