P.H.C in West Mambalam was started about 60 years back , by selfless brahmins to ensure medical assistance to poorer people in that area surrounding lake- iew road. It has grown to that extent , apart from regular O.P.D. facilities, specialists regularly visit covering all specialisations available in big hospitals. The rates are Rs 100/flat for all doctors. What else one need?
Since I reside in Kodambakkam, close to hospital, get regular treatment & feel happy , since doctors are sincere.
Deliveries take place in large numbers & all poor/ middle class Brahmins feel happy & fully satisfied, min. expenses with full mental satisfaction
A.Srinivasan( rishikesan)
Retied persons in the Area do volunterring in the morning rush hours guide the patients by directing tem to proper counters No loitering anywhere. Peaceful.

Areas like west mambalam with a huge brahmin presence and ashok nagar are badly hurt by raising waters without much relief flowing in.

These areas are skipped by relief agencies.

They are nobodys votebanks it appears.

Now the issues have become more political.

TV Channels depending on political leanings are presenting contradictory pictures .

Some flights have started taking off from chennai. Private airlines from chennai/bangalore are charging exorbitant amounts to get away from these places.

IT companies have booked all the hotels to house their employees from chennai to continue their operations. So hotel accomodation crisis in bangalore. Though married

employees are happy that they can stay there with wife and children , singles with parents in chennai are hurt as they haveto leave their aged parents behind due to

call of duty . Even in crisis, these IT majors think of only foreign clients and making money. Private bus operators in chennai to AP and karnataka have jacked up the

rates. Autos are charging exorbitantly fleecing the poor wanting to go to koyembedu to catch buses to interior cities in tamilnadu.Once things return to slight normalcy

all the human vultures move in to exploit those in distress. How sad.

It is the low-lying areas that were badly affected due to the deluge irrespective of the fact whether people live there are Brahmins or other castes. Water, which is an element of nature, doesn’t seem to have any caste discrimination.

And it is the Municipal Councilors and local leaders who explored the agencies concerned for getting maximum benefit through relief materials to their interested and affected areas.

And it was not just water that flooded the areas of Chennai, but it was also the relief materials that poured from all sides to the affected from good hearts.

People of Chennai have found opened their hearts and homes for the strangers..

Most of the roads were regulated by volunteers drawn from different walks of life and I can find even young girls standing in knee-deep water and regulating traffic for hours together.

Most of the schools, cinema halls and other places have opened their premises and provided accommodation at night as shelter to the most affected.

Some found to offer food pockets and there were few sought the services of volunteers to take the food pockets and to distribute them to the needy.

All the good samaritans coming together to help the flood affected Chennaities. How nice it is.

One thing that I observed was that West Mambalam and Ashok Nagar were not covered much during this flood crisis in Chennai .

Shri Vikrama-ji(who contributes to this forum) lives in west mambalam area. Hope he is safe.

Hope Chennai and people in Chennai are resilient and come back to normalcy soon from the big floods.

Any news or updates regarding Raji Madam ? She is from KK Nagar which also saw massive flooding ?

I have been trying to contact her through land line for the past few days and the recorded reply I receive is "ALL lines IN THIS ROUTE ARE BUSY. PLEASE TRY AFTER SOME TIME"

As I have seen the post on another Thread and I want to assuage the disturbed feelings and concern of the Members posting here, I have taken the liberty to do the cross-posting, in good faith. Hope the concerned Members, Raji ma'm, Renukaji, VR Madam will not be offended by this and will pardon me in case I've stepped out of the line. Sorry in advance!

dear Renu,
Mrs. R.R and Mr. Ram have temporarily shifted to his youngest brother's house in the next street. They are safe and sound. Mr. Ram's elder brother in a palatial house next door was watching the fun of the rain, foods and their miseries! :(
I now believe that relatives are just like the dry leaves floating on the water surface unattached to one another. Some times they move closer and other times they drift away - driven by Destiny!

Dear Sri Lalith
Glad to note that Raji Mam and her husband are safe in Ram's younger brothers house . Thanks for the update .

Good news is that the water has started draining. Reports says in certain areas, it is completed drained. But the real problems are yet to open up. Exposure to filthy conditions can spread so many deceases. Chennai needs a lot more Prayers!!

thank you mr moorthy. i was confined to bed for the past two months. now i am well again and began to visit internet only today.
the flood waters from chembarambakkam passed through among others west mambalam. there was hip-deep water in our street flowing very fast like cauvery in floods. the ground floor flats were inundated. luckily i live on first floor and was able to help less fortunate ones.
no power from tuesday morning to sunday night. then it went off on monday morning onlyto be restored on tuesday morning.
compared to most people i know here, we are fortunate.

Thank you Vikramaji for updating the group on your safety! It is good samaritans like you from higher floors & from those houses that were not flooded, who have kept humanity alive and kicking in Chennai!

hi

this is update abt my home in chennai in thiruvanmiyur area....

