[h=3]Jennifer Lawrence ranked highest-paid actress but men still prevail[/h] NEW YORK (Reuters) - "Hunger Games" star Jennifer Lawrence on Thursday topped a Forbes list of the world's highest-paid actresses, earning some $52 million in the past year but still far behind the best paid actor. Lawrence, who won an Oscar in 2013 for her role in "Silver Linings Playbook," also had income for being the face of French fashion and beauty company Dior but her combined earnings came nowhere close to the estimated $80 million of "Iron Man" star Robert Downey Jr. He topped Forbes list earlier in August of the highest paid male actors. Lawrence, 25, made headlines last year when hacked Sony Pictures emails revealed she earned a lower cut of profits from the movie "American Hustle" than her male counterparts.

[h=3]The 'Jolie effect' on cancer[/h] In 2013, Angelina Jolie had a double mastectomy (surgical removal of breasts). A year later, she made the tough decision to have both her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed to mitigate her high genetic risk of cancer. There may be a huge debate surrounding her decision, but the fact is that it has led to a huge number of women talking about it and undergoing diagnostic tests to detect cancer at an early stage. [h=3]Giant asteroid will not destroy Earth, confirms NASA[/h] A giant asteroid is not hurtling towards Earth about to wipe out much of the Americas, NASA has felt compelled to explain following a swirl of online rumors. “There is no scientific basis — not one shred of evidence– that an asteroid or any other celestial object will impact Earth on those dates,” said the manager of the Near-Earth Object office at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Paul Chodas. The lab explained that all known hazardous asteroids have a less than .01 percent chance of impacting Earth in the next 100 years. NASA pointed out that Doomsday theorists have made similar predictions in the past, including the Mayan calendar claim in 2012, all of which were not backed up by science and turned out to be false.
