Duelists did not stand back-to-back and
take ten paces before turning and

firing
at their opponent. Movies have created this misconception. :drama:

This reminds of my young nephew who says exactly what you wrote. LOL! Whenever a black and white is shown on T.V he says....."How could you see those movies!!! The hero and heroine looks like aunties and uncles and they singing duets doesn't it look odd to you? My mom and dad look younger than them. No dances in old films...stand at one place steadily and singing songs. He was commenting in one N.T.Rama Rao and Savithri singing a duet.

Those who are being shown as thinking woman are acting. Not real thinking women. As the director says they act.

Dear Renuka,

Your #10:

Wow. You said it. I would have clicked Like a hundred times if there is a provision. You said what I wanted to say.

Cheers.

KK Sir,

Thank you a gazillion times for this topic. I am a hugeee hugeee HUGEE fan of Sridevi's and I think shes a brilliant actor par excellence. Whether in glamour roles or serious, pre nose job, or post, Kollywood (wayy me scope to showcase her immense, immesne talent IMHO) or Bollywood, blue whale or nonjan Sridevi is the best actor I have seen in a long time. I loved her English Vinglish. Simply superb.

I only feel sorry for the the fact that despite her superlative resume and track record she still had to get a nose job and stuff to get into Bollywood all those years ago and her roles were nothing to shout about, agina IMHO. I had the pleasure of watching Meendum Kokila some weeks ago...and what can i say except that her acting brought tears to my eyes! (ananda kaneer!). I'm truly blessed to be living at the same time as this legend :)

I somehow do not like movies where I have to think!LOL

I love Tamil movies and Hindi movies especially B grade ones where movie is more on Romance and dancing around trees and fights where one guy hits a 100 guys.

Item numbers are a must! No item number I would not see movie!

I like comedy track especially double meaning comedy!LOL

Heroes and heroines need to look good!
I dont care if they can act or not.

Since I am paying money to see the movie I need to see people who are better looking than me on screen.

What's the use of seeing a movie where heroine is not at all pretty and the audience looks prettier to her!

I avoid movies which are nominated for Oscar or win the critics award!

They are bloody boring most of the while...I recommend my patients with insomnia to see such movies.

I avoid art movies especially art movies where actresses look oily and dirty!

Glamour! Glamour! ..I need Glamour on screen.

I like movies where woman are Bimbos cos story line is easy on the mind.

Bimbos come on screen..flash their flesh, lip sync their dialogue and just go.

I never watch a movie where a heroine can speak Tamil well and not dubbed cos those who speak Tamil well normally come with good acting skills and do not take up Glamour on screen.

Homely actresses should just stay in kitchen and do amma or suffering tangachi roles.

Most important, directors should know to stay behind the camera and not stand in front of camera.

Likes of Cheran should NOT be in front of Camera.

I like movies where there is dance after a bout of Daru Sharu where guys dance with Vesthis that have not known the laws of gravity!

After a long day of work...I really want to enjoy and relax and not spend time Thinking Winking seeing English Vinglish!LOL

P.S I like Sri Devi better as a Glamour Doll and not as a Thinking Woman.

I agree with some of this. But Cheran...wah wah...I think he is a brilliant director. I loved his pokkisham, mAyakannaadi and especially his Raman thediya Seethai. Really brilliant...no words. And its not because I consciously seek intelligent/serious cinema vis a vis glamour films. It just so happened that I found it simply marvellous, words cannot do justice really.

When I see any Movie...my habit is not to think about actor/actress perfomance alone.. As I said earlier..Sridevi is a good

actor ..but in my opinion..the EV carries more weight because of the script and the handling by the Director..The choice of

Sridevi for this particular character is a good thinking..

Cheran..?.. Yes I do agree with Renuka Madam.. He is a good Director and can do better if he REMAINS behind the camera..

His venture with Acting is just to save money towards Hero expense...!!.Pity is... Music composers like Prakash, Vijay

Antony ..all started acting..May God save the Tamil Film Industry..!!

TVK

Dear sir,

Sometimes I wish Cheran would make a female version of Autograph depicting a woman who travels back to memory lane to invite all her ex boyfriends or love interest(if she remembers their names still) for her wedding.

That Autograph movie was kind of Chauvinistic and so was Pokkisham...it seemed ok to him for a man to be pining away for his old love and ex girlfriends.

BTW Padma Priya looked like a hard boiled egg in that movie with bulging eyes and all covered up in white!LOL

She does not look nice with no hair shown.

One needs excellent features to look beautiful in a head scarf.

I wonder if the movie showed a son reading his mother's diary and goes out in an adventure seeking his mother's ex boyfriend how would have the audience reacted?

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai also had some diary reading stuff to find another wife for SRK.

I am waiting for any director to make a movie where a son looks for a mother's ex boyfriend/boyfriends.

I only remember one Tamil Movie where Revathi gets her unwed mother married to a widower doctor only to have her biological father show up after that.

One of the fans (?) of TVK Sir has given five * s to this thread!
Hat off to you Sir for starting the important topic of the day!! :yo:

Then what? Though there are only five 'like's given right now, someone is willing to click hundred 'like's, if there is a provision!

