[h=3]Reverse of onions: Potato farmers at receiving end, as prices crash[/h]While onion is a lot in the news now — thanks to retail prices hovering at Rs 60/kg — the other key staple vegetable, potato, has disappeared from public imagination. This, even as a production glut has forced farmers of this starchy tuber to dump their crop on roadsides or nullahs. Last month, farmers in Jalandhar even distributed some 500 quintals of potato free to consumers to highlight their plight.

When parents start killing their own children over love matter
which they do not approve of, the stories must be very very similar! :(

[h=3]Parallels between Aarushi, Sheena cases: From 'Talvar' maker's eye[/h]New Delhi, Sep 10 (IANS) With "Talvar", filmmaker Meghna Gulzar has attempted a retelling of three investigation theories behind the Aarushi Talwar-Hemraj murder case. "The most glaring parallel right now is the unabated public interest, and therefore, the media interest," Meghna told IANS while drawing comparisons between the two cases - one in which 14-year-old Aarushi and her family's 45-year-old servant Hemraj Banjade, were killed, and her parents convicted in November 2013 to life imprisonment, and another, in which Indrani Mukherjea allegedly strangled her daughter Sheena to death. For me, this is what sticks out more than anything else when such a story breaks," added the daughter of celebrated writer Gulzar and veteran actress Raakhee.

[h=3]Bank of England keeps rates steady, unfazed by overseas risks[/h]The Bank of England said on Thursday its rate-setters felt the threat to the world economy from China's stock-market slump did not signal a slowdown for Britain, as they left interest rates at a record-low of 0.5 percent. Policymakers voted 8-1 to keep rates unchanged, as expected, and they broadly agreed with Governor Mark Carney, who has said that, so far, China's slowdown is unlikely to derail the plan to gradually raise British rates. Sterling jumped to a two-week high against the dollar after the rate decision and the publication of the minutes of the Monetary Policy Committee meeting, which ended on Wednesday.
