    "We Disobey": Women's March Protestors Sit-In To Protest Family Detention In The US

    Women’s March activists and their partners have decided it’s time for some “good trouble.” An estimated 1,000 women have gathered in D.C. today for an act of “mass civil disobedience” at the seat of power to protest protest the federal government’s policy of family detention for asylum seekers and immigrants. The protestors, who dressed in white, marched from D.C.’s Freedom Plaza this morning to the Department of Justice where they held a sit-in, are calling for immediate reunification of families who were separated at the border under President Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy, as well as the end to all family detention and the criminalisation of undocumented immigrants and asylum seekers.

    You might have heard of this as the ‘Noida double murder case’ which took place over ten years ago in May 2008, referring to the unsolved murders of a 13-year-old girl and a 45-year-old live-in domestic worker employed by her family. Amar Singh Chamkila was a popular Punjabi singer and musician, and he and his wife/singing partner, Amarjot, were killed along with two members of their band in the year 1988. Some conspiracy theories consider the Punjab police as being behind the murder for considering their lyrics vulgar, other Punjabi singers as their popularity was threatened, or an honor killing by Amarjot’s family.

    Air India doubles gratuity ceiling amount of employees

    Mumbai/New Delhi [India], July 1 (ANI): Cash-strapped national carrier Air India has doubled the gratuity ceiling amount of its employees from Rs.10 lakhs to Rs. 20 lakhs. An Air India letter dated on June 26, said, "It has been decided to implement the enhancement of gratuity payable to employees under Payment of Gratuity Amendment Act 2018, revising the existing ceiling limit from Rupees 10 lakhs to 20 lakhs effective 29th March 2018 for employees ceasing to be in the service of the company as approved by the board of Air India Limited in its 86th meeting held on 21st May 2018." Around 6500 employees of the airline stand to benefit from this new announcement.

    Gangster Redoine Faïd escapes French jail by helicopter with help of three armed accomplices

    A jailed gangster in France has escaped prison after being picked up by helicopter. Three armed accomplices extracted Redoine Faid from the Reau prison, near Paris, late on Sunday morning, Le Parisien reported. The 46-year-old was in the visiting room when the three men burst in and got him onto the helicopter, which had landed in one of the prison courtyards.
