When I was young there was a film song, 'ivvLavuthAn ulagam ivvaLavutAn' for a cabaret dance and I did not

make out the meaning then. Now when many threads go in a particular direction, I understand!!

It seems there are family specific customs added to (or subtracted) community specific customs.

I sometimes wonder whether cinema inspires customs or vice versa. In most of the tv serials last week, suffering wives threw the thalis with lot of gusto.

There is one more custom! On the wedding night, the groom is served 'paal chaadham' in a silver plate!

Groom keeps some money under the plate and it is collected by the sister of the bride, who cleans the plate later.

There was even a sort of 'sambandhi chandai' for packing the silver plate, before serving 'pAl chAdham'

for the groom, during the wedding of one of my cousins! It is a custom in many Kerala brahmin families.

Wonder how Kunjuppu Sir is not aware of this. :)

hi RR madam...

just for u.....Aimbathilum Aasai Varum

Dear TBS, Greetings.

I never could digest this song " aimbathilum aasai varum"... does that mean 'aasai' goes away at some point before 50? I am well past 50.... when I was 50 aasai did not 'come back'.. it did not go away in the first place, if you know what I mean! I think, when I pack it up, aasai may not 'come back' again.. but I am not packing up in a hurry either!

Cheers!

Raghy Sir

Adakkam amararul uykkum... adangaamai... Fill it up, please! ( Once I said that to my wife.. she said " karmam! you boys think of anything else?" Hahaha!

I am very innocent. I am only following the tone of the article cited in the OP.

Cheers!
