[h=1]Wee Willie Winkie.[/h]

Wee Willie Winkie runs through the town,
Upstairs and downstairs in his nightgown,
Tapping at the window and crying through the lock,
Are all the children in their beds, it’s past eight o’clock?

Wee Willie Winkie is the children’ version of a town crier!

Before the various powerful media like newspapers, Television and Internet came into existence, Town Criers were solely responsible for passing on information and spreading the latest news to the public.

Wee Willie Winkie is the children’s town crier. He wants to make sure that all the children are in their beds since it was past 8 O’ clock!

This teaches the children the healthy habit of going to bed early so that the next day they can get up early and be fresh to meet the tasks lying ahead!

Author of this rhyme is William Miller ( 1810 -1872) and this was published in 1841.

Money can buy comforts utmost.

But under all those comforts there will be concealed thorns
causing irritation similar to the marbles hidden under the
umpteen quilts of a fairy tale princess.

Money can and DOES bring (buy?) pankkaara vyaadigal
(rich man's diseases) in dozens!!!

A honest and genuine doubt!
How can people who copy paste one foot long opening post

go around valiantly bullying people
to read what they dare to call as their posts!

Borrowed sounds better! :)

Do not worry dearie!!! :nono:

Repack it
Rename it
Resell it.

It is as simple as that!

In Tamil it is called as

அரைத்த அரைத்த மாவையே அரைப்பது

புதிய மொந்தையில் பழைய கள்ளு

Obviously such people have ALWAYS existed.

The introduction given by me to my blog of parallel proverbs in English and Tamil called East Meets West.

Human beings may look different! The color of their skin may differ.
The color of their eyes and hair may vary. Their features may be
as varied as is theoretically possible. They may dress differently
and speak different languages.

But despite all these differences, the human mind works exactly
in the same way - whatever be the nationality, language, customs,
traditions, religion and beliefs of the individuals.

So it is small wonder that we find the same ideas being conveyed
through the proverbs in different languages.

Here is a comparative study of the parallel proverbs in Tamil and English.

Some caterpillars at least have a redeeming feature - they soon evolve into a beautiful butterfly.

கனவுகள் மட்டுமே மெய்ப்பட வேண்டுமா?

ஐயங்களும் மெய்ப்படலாம் ஐயம் ஒன்றின்றி!

I have a feeling that it is easier for a person who is on the wrong side of the moral scale to achieve liberation than a person who is a householder.

I know this thought of mine could be some nonsense but to a certain extent a lot of extremes cases of the moral scale embraced the word of God fast when compared with householders who usually drown in the sea of desire.

Valmiki was highway robber who just dropped everything when he heard the words of Narada.

Mary Magdalene who was supposed to have been a CSW(commercial sex worker) became the foremost disciple of Jesus who stood by Him at every occasion.

I have seen even former drug addicts who just give up everything in life and become pastors, preachers etc.

I have a feeling to a certain extent those who are on the wrong side of the moral scale are able to detach themselves from their actions much better than most people.

Ok take Valmiki for example..he used to rob and kill for a living.
He surely had to detach himself from his actions to keep away the remorseful feeling.

Just like how as a doctor we need to keep our emotions under check and we can not be crying at the sight of disease or death.

So in case of Valmiki becos of his ability to compartmentalize his feelings and be detached he was able to attain liberation at a faster pace.

Even in a case of a commercial sex worker..she practices some amount of detachment..as to not too expect any Love or attachment from a client.
A wife on the other hand would expect love and attachment from a husband and this makes her more entangled in the mundane world.

A householder is actually in a deep sea of desires..cos even after one gets married and has kids..some will still desire grandkids and the desire list can go on and on and the quest for money is more in a householder.

So the key word is "compartmentalizing" our feelings... those who are able to do this I feel are able to accept the word of God at a faster rate.

I am not saying that all of us should try to be at the wrong end of the moral scale but may be that's why it is thought that every saint has a past and every sinner has a future.

Dear Renu,

Coming to think of it, many great baktaas like Arunagiri naathar do not have

a past they can boast about. But as you have rightly said, such people find it

easier to get completely detached in a moment's notice.

Can you see and say WHY???

They are not attached to anything or anyone in particular like the

householders are. So when there is no attachment what is the difficulty in

getting detached??? :bolt:

So cutting the Gordian knot must be easier. :hand:

we are attached to our dear ones, our near ones, our homes, our belongings

and our pets. So giving up everything in one go will surely be difficult.

My father always used to quote a story in which a vimaanam came down

from the heaven to take the bhakta and his wife to swarga. The bhakta who

was already a jeevan mukta just got into the vimaanam. His wife wanted to

feed the cow at the backyard one last time before she left on an one way trip.

But the vimaanam did not wait for her. So she was stuck up with her pet cow

for the rest of her life - having missed the opportunity of living with her

husband in heaven.

The mother-children show-down is on the increase. :hail: :whip:

Thanks to the part time school hours.

During the holiday.... I shudder to think!!!

What with the power cuts, water scarcity and

the general commotion prevailing in the neighborhood.

I wish we could visit USA every Summer - :plane:

both to escape these miseries and to be with our loved ones. :grouphug:

I want to write about a funny episode in my life, soon after landing in Sing. Chennai!

We went to visit Ram's relative and were shocked to see the lady of the house standing outside the house with her two young

children, with a huge box in her hand, ready to move! We did not get in but asked her and the kids to get in our car and brought

them to our sweet home. I prepared dinner and made the kids sleep comfortably in the guest room. I wished to give company to

her and so we put two beds on the floor of the hall to sleep that night. She described till mid night how she is ill treated in the

house! Finally, she told me to ask Ram to take her to an Ashram where she can stay and educate the children! I said, 'Please

go to sleep! Let us continue to talk tomorrow!' She said that she will NEVER EVER enter her house again! Within ten minutes,

I was half asleep and she woke me up and said, 'Raji kannu! Naan thayirai oRakuththa maRandhuttEnE! I laughed out loud and

said, 'Why do you worry dear, when you are NOT going to enter that house again?'

P.S: We consoled her the next morning and dropped her back. Now a happy grand ma of lovely teen aged children!! :grouphug:
