We can try reaching out to those in chennai if we can do something for them .

Probably the internet has gone down due to lack of power supply and inability to recharge.

Even the ATMs are not working in many places.

Some mob companies are giving free talk time, BSNL land lines if working are free .

But we do not have access to their numbers.

I am going to chennai in next few days.

I would like to know if anyone is distressed for me to reach them.

I have some close relatives in distressed areas like ashok nagar , tambaram , velacheri .

It would be a good idea to reach out by going there and directly meeting them

The rains should taper of in couple of weeks .

Surely in times of distress , some reaching out is called for.

Let us get info about our members to start with

I have posted my anguish in the Chennai Rains thread about myself not able to reach out to my parents & sisters family in Saligramam & Nanganallur..There is no power and network is down..They have only Airtel mobiles...BSNL is the only network that is working...

Pray God Almighty for speedy restoraion of normalcy in Chennai. Vedios receieved on Whatsapp are highly disturbing. May God give enough strength to withstand this moment of diffuculty to all chennaites who are affected. You are in my prayers Chennai. Am in touch with certain people who are really on ground and helping out people. you are doing good work bros.. May God help..

My cousin is using FB to reach out to friends. She is a teacher and has an army of students who follow her. She has been able to send out these friends to peoples homes and come back and inform. She was successful on contacting my elderly friend.

My niece from Nanganallur contacted me through BSNL land line...It seems power was restored for a short duration...My parents also have communicated that they are safe..Now power is again switched off

It seems most people I know are safe - stuck without power for most part. I hope the rain subsides in a week or so. I am hoping to visit Chennai for few days in mid January - hope life be back to normal by then!

I know our forum owner Sri Praveen is in Chennai - hopefully he and his family are doing fine.

hi

there is no communication from Raji madam/praveen/sreenivan from ambattur....my mom is in chennai..no communication so far..

I hope members in Chennai are fine.

I was seeing Makkal TV here which covered the flood scene and it seems really bad.

Its just a concern how people will get food and clean drinking water.

I hope our forum members are all right. Most of them are not too young..just a bit worried for them.

Post #8:"...there is no communication from Raji madam/praveen/sreenivan from ambattur."

I guess there may be several others like Mr. YesMohan, Dr. Dinesh, and other silent Members. Where is Mr. PJ Sir?

Since many places have no power, no signal from the Mobile Towers, no Internet connectivity, they may not be in a position to contact us even though they may want to assure us of their safety.

May all the Members be safe under the umbrella of the Divine protection!

I was able to establish contact with one of my friend in Tambaram today Saturday 5th December 2015, 8:30 AM Indian Standard Time. His voice was very clear over Airtel Network. He said it was raining torrentially then in Tambaram area. He was not sure about other parts of Madras.

Could someone update about situation in Madras especially in North Madras in general and in areas like Anna Nagar, Tirumangalam, Mogappair.

Hi all,
I am good. We are safe.
I don't live inside the city (since 2013) and hence this area was not affected much when compared to the most other parts.
We only had ankle deep water outside the house and a huge infestation of frogs.
The roads also cleared in few hours.
There was no power for 2 days but since yday power is also back.
Internet is down. BSNL is the only network available here so they are down.
I am on Airtel mobile network so no disruption. All other mobile networks were down or in the process of coming back up.
Bank ATMs are down. Where i am there are atleast 20 atms but only 3 were working yday evening. KVB bank network is fully down (friday evening 7pm)

Most parts of the city is fine now.

Still affected areas include
Manali, Velachery, OMR (Siruseri), Tambaram, Mudichur, Porur, Urapakkam, Royapuram, Parts of Avadi, Perambur, Otteri.
Waterlogging in these areas and no power.
But relief is going out to these places and they should be fine. Relief ppl did not go to some of these North Madras areas as there were "goondas" and "drunk ppl" misbehaving with volunteers (a friend of mine faced this issue). Last heard police protection is being given and relief has started.

Do not believe what Sun News is saying. Its all absolutely nonsense. They showed a part of Mylapore that was flooded till neck deep water. But you could see ppl walking about in just knee deep water right behind the news reporter.

All phones/internet are not working up to yesterday; everything comes near normal today in many parts.

I am in a safer place at Chromepet. In my area / apartment there is no water logging. Current was not available on the night of 02.12.2015 and on the day of 03.12.2015. Now available for 6/8 x hours in the day. In night also electricity is available. I have inverter and therefore power is not a problem to me.Drinking water is available with my supplier. Only, milk is a scarce item for two days. But I don't have any problem.
The only problem I had to encounter is phone & net work connection since 03.12.2015. From today that is also ok.

In West Tambaram area Mudichur, Krishna Nagar, CTO Colony, Varadharajapuram and many parts of Urapakkam. Adhanur, Vandalur, Esat Tambaram, OMR. Velachery, Pallikkaranai, Thuraipakkam are worst hit areas.
So also Ekkattuthankal, Jafferkhanpet, parts of Nesapakkam, KK Nagar, Ashok Nagar are much affected by water logging.
I do not have a fair information about North Madras.
To day, I come to know that more than 60 / 70% of water has drained in many areas.
If there is no rain for the next 2/3 days, City would be limping back to normal.
To repair the damages, it would take a month.

I am safe in Adyar and we never had power on 2,3,4th Dec but today things are back to normal . Adjacent Kotturpuram Area was hit badly by this flood . Only hope and pray that it does not rain again and spoil whatever relief work that is being done .
BTW Any news about the damage that Ashoka Nagar Area experienced ? It seems Ashok Nagar and West Mambalam had problems due to water ?

I am safe.

The area, where I live, which is virtually on the bank of river Adyar was inundated with heavy flood on all sides and with the result we were isolated like an island and totally disconnected from the outside world.

There was lot of problem experienced in rescuing the affected families. Each family was having its own problem like one family was having a wedding within two days, the other having a paralytic attacked bed ridden patient requiring immediate medical attention, one family had just born twins and others who were reluctant to come out to be accommodated in the temporary shelter arranged.

One of my relatives family, whose house was inundated, was accommodated with us.

The boat that was arranged to rescue the marooned went break down, to our disappointment.

My son who came from Bangalore brought relief materials which he arranged through his contacts, like biscuits, milk and drinking water bottles. These were distributed to most affected in our locality.

There was no mobile connectivity. None of us could be contacted and we are unable to contact any of our kith and kin most of whom are settled abroad.

There was no cable connection and TV sets went silent

There was no power supply which brought everything to a halt, I mean right from drinking water (R.O), food stuff, vegetables, medicine, milk, petrol, supplies. etc. etc

Only now normalcy is returning with restoration of power supply, cable connection, internet facility, etc.

I thank the God for the opportunity of being able to accommodate few relatives with us and to provide relief materials to affected sections in our area.

Sri Rishikesan ,

Thank you for your kind offer. Most people I know in Chennai have been resourceful and doing fine despite power cuts and flooding in the road/ basements.

It is nice to know our members are safe and are sharing their direct experience as to how they dealt with this unprecedented rain & flood.

hi

i just talked to my tenant in thiruvanmiyur area....everything safe....only power cut was for three days....today restored....

Well done Bala Sir!
Appreciate the rescue and relief work carried out by your family!
