Think United Is Bad? These Airlines Are Ranked Lower and Have Their Own Passenger Horror Stories

One bloodied, broken nose that will require reconstructive surgery, as well as a concussion, two lost teeth and a viral video later, United Airlines has become known as one of the world's worst airlines after passenger David Dao was forcibly removed last week from an overbooked flight. Such stories haven't earned United a lot of fans on social media sites, where the airline has become the subject of disdain and ridicule in recent days. Roughly 130 passengers on the flight scheduled from Mumbai to Bhopal in India forced the plane to stop just before take-off because the AC system was busted, and some people were complaining about “suffocation,” according to India Today. Jet Airways, based in Mumbai, is the second largest airline in India.

H-1B visa applications decline for first time in 5 years

Fewer people want to come to America to work. On Monday, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced that the number of H-1B applications fell below 200,000 this year for the first time since 2014. Just 85,000 H-1B visas (20,000 of which are reserved for master's degree holders) are granted annually, but the past few years have seen swelling demand. Applications for the visa opened on April 3, and it was the fifth consecutive year that the cap was met within five days. During that period, 199,000 applications were received. In 2016, USCIS received 236,000 applications -- and the number had been climbing since at least 2013. The H-1B is the most common visa for high-skilled foreign workers,

Scientists find giant black 'shipworm' in Philippines and it'll haunt your sleep

Scientists in the Philippines have discovered the first living giant shipworm. The living specimen’s discovery was detailed in US science journal the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS). The shipworm is part of the bivalve family, in the same group as mussels and clams, and spends its life encased in a hard shell, feeding on mud.

Here is one more insect living off the sticky and smelly oil! :yuck:

73. A Larva in oil!

The larva of the petroleum fly Psilopa petrolei lives in the pools of crude oil –

which seeps from the ground in oil fields.

The larva’s skin and the intestinal lining are specially adapted to withstand the oil –

which permanently fills its gut and surrounds it body!

These would kill most other forms of life.

It feeds on the other insects which get trapped in the oil.

The larva which lives submerged in the oil rises to the surface when

it is fully gown in order to undergo metamorphosis and become an adult fly.

When the transformation is complete, the fly takes off in the air but

it lays its eggs in the pool of oil to start the cycle again.

[h=3]Archaeologists discover trove of ancient Egyptian artifacts[/h]CAIRO - Archaeologists in Egypt have discovered more than 1,000 statues and 10 sarcophagi in an ancient noble’s tomb on the west bank of the Nile River in Luxor. The Antiquities Ministry said Tuesday that the tomb was built for a judge during the New Kingdom period, from roughly 1,500 to 1,000 B.C. The tomb comprised an open courtyard leading to two halls, one containing four ancient coffins and the other including a chamber that houses six. The head of archaeological mission, Mostafa el-Waziri, says another chamber was found containing the statues, which depict kings from different dynasties. He said archaeologists expect to find even more statues as the dig continues.

Australia considers shark cull after teenage girl is killed in deadly attack

The death of a teenage girl at the jaws of a man-eating shark has prompted Australia to consider a cull to prevent further attacks. Laeticia Brouwer, 17, was out surfing off the coast of the town of Esperance, Western Australia (WA), when she was attacked and killed by what is believed to be a great white shark. Federal Environment Minister Josh Frydenberg said he would now consider new proposals following the teenager’s death, the third deadly attack in WA over the past year.

Microsoft is trying to make passwords obsolete, and it might succeed

Passwords are annoying, clumsy, easily beaten (for the most part), and an absolutely antiquated form of security. They also happen to be the primary way we secure our most precious information today. Microsoft wants to change that with a new app feature that basically removes passwords from the equation entirely. It's part of the Microsoft Authenticator app , and it just might work. The app's new ability essentially enables the second layer of a two-factor authentication system, but instead of signing in with a password and then confirming your identity via an app prompt on your smartphone, the password isn't used at all. Once you have Microsoft Authenticator installed, you can opt to use it as the primary sign-in option for any of the supported logins. Then, when you need to sign in, an app alert will pop up on your phone asking you to approve the action. Tap to approve and that's it, you're in, password free. The new feature is clearly a response to the newly streamlined Google Authenticator app which makes signing in easier thanks to a tap-to-verify system. However, by eliminating passwords entirely, Microsoft is actually making the barrier to logins even shorter, for better or worse. The "worse" part, of course, is that by taking passwords out of the picture, logins can be completely simply by possessing a person's smartphone, rather than a combination of the password and secondary authentication system. Using the new Authenticator feature should still be significantly more secure than using a password alone, so it's still a net improvement over what most users currently rely on.

Giant icebergs are a big tourist draw in Newfoundland, and a warning sign

A record warm Arctic winter has spawned a tourism boom in a tiny Canadian town. Sightseers and selfie-snappers are flocking to Ferryland, Newfoundland, to watch enormous icebergs drift off the Southern Shore. The town of 500 residents has seen bumper-to-bumper traffic in recent days. Its two lone restaurants would theoretically be packed - that is, if they opened before late May, when the tourism season normally begins, CBC reported. Nearly 650 icebergs have drifted into the North Atlantic as of this week, according to the U.S. Coast Guard's International Ice Patrol. That's about triple the number of icebergs this region sees during this period. SEE ALSO: A 'conveyor belt' of plastic is polluting
