[h=3]Kashinath Singh, poet of Varanasi, returns his award[/h] Protesting against remarks made by union ministers on those who had returned their Sahitya Akademi awards over the last two weeks, noted Hindi writer Kashinath Singh said on Friday that he was giving up the award that he had received from the organisation in 2011 for his novel Rehan Par Raghu. More than 20 writers — most recently Rajasthani poet Nand Bhardwaj and English poet Keki N Daruwalla — have returned their Akademi awards. Another Hindi poet Manmohan, meanwhile, returned the Haryana Sahitya Akademi award along with the prize money of Rs 1 lakh.

[h=3]Fifteen killed in wedding party bus crash in India[/h] At least 15 members of a wedding party, including three children, were killed when a vehicle they were travelling in collided with a bus in southern India, injuring 25 people, police said Saturday. The accident occurred early Saturday when a truck carrying at least 40 wedding party members hit a passenger bus coming from the opposite direction in Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh state. "So far 15 people have been confirmed dead and around 25 are injured," Prakasam police chief Srikanth, who goes by one name, told AFP over the phone.

The impact of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) struck last week between 12 nations, which include the United States but not India, is still being studied by Indian drug makers. "The generics decline will be discernible from the end of 2017," said D.G. Shah, secretary general of an industry group representing some of India's top drug makers, including Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd and Dr Reddy's Laboratories Ltd .

Several Writers, including GN Devy and Aman Sethi, returned their awards earlier after noted Kannada author Aravind Malagatti resigned from the Sahitya Akademi's Common Council.
