[h=3]Police hunt for owner of explosives after blast kills 88 in Madhya Pradesh[/h]Police said on Sunday they were hunting for the owner of illegally stored explosives which accidentally detonated in the centre of a crowded town in Madhya Pradesh, killing at least 88 people. Rajendra Kaswa has been charged with illegally storing gelatin sticks and urea, a common fertiliser, next to a restaurant and busy junction in the town of Petlawad, a senior police official and the divisional commissioner Sanjay Dubey said. "He is on the run. Police initially thought the accident was triggered by an exploding gas cylinder in the restaurant, which then detonated the explosives next door, but officers now believe it originated in the warehouse next to the restaurant where Kaswa stored explosive materials and chemicals.

If women are protected there won't be any need for protecting the witnesses! :(

[h=3]Twin murders of rape victims spark calls for witness protection in India[/h]By Nita Bhalla NEW DELHI (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - The murders of two alleged rape victims in separate incidents in Uttar Pradesh over the weekend have sparked demands by women's rights activists for the government to put in place a formal witness protection programme. "There must be a formalised protection system in place for victims and witnesses in cases where they are under threat and facing intimidation or worse," said Karuna Nundy, a supreme court lawyer and women's rights activist. "We also need more and better trained judges and police to deal with these crimes effectively." Rape victims in India endure an archaic, poorly funded, under-resourced and insensitive criminal justice system, say campaigners.

PM’s birthday celebrations: After stage collapses, bid to create Guinness record called off

A bid to create the Guinness World Record with the highest number of “selfies with daughters” on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, organised by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in Ahmedabad Thursday, ended on an ugly note when the organisers failed to manage the crowd and had to call off the event midway after the stage collapsed. Anticipating lack of adequate arrangements, the organisers abruptly announced its conclusion after about 10,000-odd selfies were clicked. This enraged the parents, who had reached the venue — Chandra Prasad Desai Hall at Bapunagar — with their daughters in large numbers.

[h=3]Conduct all official work in Hindi, says Delhi Police[/h] Union home Minister Rajnath Singh may have advised government employees to sign their names in Hindi, but Delhi Police chief B S Bassi has gone one step further — he has directed his force to conduct all their official work in the national language. In his order, Bassi has asked all police officers to ensure that apart from celebrating Hindi Diwas on September 14, the force should complete all paperwork for the rest of the year in Hindi. While Hindi is mandatory in the Uttar Pradesh police force, there is no such directive in Haryana.

Times Campaign: Ban The Bans: Is India Becoming An Intolerant Nation? - The Times of India

First they stopped you from watching a documentary on Delhi rape case on TV, then they barred you from eating beef in Maharashtra. India's list of banned items keeps getting longer and some are so ridiculous that you will think the country has turned the clock back by a century or more.