After lot of unfortunate happenings at Chennai, today I could connect to you through msg

Chennai received 119.4 cm rain in the month of November 2015 as against the previous record of 108.2 cm way back in 1918

In the first two days of December once again record rain of around 50 cm occurred

This rain brought misery to the people living in low lying area

We could see the same just back side of our Compound wall

Though it is more than 10 days , the water is still stagnating adjoining to our compound to the height of one feet

Yesterday only the officials pumped the water to the level of one feet from 2 to 3 feet and restored power supply to Journalist Colony and the neighboring housing board apartments.

In our apartment , we have not faced much of the difficulty except for three days power cut, restricting to know what is happening outside. and constraint in water use though water was available in the sump. We all lifted water from the and used it.Luckily enough water was available in the sump

No water stagnation in front of our Apartment from the start of the rain when you left Chennai

Thirivanmiyur Beach road was cut in two place to drain the rain water

People are suffering a lot where water flooded

Kotturpuram,Saidapettai ,T.Nagar and RA puram flooded because of heavy discharge in Adyar

Though no damage to us and we are concerned of the people affected by the rain/flood

this is email from my tenant in chennai.....

Dear Lalit Ji,

No problems.

In fact I was going to respond to the post today regarding Raji Madam ..thank you very much for pasting the post from Think and Sink here.

I haven't emailed Raji madam yet cos I am sure she would not be online at present.

I can only imagine the amount of cleaning everyone has to do once the floods are done with.

My only experience with a flood was when I was in 1st standard in North Malaysia and we had to attend school sitting in classes in ankle deep water and the I remember falling into a small drain cos I did not know a drain was there. Finally when the water reached knee level the schools were closed.

I still remember my house ground floor flooded with knee deep water and we even took pics.

I was happily sitting in a big plastic tub and made my dog jump it and used a stick to move myself around the flood water.

Then I remember the clean up job ..the house was full of mud.

The person to mind should be Mrs RRji . Her personal life has been compromised.

It is not proper to repost giving out her relationship with her extended family members

Dear Lalit ji,

You have posted that with good intentions so what is there for a misunderstanding?

Don't worry yaar..I usually only "fight" for real serious issues!LOL

To all my dear friends:

I read this thread only now and am overwhelmed with joy by your concern about my welfare.

We did have problems by the flooding of rain water in the house but it was not so bad as in other areas.

I managed for a few days living in the flooded house when the water was about five inches above floor level.

Learnt to walk with two tubs to support my legs and without getting wet! OMG! I feel my legs have become stronger

by this new exercise! (Every cloud has a silver lining, right?)

Our telephone exchange is the worst affected and the internet connection was restored three days back and still

the landlines are NOT working.

I do appreciate the EB authorities who cut off the power supply for a few days in our area; otherwise the death toll would

have risen considerably!
And......... now, we are used the no-milk-no servant maid-no electricity-no internet-no phone life also! :couch2:

Since there were in between stops for a few days during the downpour since November first week, we could manage

to get the provisions from the shops. I helped a few known poor people with essential things for managing daily food.

By God's grace, the water inside was only within one foot and hence all things are okay except the wooden furniture.

I once again thank all my friends for their kindness. :)

I agree, Krish Sir! Since internet was out, I could not visit forum and hence could not request for deletion of that post!
When I logged in for after many days, it was too late. :ranger:

Dear Raji Madam, first, I apologize unconditionally for any goof-up that I may have done which may have caused you mental disturbance and agitation. I have great regard and respect for you and admire you very much for all your talents and your bubbly comraderie and bon homie spirit.
I request you to understand and appreciate that it was done only and only with good intention to convey the info about your safety to the concerned members as soon as I read their posts as I had earlier read about your then safe status from the posts on the thread ‘Think or sink’ which (based on my general understanding and please correct me if I am wrong) are also open for all the Members of the forum and which Thread also attracts the maximum eyeballs (please correct me if I am wrong) and thought I should do the reposting as personally at my own level I wasn't aware about your safety. Maybe, in hind sight I should have referred the Members just to the Thread and the Post details without myself doing the repost. Or, I could have been silent but somehow I couldn't allow the Members to worry about you when I was having the info about your safety. It would have been nothing short of being cruel. it was an emotional traumatic period for many of us too who were having relatives and friends in Chennai. But I am not profering any excuses. I apologize unconditionally.
Yes, by the time I realized that I should edit the post, the function was disabled and I was helpless and very much upset as even though inadvertently I may be the cause for the “repost (emphasis added) giving out her relationship with her extended family members .”
Yes, I myself wanted to bring this post to your attention and seek your apologies in case you feel I have wronged you. So I apologize once again for any misunderstanding or anger that I may have caused you. I am sure you will understand and genuinely appreciate my position as I have no malice or ill-will towards you.

Dear Lalitha,

Absolutely no problems! You have only copy pasted from another thread which attracts many members in our forum.

You have posted it only to show that me and Ram are safe in Chennai. I know that your intention is good. :)
