Thousands of people go to Pazhani on a paada yaatraa for the Thaippoosam day.

Anna daanam is done along the routes for threee days - the preceding and succeeding days and theThaippoosam day.

We have been donating money since 45 years and I have been collecting donations since 40 years.

Once upon a time when I could climb staircases and walk long distsnces, I would finish off the 4 receipt books with 25 leaves in each in a jiffy.

Now everything is becoming harder. My ability to climb/ walk and the increasing number of people - who would rather eat in the anna daanam than donate towards it.

Well all these are beside the point. What I want to share comes in the next post!

I had distributed the pamphlets on new year day in the temple.
But the response was very poor.

I made an announcement in the temple on the Pongal day.
Guess who made a decent donation of 101 Rs today???
The last person I had expected to donate.

It is a domestic maid named SELVI.

I bet the amount meant a lot for a servant maid
but she was happy to donate and felt sad that
she was not aware of the fact that I used to
collect money for Pazhani Thaippoosam.

I felt really whacked since my friends and neihbors elude me like electris eels, promising to donate later, or give some far fetched reasons to part with as little as Rs 50 per annum.

Here was a maid - who had more resons for not donationg than for donating - giving more than her share !!!

Her name is SELVI and she may not be rich except in her name.

Names fasinate me because they
either define us or defy us. :thumb:
