[h=3]Children aged 10 were guarding streets with huge machine guns, says Yemen returnee[/h] Thiruvananthapuram: Relief writ large on her face, a Keralite among the first batch of Indians who returned home after being evacuated from Yemen on Thursday said it was an unforgettable trauma with streets of the war-hit nation dotted with arms-wielding security personnel and civilians. "The roads and streets before our hospitals were packed with Yemen military personnel. Native men could also be seen holding armaments," 30-year old Manju, a lab technician with a private hospital in Aden, said.

A cancer will never qualify to be called as a gift! :nono:

[h=3]Cancer is an unhappy return gift[/h] It was a shock, to discover that one of our own, a non-smoker and a teetotaller, had developed cancer. Cancer, and what happens once you realise you or a loved one have it, is not what I am going to focus on here. The fact that cancer is growing at an alarming rate, though, is a cause of concern. The high level of toxicity in our bodies and minds is what is causing cancer to become a monster.

Anyting to make walking faster and easier is :welcome:!

[h=3]Engineers create boot-like device to make walking easier[/h] Engineers have come up with a motor-free device to make walking more efficient and easier — something scientists once thought couldn't be done. Looks kind of flashy," said Carnegie Mellon University engineering professor Steven Collins, lead author of a study published Wednesday in the journal Nature. With an obese nation, making exercise burn fewer calories may not seem like the best idea, but it's not as crazy as it sounds, Collins said.

How can a capital city be not polluted???

  • [h=3]Delhi is dangerously polluted? Everybody knows, nobody cares - Firstpost[/h] According to a 19th century experiment, when a frog is put in boiling water, it quickly jumps out to save its life. The toxic air around us is unbreathable; the polluted underground water is undrinkable; potable water is disappearing fast; food items are laced with fertilizers; chicken and other bird meat has high levels of antibiotics; vegetables have E-coli and other bacteria; milk has synthetic material and oxytocin; and the noise around us is of such high-decibel that it is freaking us out, frying our brain. For the past two days, the Indian Express has been writing about the alarming level of pollutants in the Delhi air, telling us about the impending death by breath. It says Delhi is the world’s most-polluted city, the respirable particulate matter in the air is 17 times the permissible level and the number of patients with asthma, wheezing and other chronic ailments has increased three-fold in seven years.

  • [h=3]Two New York City women accused of planning 'terrorist attack'[/h] By Ellen Wulfhorst and Nate Raymond NEW YORK (Reuters) - Two New York City women have been arrested and accused of planning to carry out a "terrorist attack" in the United States, according to a federal criminal complaint made public on Thursday. Noelle Velentzas, 28, and Asia Siddiqui, 31, plotted to hit police, government or military targets based on their "violent jihadist beliefs," according to the complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Brooklyn. It said Velentzas and Siddiqui were conspiring "to prepare an explosive device to be detonated in a terrorist attack in the United States." The complaint said Velentzas had praised al Qaeda's Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States and said she and Siddiqui were "citizens of the Islamic State." The women, former roommates in the city borough of Queens, had researched how to build an explosive device and had read textbooks on electricity and watched online videos about soldering, it said.

[h=3]Foreign investors cry foul over Indian tax surprise[/h] U.S. and European investor groups have called for the Indian government to urgently clarify its tax regime for foreigners, following surprise attempts by tax inspectors to claw back money they say is owed on years of previously untaxed gains. International funds and banks could face a bill of as much as $8 billion, said tax experts, just as many foreign investors are poised to pour money into India following the election of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has pledged to create a more business-friendly environment. “This development has caught everyone by surprise and is extremely worrying for foreign investors," said Patrick Pang, a managing director at the Asia Securities Industry & Financial Markets Association (ASIFMA) in Hong Kong.

There was a cocktail expert.

He could list all the drinks that have gone into the mixture.

He amazed people by his wonderful taste buds and sense of smell.

One day he was given a colorless odorless and tasteless liquid.

He took a sip, rolled his tongue and smelled the glass.

But this liquid was unknown to him and he admitted sheepishly,

"I don't know what this is but I can assure you it WILL NEVER SELL!!!

"Of course he was wrong. The colorless odorless tasteless liquid called

H2O sells all over the world now!!!

People ignore the health benefits of water. Maybe because it is available for a penny and maybe because the poor and the rich drink the same colourless, odourless liquid. It is an essential component of all body tissues.

[h=3]How 'free' mobile apps drain your resources[/h]New York, April 2 (IANS) There's no such thing as free -- especially when it comes to smartphone apps! A new study by a team, including an Indian-American engineer, reinforces this conventional wisdom. "Ads in 'free' apps drain your phone's battery faster, cause it to run slower, and use more data," said William Halfond, co-corresponding author of the study. The findings of the team will be presented at the International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE) in Italy in May. The researchers found that apps with ads use an average of 16 percent more energy.