{
Somehow, he forgot to click even one 'like'! :typing: }

This + the five stars show how important this topic is! Right? :first:

Padma Priya was playing an Indian Muslim Malaysian in Pokkisham and so to give her character aunthenticity she was made to wear a hijab. I thought that touch added credibility and showed the directors sharp observation of people and their cultures. I've always found her pretty in a down to earth Tb sort of way :). Not glamourous maybe, but still girl-next-door type that I (as a viewer) can relate to. But take that Priyamani...i honestly dunno how she made it into cinema at all!! :D

Maybe I'm weird but I don't really go crazy for films and characters that I totally can't relate to and so the whole gamourous Shivaji the Boss/Ra One type of films to me are like ok not bad but doesn't leave a permanent impression on my mind/heart like say Raman thediya Seethai or say even Heroine.

Hoi Amala,

Mana ada dia Malaysian?

You see she was acting as an Indian muslim girl who married a Malaysian and settled down in Malaysia.

You are opposite of me when it comes to actors..I like pretty sexy heroines the 50kg Taj Mahal types!LOL

Padma Priya is over weight and not at all good looking.

Priyamani is sexy and sultry and carries herself well.

Yeah oops sorry I got mixed up. She was indeed playing an Indian muslim in Pokkisham.
But come on be fair shes not bad looking at all. And if Padma Priya is considered fat for you, Renu, I dread to think what you think of Hansika Motwani or Namitha hehe...oh yeah oops blue whales you said right ;-). I'm not one to post pics willy nilly but a point needs to be proved :D. I don't think she looks fat at all...maybe not anorexic, but surely not fat! Btw I took one of the safest pictures for the forum. There are others where shes got make up and looks glamourous enough. But even w/o make up shes not bad looking IMHO.

Dear Amala,

Ok let me be specific.

Normal BMI(Body Mass Index) can range from 18 to 25

Hansika is at the higher end of her BMI but still less than 25...abdomen is not bulging from the last movie I saw.

Namitha is Obese with increase Abdominal Fat.

Padma Priya is too broad on hips..not a toned abdomen and BMI will be more than 25 but not in obese range yet..so in normal terms Fat!

I love Trisha and Asin..they sooooooooooooooo cute and keep slim and nice.

BTW Amala in the pic she is not at all slim.

Dear Renukaji,

All these NI girls ( like HMotwani, Kajal, etc)when they act in other language movies do try and look very slim but when they come to tamil films they tend to put on extra weight, saying Tamil fans like their heroines " plump"( kozukku muzukku) like Kushboo. When they find their plumpness has gone overboard the rush for sliming tips. BTW Tamil fans have been accepting their Heroines irrespective of their size if only they can " act" ( eg, savithri, KRVijaya, Padmini). The logetivity depends on performence...

BTW i also like Sridevi..though her talents were not tapped in Hindi, still her performence in Mr.India is class. Minute change of expressions in her eys, graceful movements are her forte and none can match them. She deserved an award for her performence in Sadma & Moondram pirai, as her performence was bit better than Kamalhassan...
cheers

Dear sir,

I love Sri Devi...she is so cute even now and so slim also.
She has maintained herself so well...good role model for women to take care of ourselves so that we might still look beautiful and slim right up to old age.
Most Indian origin women tend to neglect themselves which is not good for self image and health.

BTW this songs background music sounds lots like Stevie Wonder's Part Time Lover Song.

Mumbai gave Sridevi fame and exposed her Thunder thighs thanks to films like Himmatwala and hid her talent which has again come to the fore in English Vinglish.
Sridevi has a variety of expressions which is there for all to see in the song posted by Renukaji.
Talking of Motis, I think of Sonakshi Sinha who looks on the chubby side. In one song, I was afraid she would fall down. I think it was a song from Joker.

I second you about Sridevi's immense talent not being tapped nor showcased in Bollywood. Despite her very brilliant resume and track record in Tamil movies and such, all she was mostly resigned to in the great Bolly cinema was being eye/arm candy and singing dancing. I think for me only Lamhe comes as close to showcasing her potential. To add insult to injury she was required to do a nose job because she wasn't pretty enough or whatever for the great wonderful Bolly audience. Well, thats what she wanted anyway, so hopefully shes happy. I really love her Tamil cinema work though. From Moondram pirai to Meendum Kokila, 16 vayathinile, Johnny etc etc.

I am going to watch Aiyya soon after much pestering from my friend who loves it. I still wonder, why on earth Bolly cinema always picks the Tamils particularly Tambrahms to make fun of all the time. I guess tambrahms are the patented clowns/jokers :). I'm getting sooo bored of it everytime. I wish Bolly would choose some other SI like Telugus, Mallus (aren't there a dime a dozen of them in Mumbai anyway?) Kannadigas etc. Why always Tamilians?! Else its Punjabis and Sardarjis especially. I didnt realise the Bengalis, Marathis, Oriyas, Biharis, Andhrites etc are soo dull that even Bolly doesn't choose them to pick on for a change :)

What?!! Padma priya is not slim? For me she seems just fine. Hansika seems like a gundu kathrikka really...dunno whats going on. I love Trisha and used to love Asin till she started getting into Bolly. I've seen her Hindi stuff and sadly she used to look healthy in Tamil films, but now in Bolly shes lost too much weight and her angular face looks longer and haggard. She has lost her beauty in my opinion. I guess even like Sridevi, Kollywood got the best out of them at their youth/prime eh? :)
